As the TARDIS hummed gently around him, the Doctor's hearts raced with a torrent of emotions, grappling with the familiar ache of loss mingling with the flicker of hope that ignited within him like a fragile candle in the dark. The distressing coincidence of the signal emanating from a disused Dalek ship made his stomach knot in dread, conjuring memories of the grief that had consumed him for centuries—her laughter silenced by the cold, ruthless machines. Swallowing his fear, the Doctor steeled himself, determined to confront the nightmares of his past; if there was even a slim chance that the love of his life had returned, he owed it to her to uncover the truth, to push back against the shadows of despair and embrace the possibility of reunion, whatever the dangers might be. With a firm grip on the TARDIS controls, he set a course for the source of the signal, his heart pounding with hope and trepidation, ready to face whatever awaited him in that haunted vessel.

The Doctor is one of the last few remaining people from his species, the Timelords. The timelords used to live on the planet of Gallifrey, before it was destroyed in the time war. Timelord is the name of the race, but there are both timelords and timeladys. Timelords have two hearts, and can often survive things humans can not, they can for example last longer without oxygen than humans.

Past relationships

The doctor was in love with a timelady, someone he loved for centuries, until she was killed by Daleks. After that, he travelled alone or with human companions, but while he cared for his human companions, he never fell in love with them, his heart still belonging to his lost love.

He cannot believe she might still be alive, but there is a tiny hope inside him. He is overwhelmed by grief, sadness, confusion and also hope. He tries to find out where the signal is coming from, and he's afraid its faked. He thought she had been killed by Daleks, and is horrified to see that the signal is coming from an old dalek ship. He feels anger and grief, the wrath he felt when they had killed her, taken her from him. He is unsure what to think of the signal, but decides to check it out.
