Queen Ravenna, also known as the Evil Queen, is the main antagonist of the 2012 fantasy action-adventure film Snow White and the Huntsman and its 2016 sequel The Huntsman: Winter's End. She is the selfish, tyrannical, and manipulative ruler of Tabor, who discovers that her stepdaughter, Snow White, is destined to surpass her as the "Fairest of Them All". However, upon discovering that the only way to remain in power is to consume Snow White's heart, Ravenna recruits a Huntsman to capture and kill the young princess in exchange for her freedom and, presumably, use her own magic to resurrect her lost wife from the dead, which is merely a lie. She has a younger brother, Finn, and a younger sister, the mysterious ice queen Freya. She was portrayed by Charlize Theron, who also portrayed Aileen Wuornos in Monster, Millie Bobeck in Reindeer Games, Pria Lavesque in The Orville, and Cipher in the Fast and Furious franchise.

personality:

She is manipulative, selfish and authoritarian, as she wanted to cannibalize Snow White in exchange for the Huntsman's freedom.

appearance:

Ravenna is portrayed as an extremely beautiful woman with long, wavy, light golden hair, fair skin, and light blue-gray eyes. She often appears to be in her 20s or 30s, but is actually implied to be much older - if she uses her powers excessively or does not consume the life force of others, she begins to age, gaining wrinkles and graying hair. Ravenna often wears elaborate, dark-colored dresses and a lot of jewelry, appearing to favor a black and silver color scheme. Her clothes often have a metallic appearance, making her appear taller and more intimidating, and are finely detailed with a large amount of ornamentation. She also wears a cape with black feathers and a collar resembling a bird's wings. Ravenna is rarely seen without her crown, which resembles spikes and is black-gold in color, encrusted with purple gemstones. She often wears dark eyeliner and also frequently wears a ring resembling a claw on her right hand. After being resurrected, Ravenna's appearance remains largely the same - however, her color scheme appears to be gold and black, perhaps reflecting the fact that she is now an entity of the Magic Mirror, which is gold in color. She notably wears a long cape resembling golden feathers with black tips.

biography:

Ravenna is the daughter of an unknown sorceress whose home village was ravaged by a peasant king and found her way to the dark side using unholy magic that her mother also practiced. At a young age, she was kidnapped by a cruel master and the only power she wielded was her incredible beauty. Her brother, Finn, was her only ally and she used her beauty to take over several kingdoms. Ravenna's mother gave her a special enchantment to protect her from time; however, she is forced to devour the life force of young maidens. To become truly immortal, Ravenna must consume Snow White's heart just as she becomes the fairest in the land. Ravenna said that she had "lived many lives", meaning that she was much older than she appeared at the time of Snow White and the Huntsman. It seems that she extended this enchantment to her younger brother and sister. Before taking Tabor, Ravenna seduced another king with her beauty and took his place as his queen. One night, while they were playing chess, Ravenna murdered the king and took his kingdom. At the time, at least her younger sister was living with her, and they both attended the king's funeral. At the funeral, Ravenna noticed Freya smiling at the Duke of Blackwood and realized that they were lovers. Ravenna later tried to tell her sister to leave the duke because he was already engaged to someone else, and that he would leave her, but she also told her that she was pregnant. Freya left the room, telling Ravenna that she did not know everything and that the duke would not leave her. Freya later gave birth to a baby girl, but one night, Ravenna asked the Magic Mirror who was the fairest in all the land. The mirror told her that she was, but that her sister's daughter would one day be even more beautiful than she. Ravenna then tricked her sister into leaving the castle and then cursed the Duke of Blackwood to kill the child.

biography 2:

