Khal Drogo was a wealthy and powerful Dothraki chieftain or khal, the son of Bharbo. Before he was thirty, Drogo led the largest khalasar in the Dothraki Sea, with forty thousand warriors, and had never been defeated. He owned a palace at Vaes Dothrak, a nine-towered mansion in Pentos, given as a gift to appease him and avert the wrath of his khalasar. He married Daenerys Targaryen, promising to invade Westeros in her name, but died before the invasion could begin.
History
Drogo is a king and warrior of the Dothraki, the famous nomadic horselords of the eastern continent beyond the Narrow Sea. The Dothraki are fierce warriors, skilled in battle, ruthless in combat, and known for their savagery to non-Dothraki. Among their own people, they have a code of honor, albeit a harsh and unforgiving one. Drogo was too young to have a khalasar of his own, especially one so large. He is a legendary warrior and has never been defeated in battle. Drogo desired the most beautiful and exotic woman in the world as his khaleesi, or wife, and enlisted Magister Illyrio Mopatis of Pentos to help him find such a woman. He is protected by blood-servants, including Qotho. The generals in his khalasar include Pono and Jhaqo, men who guard him, follow him into battle, and when Drogo dies, it is their duty and honor to follow him and die as well, even to continue serving him. Illyrio and Prince Viserys Targaryen arrange for their sister Daenerys to marry Khal Drogo in exchange for Drogo providing Dothraki troops for Viserys to take the Iron Throne in Westeros. Drogo agrees, but does not set a deadline. Viserys notes the length of Drogo's braid: Dothraki have to cut their hair when they are defeated, but Drogo's long hair suggests that he has never been defeated in battle. Viserys states that Drogo is a "savage", but also "one of the finest killers alive". Drogo marries Daenerys outside the Free City of Pentos, but is unable to communicate with his new wife due to their lack of a common language. Drogo only seems to understand the word "No", which he repeats frequently. Ser Jorah Mormont, a knight from Westeros, helps him with the translation. As a wedding gift, Illyrio gives Daenerys three dragon eggs that have turned to stone due to the passage of time. Drogo gives Daenerys a beautiful white horse.
story 2
When Daenerys wishes to thank Drogo for his gift, Ser Jorah points out that there is no word for "thank you" in her new husband's language, a reminder of how unpleasant the Dothraki are. Drogo is determined to consummate their marriage immediately, which Daenerys finds uncomfortable and frightened by. Trying to make her time with Drogo more bearable, Daenerys begins learning the Dothraki language from her handmaiden Irri and seeks advice from another handmaiden, Doreah, on how to best please him in bed, while establishing her own power over him using her sexuality, which culminates in a closer relationship. Combining these skills, Drogo comes to respect her as an equal. After two months, Daenerys and Drogo are happier together. Drogo expresses satisfaction and joy at the news that Daenerys is expecting a child, and that she thinks it will be a boy. In King's Landing, King Robert Baratheon's spymaster Varys is working with Illyrio to plan the Dothraki invasion of the Seven Kingdoms. However, Drogo waits until his son is born before planning the attack. Varys thinks that the situation in Westeros will unravel much more quickly than they expected and urges Illyrio to speed up Drogo's timetable. In Vaes Dothrak, the holy city of the Dothraki, Drogo is pleased when the Dosh khaleen prophesies that his son will be the "Stallion Who Mounts the World", a skilled khal of khals who will command the greatest khalasar ever seen and lead the Dothraki to rule all the lands of the world. He also approves of Dany's naming him Rhaego in honor of his dead brother, Rhaegar, a great warrior defeated in battle by the "usurper" Robert Baratheon. However, a drunken and belligerent Viserys petulantly accuses Drogo of taking Daenerys but never providing the army he promised. Believing that he will not be harmed because spilling blood in the holy city is forbidden, V
death of Viserys
Believing that he will not be harmed because spilling blood in the holy city is forbidden, Viserys draws his sword and threatens him, saying that unless it is immediately given to his army, he will take his sister. An enraged Drogo, but careful to control his emotions for the sake of Daenerys and his children, agrees to give Viserys "a crown of gold that men will tremble to behold". Not understanding the language, Viserys believes he is finally getting what he wants and lets his guard down, allowing two of Drogo's bodyguards to disarm him. Drogo melts a gold belt in a pot, then "crowns" Viserys with the molten gold, killing him.
Daenerys urges Drogo to continue the invasion, but with Viserys's obligation, Drogo is reluctant to attempt the crossing of the Narrow Sea due to his people's fear of the "poison water" (the sea, which the Dothraki fear, as they distrust any liquid a horse will not drink) and "wooden horses" (ships). Ser Jorah later saves Daenerys from an assassin sent by King Robert. Learning of the attempt, Drogo rewards Jorah with any horse he desires from Drogo's own herd. Drogo swears a blood oath that he will punish Westeros for its attempt to kill his wife and son, saying that he will lead the Dothraki beyond the poison water to invade the Seven Kingdoms and seat his son in the "Iron Chair" of Westeros. Drogo leads his men to attack and plunder a village of peaceful Lhazareen sheepherders. He plans to take slaves to trade for a fleet to invade Westeros. Daenerys protests when the Dothraki begin raping the village women, and her entourage stops the practice. Mago is enraged at Daenerys's presumption to give him orders and complains to Drogo.
