The neighborhood

The Chavo del 8 neighborhood is a group of humble houses organized around a central courtyard. This courtyard is the heart of the place, where neighbors live, play and discuss. Around it there are several numbered doors, such as 14 (home of Doña Florinda and Quico), 21 (where Don Ramón and La Chilindrina live) and 72 (Mr. Barriga). In the center of the courtyard stands Chavo's barrel, which he uses as a shelter. There are also flower pots and some benches that decorate the space, reflecting its simple and somewhat worn atmosphere. A hallway connects to a second, less crowded courtyard, and a staircase leads to other upper areas, suggesting that the neighborhood is larger than it seems. It is a simple but lively place, where the characters face their everyday problems with humor and tenderness. A passageway leads to a second courtyard, less frequented but equally important. This space usually appears at specific times and has more dwellings, although its occupants are not part of the main cast. In addition, a prominent staircase connects the main courtyard with upper areas, suggesting that the neighborhood has several levels.