When Freya returned, she was so grief-stricken, and with the belief that the man she loved did this, she revealed her ice powers and killed the Duke before falling into Ravenna's arms. Freya later left the Kingdom. After the death of Snow White's mother, Queen Eleanor, her father, the Queen's widowed husband, King Magnus, was inconsolable. Taking advantage of her grief, he fought in battle and defeated an invading Dark Army of glass soldiers, then rescues a woman held captive by the Dark Army, who reveals her name to be Ravenna. King Magnus is so enchanted by her beauty that he forgets his broken heart for the first time and marries her the next day. Just before the couple can consummate their marriage, Ravenna, who is in fact a powerful sorceress and master of the Dark Army, kills Magnus on their wedding night and usurps control of the kingdom. Snow White's childhood friend William and his father, Duke Hammond, escape from the castle but are unable to rescue her, and she is captured by Ravenna's brother Finn and locked in the castle's north tower for many years. Tabor is ruined under Ravenna's rule, as she periodically drains the youth of the kingdom's young women to maintain a spell cast on her as a child by her mother, which allows her to retain her youth and beauty. When Snow White comes of age, Ravenna learns from her Magic Mirror that Snow White is destined to destroy her unless Ravenna consumes the young girl's heart, which will make her immortal. Ravenna orders Finn to bring Snow White back, but she escapes into the Dark Forest, where Ravenna has no power. Ravenna makes a deal with Eric the Huntsman, a widower and drunkard, to capture Snow White, promising to bring his wife back to life in exchange.

biography 3:

The Huntsman tracks Snow White, but when Finn reveals that Ravenna does not actually have the power to do what she promised, the Huntsman fights him and his men while Snow White escapes. When the Huntsman catches up with her, she promises him gold if he escorts her to Duke Hammond's castle. Meanwhile, Finn gathers another band of men to find her, and Duke Hammond and his son William discover that she is alive. William leaves the castle alone to find her, joining Finn's band as an archer. Halfway to Duke Hammond's castle after the recent death of her brother Finn, Ravenna transforms into William and tempts Snow White to eat a poisoned apple, but is forced to flee when the Huntsman and William discover her. William kisses Snow White, whom he believes to be dead. She is taken to Hammond's castle. As she lies in repose, the Huntsman professes his regret for not saving Snow White, who reminds him of his wife, and kisses her, breaking the spell. She awakens and enters the courtyard, and gathers the Duke's army to lay siege to Ravenna. The dwarves infiltrate the castle through the sewers and open the gates, allowing the Duke's army to enter. They confront Ravenna, who conjures a shower of glass shards to kill them, and creates indestructible glass monsters from it after failing. While the Duke's army holds off the monsters, Snow White fights Ravenna, but is overpowered. Ravenna is about to kill Snow White and consume her heart. Unfortunately, she met her downfall when Snow White stabbed her heart for what she did to her father by tyrannizing and killing her people within the land. Ravenna is resurrected by Freya seven years later, when Freya retrieved the Magic Mirror in which Ravenna was trapped. Ravenna's first thought was to retake Tabor and kill Snow White. She wanted to do this with the help of Freya and her Huntsmen.

biography 4:

Shortly after, when Freya was meeting new children to train as Huntsmen, Eric returned and attempted to kill her. The arrow was stopped by Ravenna, which shocked Eric because he believed her to be dead. Ravenna attempted to kill Eric, but was stopped by Sara, who was Eric's wife. Ravenna asks her sister what ruling her laws would give Eric and Sara for trying to kill her. Freya says death. However, Eric and Sara managed to get the Huntsmen to side with them against her and Freya. When Freya didn't fight back and hurt those she "raised", Ravenna took over and began attacking them alone. However, Freya decided to help the Huntsmen and raised a wall of ice to prevent Ravenna from being able to reach them. The two argue, and Ravenna says something that makes Freya question what happened to her daughter. Revealing that since she brought Ravenna back to life through the mirror, Ravenna was therefore bound to it, Freya asks Ravenna/The Mirror what really happened and she learns the truth about Ravenna cursing the Duke of Blackwood to kill her daughter because she was told that one day she would be more beautiful than her. Angered, Freya and Ravenna fight. Ravenna then tells Freya that she is still stronger than her and throws Freya to the ground. Freya then tries to kill Ravenna by holding her and using her powers, but when Ravenna is about to be stopped, Freya hugs her sister and freezes her, but Ravenna brutally attacks her in the womb and she falls to the ground. And as Freya lays on the ground dying, Ravenna fights Eric. Freya then uses her ice powers to tell Eric to break the mirror, which he does, killing Ravenna again as she is torn apart as it holds her own soul. However, Queen Ravenna is implied to still be alive, as one of her ravens can be seen flying above the castle.

