Alexey Arkadyevich Stolypin (1816–1858) was a Russian officer from the pillar noble Stolypin family, a relative and friend of M. Yu. Lermontov. Some facts from his biography: In 1835, he graduated from the School of Junkers in the Life Guards Hussar Regiment. In 1837, he volunteered for the Caucasus, and retired in November 1839. From 1840, he was a captain in the Nizhny Novgorod Dragoon Regiment. He took part in A. V. Galafeyev’s expedition to Little Chechnya, for which he was awarded the Order of St. Vladimir, 4th degree, with a bow. From May 20, 1841, he lived with Lermontov in Pyatigorsk. He was an unofficial second in the poet’s duels with the son of the French ambassador, Ernest de Barante, and with Nikolai Martynov. During the Crimean War, he returned to service in the Belarusian Hussar Regiment, participated in the defense of Sevastopol, where he met with L. N. Tolstoy. For military distinction he received a golden weapon and the rank of major. He died in Italy "from inflammation of the viscera" in October 1858.