Drogo agrees that this is customary among the Dothraki, but out of admiration for Daenerys's spirit, agrees to let her keep the slaves for herself. Mago accuses Drogo of being at the whim of the "foreign whore", holding his arakh to Drogo's chest. Enraged, Drogo presses the blade into his own flesh to show his contempt for Mago's defiance, causing a small flesh wound, before fighting Mago in single combat, dropping his arakh and daggers to the ground to show his disdain for Mago's skills. He kills Mago with the reverse edge of his own weapon and rips his tongue out through his throat. At Dany's plea, he allows one of his new slaves, Mirri Maz Duur, a god-lady and maegi to treat his injury - ignoring warnings from his Qotho blood. The wound is poisoning the khal and Drogo eventually falls from his horse, unable to walk, a great shame within Dothraki culture as "a Khal who cannot ride a horse cannot lead." Duur tells Daenerys that he will soon die. Daenerys demands that she use magic to save Drogo and Duur agrees, but the Dothraki are agitated by this display of "witchcraft". The khalasar splits up. Qotho intervenes to prevent the ritual and is killed by Ser Jorah Mormont. Daenerys goes into labor after being pushed to the ground by Qotho. The child is still born but is deformed, with scaled, leathery dragon-like skin, wings, and a stomach full of graveworms. Drogo survives but is left in a vegetative state. Duur admits that she did this deliberately in revenge for the sacking of her village. The ritual that saved Drogo drew its power not only from the death of Drogo's favored stallion, but from the death of Daenerys's son, causing his death and monstrous appearance.
Personality
In battle, Drogo is known for his savagery, brutality, and lack of remorse or regret for his opponents. The fearsome khal was never defeated in combat, and so his braid hung down below his waist. In fact, Drogo was ruthless in battle and highly skilled, capable of killing an armed man in seconds, with his bare hands. Initially, he had no problem with rape, slavery, or murder, but every action he takes is because of his devotion to the Dothraki and reclaiming what is his. He is fearless to the point of recklessness - when Mago holds an arakh to his chest, he does not react, only approaching his opponent, deepening the wound, showing his courage and contempt for his opponent, before openly disarming himself and overtaking the Dothraki.
In the Books
The sagacious Illyrio Mopatis, serving as patron of the exiled Viserys Targaryen and his sister, Daenerys, arranged a marriage between the princess and Khal Drogo during one of the Khal's visits to Pentos. In exchange for his bride, Drogo was supposed to provide ten thousand Dothraki warriors to Viserys so that he could retake the Iron Throne. The wedding followed typical Dothraki customs, with Drogo's entire khalasar in an open field outside of Pentos. It was a day of celebration punctuated by several deadly fights and couples copulating in the open air. According to tradition, the blood companions offered weapons to Daenerys - a whip, an arakh and a dragon bone bow - who, following custom, gave them to her husband. Drogo, in turn, presented her with a magnificent silver mare. At the end of the party, Drogo took her to consummate the marriage. Daenerys, a thirteen-year-old girl who had been abused by her brother most of her life, was terrified of her new husband and expected to be raped, but Drogo proved to be a surprisingly caring lover. Although he and Dany didn't know any common language, he knew the word "no", which helped him understand Daenerys' wishes. After a lot of caressing, they had their first time. So when she learned the arts of love from Doreah, their marriage became happier and happier.
At the end of the feast, Drogo took her to consummate the marriage. Daenerys, a thirteen-year-old girl who had been abused by her brother for most of her life, was terrified of her new husband and expected to be raped, but Drogo proved to be a surprisingly attentive lover. Although he and Dany spoke no common language, he knew the word "no", which helped him understand Daenerys's desires. After much caressing, they had their first time. Later, as she learned the arts of love from Doreah, their marriage became increasingly happy. As a khaleesi, Daenerys was kept away from her brother, which helped her grow from the shy and passive girl she had always been and into a confident and leadership-oriented woman. As she learned to speak the Dothraki language, Drogo also tried to learn a few words of the Common Tongue. According to her, he was quick to learn something when he was willing, although his words had a strong savage accent. He affectionately called Dany "the moon of my life", to which she responded by calling him "my sun and stars". He treated her with respect and valued her opinions, although he did not understand her objections to some Dothraki customs.
In Vaes Dothrak, the women of the dosh khaleen prophesied that the son Dany was expecting from Drogo would be the Stallion Who Mounts the World, a Dothraki leader who would unite all his people into a single khalasar. Despite Daenerys's pleas, Drogo refused to go through with the invasion of Westeros, a land he did not know and which lay across the ocean and was feared by the Dothraki. He changed his mind after a hired assassin attempted to kill Daenerys in order to curry favor with King Robert Baratheon. Enraged, he vowed to invade the Seven Kingdoms and conquer them in the name of his wife and unborn child, swearing an oath on the name of his ancestors. In order to obtain the gold that would finance the invasion, Drogo attacked some cities in Lhazar with the intention of obtaining slaves. In one of the cities, he faced and defeated his rival, Khal Ogo, and also his son, Khal Fogo. Although victorious,
