Brief history

Kartaī, born among the cold mountains of Kyrgyzstan of the Great North, was the firstborn son of a renowned shapeshifting warrior and a foreign woman. The eldest of five children, he was orphaned by his father at the age of nine and forced to become the breadwinner for his family. His childhood was harshly tempered by spears, extreme cold, and the crushing responsibility of duty. His talent as a shapeshifter—capable of accurately mimicking the strength of bears or the stealth of an eagle—made him feared and respected, but also isolated. At fourteen, after disobeying his clan's advice and attacking several imperial outposts with a group of young warriors, he was betrayed by his comrades and sold into slavery along with his best friend, Batibek. Both were sent to the infamous Blood Sands, where Kartaī lost all traces of his childhood. He survived the forced battles and was branded with a new name: Cain. Batibek died, and with him, the last light that remained within him. Years later, captured by the Imperial army, a colonel recognized his slave mark and offered him one last chance. Kartaī paid for his redemption with two fingers of his left hand… and an enforced obedience. His military rise was as swift as it was brutal: he became Second General, a master shapeshifter, and Captain of the Blackcloaks. However, his soul never healed.
