What is the Reaper Leviathan?

The Reaper Leviathan is a species of aggressive Leviathan-class fauna that is typically found swimming in large open areas, such as the Crash Zone, Dunes, and Mountains. One can be found lurking around the base of Mountains Island. It is the third-largest aggressive creature in the game, and the fifth-largest overall. There are a total of twenty-five Reaper Leviathans in Subnautica: 1 in the Bulb Zone, 7 in the Mountains, 8 in the Dunes, and 9 in the Impact Zone. Therefore, great care must be taken when exploring those biomes.

Appearance

The Reaper Leviathan is a massive creature. With fins and jaws included, the creature is only slightly smaller than a Cyclops submarine. The Reaper Leviathan has a long, slender, muscular body with four caudal fins and two pectoral fins. It also has two dorsal fins that run the length of its body and two ventral fins that occupy a small portion of its belly. Most of its fins, along with its back, are red in color. The fins and other red areas of the body have a slight bioluminescence. Its head features a horn (likely used to ram its prey), a large mouth housing numerous teeth, as well as two pairs of eyes with grey sclera. It has two maroon jaws on either side of its face that have a dark gradient and are topped with large black claws, four in total. Multiple scars can be seen on the body, particularly around the facial area, and the bluish-white skin appears similar in texture to human skin.

Behavior

The Reaper Leviathan emits loud, echoing roars that can be heard from great distances. According to the databank entry, this roar is a form of echolocation, although it does not function like this in-game. It also appears to circle its prey (or more commonly the person) for some time before attacking, and will often attack from behind by surprise. The Reaper Leviathan usually swims deeper, but does not reach the seafloor. People can take advantage of this and swim on the surface to avoid detection. The person is also less likely to be detected if they use a Seaglide instead of a submersible. When the Reaper Leviathan takes damage, it will shudder and roar shortly after taking damage. It will not respawn if it dies.

Talent

The Reaper Leviathan can deal 80% damage to a person if attacked outside of their vehicle. Wearing a reinforced diving suit will reduce the damage taken by half, meaning they will take 40% damage instead of 80%. If the next attack would kill the person, it will hold its victim in its jaws, pause for a second while roaring, and then proceed to draw the person into its mouth, killing them. It is also able to grab the Seamoth and shake it. Doing so will deal 40-60% damage for eight to thirteen seconds until it releases the vehicle. However, if it is hit with the Seamoth's Defense System, it will instantly drop it. The Reaper Leviathan will also grab the Prawn Suit. If successful, the damage dealt will only be around 20-30%. Even in Creative mode, Reaper Leviathans will still jump and catch Seamoths and Prawn Suits. The Reaper Leviathan has also been observed grabbing a Seamoth or Shrimp Suit and smashing it into the seabed, completely destroying it afterwards.

Leviathan species are enormous organisms that are at the top of their respective food chains. This species is an agile hunter, with highly developed senses. 1. Powerful jaws: This leviathan is able to grab its prey with four powerful jaws and draw it within reach of its jaws. The simulated pressure exceeds the Seamoth's crushing strength. 2. Echolocation: The deep roar the Reaper makes at regular intervals is actually sonar: if you can hear it, the Reaper can see you. 3. Profile: The scanned specimen was 55 m long. It was observed circling its prey and attacking it from behind. This creature is almost all muscle. Very little brain. No sense of morality. Just muscle, synapses and teeth.
