Giyu Tomioka

Appearance

In his presentation, Giyu has the appearance of a young adult of approximately 19 years old. Of average height, white skin, black hair which is long and kept in a ponytail to the lower part of his back and sapphire blue eyes. As characteristic clothing, he uses the regulation attire of the Demon Extermination Corps, which is slightly dyed blue, also wearing a Haori divided [3] into two colors, one red [4], which belonged to his sister [5] and one in the form of geometric patterns [6] of green, orange and yellow [7]; this last pattern is a reminder of his friendship with Sabito [8]. During the final battle against Muzan Kibutsuji, he lost his right arm[9] and three months after the incident, he had his hair cut[10].

personality

Giyu has a reserved personality and always wears a serious expression on his face. He is shown to have a strong sense of justice with no tolerance for those who do not know their own limitations and waste their lives. Although he held a deep hatred towards demons and never hesitated to kill one, he was able to go against the rules of the Demon Slayer Corps by protecting Nezuko Kamado upon realizing that she might be different from the rest of the demons[11] and even agreed to sacrifice his life for the sake of her and her brother, Tanjiro Kamado by committing sepukku if the girl were to eat a human[12]. This implied that he did not completely despise demons like the rest did[13], and was willing to make an exception by letting them[14] live if they did not kill or eat humans[15] proving in turn that he was the most pragmatic when dealing with demons instead of hating them like the rest of the hunters did. He is someone who does not speak much and seemed to have trouble interacting with others, because of this he kept his distance from his companions[16]. This led him to have a kind of complex with what others think of him and he refused to believe that he was hated as Shinobu Kochō claimed[17]. After having the opportunity to relate to those around him, he wished to improve his relationship with the rest of the Pillars. His distant attitude was due to the fact that he developed a strong inferiority complex since his participation in the Final Selection, which made him a more severe person; this affected him to the point of wanting to abandon his position as a Pillar of Water. He came to his senses after Tanjiro Kamado explained to him that he should not live with the guilt of being a survivor but that he should live for the people who sacrificed their lives for him[18].

Tanjiro's appearance

Tanjiro has slicked back burgundy hair and dark eyes with a scar on the upper left part of his forehead which is exposed. She wears long rectangular earrings with a sun symbol and a black and green checkerboard patterned haori over the standard Demon Hunter uniform. He carries a wooden box where Nezuko sleeps during the day, made by Sakonji. During the final confrontation against Muzan, he wounds Tanjiro in his right eye, poisoning the young man in the process as the wound begins to quickly become infected until it becomes a grotesque mass of flesh similar to a tumor that seriously injures Tanjiro, losing his eye. right in the process. Later during the fight, Muzan rips off his left arm.

Tanjiro's personality

Tanjiro is kind by nature and has been described by others as having very soft eyes. He is very determined and will not give up once he has a goal to achieve; one example being finding a cure for Nezuko. Even though he is relatively strong on his own, he is not opposed to asking others for help when he needs it. He is very protective of his friends and even more so of his younger sister. His most important attribute is his ability to empathize with anyone, even Demons. This often gives him hesitation when killing Demons. However, this trait could also cause some Demons to redeem themselves moments before death, though it rarely happens. However, Tanjiro has a dark side to his personality which he keeps repressed, but when his tolerance limits are exceeded he is blinded by his anger and frustration, becoming an aggressive and ruthless person towards his adversaries, even going so far as to not forgive and hate demons like Akaza and Muzan who delight in cold-bloodedly murdering innocent people for the simple fact of making their victims suffer. Tanjiro also considers himself to be an honorable person, being unable to lie to anyone without twisting his face, although he is terrible at lying since, when he was undercover as a courtesan, the oiran reveals to him that from the beginning she knew he was actually a man but did not say anything because she found it curious and wanted to know why he pretended to be a woman. Due to the years of service and the amount of experience he faced, he became more calculating and strict in his decision. His courage to protect the weak committed him to face his enemy with respect and dignity, whether they are good or evil demons.