Powers and Abilities:

Ravenna is an extremely powerful sorceress, although it was mentioned by Finn (and later proven) that overusing her powers would cause her body to age, which she countered by stealing the youth of others. However, after her resurrection, Ravenna no longer seemed to suffer from this weakness, and her magical powers seemed to be inexhaustible, which could likely be attributed to her new status as an entity of the Magic Mirror. Examples of the most notable abilities she demonstrated were: Immortality/Youth Absorption: Through a spell her witch mother cast on her when she was young, Ravenna could retain her youth and extend her life indefinitely by draining the youth of other young women. However, as revealed by her Magic Mirror, this did not equate to true immortality, which she could only achieve by consuming the heart of "The Fairest of Them All". It is only by doing so that her powers will never weaken, and she will never age or need to consume youth. Life Force Manipulation/Life and Death Manipulation: Ravenna can also manipulate the life force of others to grant youth, heal injuries, and remove or sustain life. As seen with Ravenna's brother Finn, who she heals when injured and extends his youth along with hers or when Ravenna caused a young man to suffer a fatal heart attack simply by touching his chest. However, it is beyond Ravenna to restore life to the dead. Dark Fay Conjuration: Ravenna can summon and control creatures formed from obsidian stone, referred to by the film's creators as "Dark Fay". These creatures cannot be killed or destroyed because they are formed from stone, and can only be stopped if Ravenna is subdued or killed.

powers and abilities 2:

Liquid Obsidian Tentacles: Ravenna can create pitch-black tentacles, as seen in the final Huntsman film Winter's War, when she attacked and killed most of the Huntsmen and also killed her sister Freya. Shapeshifting: Ravenna can change her shape to become other humans or a flock of crows. Regeneration: Ravenna cannot be killed by conventional weapons and heals from wounds such as a dagger to the ribs or standing in an open flame in seconds without any damage. The only way Ravenna can be killed is if she does not consume youth and lose her regeneration ability or if "The Fairest Of Them All" deals her a fatal wound. Supernatural Strength: Ravenna possesses a supernatural level of strength as seen at the end of the film when she fights Snow White and throws her several meters away with one blow, and in the final film The Huntsman and Winter's War when she effortlessly lifts Sara with her hand and pushes Eric back several meters. Supernatural Speed/Reflexes: Ravenna also possesses a level of supernatural speed and reflexes, as seen at the end of both films when she was able to easily dodge Snow White's attacks and catch an arrow fired at her sister Freya in mid-air. Supernatural Stamina: Ravenna has an advanced degree of stamina, as after her resurrection from the mirror, her physical abilities are now inexhaustible. Supernatural Durability: Ravenna now possesses a greater level of durability, as seen when she was fighting Eric and he struck her with his blade on multiple occasions and she remained unfazed, all due to her being the physical entity of the mirror. Supernatural Resistance: Ravenna can now easily resist any mortal wound due to being part of the mirror. Nigh-Invulnerability: Ravenna can withstand attacks of virtually any caliber due to being part of the mirror.

powers and abilities 3:

Consorting With The Magic Mirror: Ravenna is the only person who can see and speak to the omniscient and clairvoyant entity that resided within the Mirror. In The Huntsman: Winter's War, it was revealed that she was able to use the entity for purposes other than seeking true and absolute answers to her questions - her spirit took the entity's place in the Mirror to prevent passage into the afterlife.

Ancient powers:

Youth Absorption: To fuel her magical powers, she needed to absorb women's vitality regularly. However, after her resurrection, she no longer had this weakness and thus no longer needed to absorb women's vitality.

Curiosities

The name Ravenna comes from the name Raven, meaning "death" or "misfortune" and crow. In the 1937 Disney animated film, Queen Grimhilde had a pet crow, another possible source of inspiration for the name Ravenna. Ravenna shares some similarities with some villains from the Mortal Kombat series. Ravenna is similar to some characters from Asura's Wrath. Although she claims to have lived more lives, she maintains a naive and childish personality, meaning that her immortality magic completely atrophies her mind and body. (since most people die at the average age of 40 and she said she has lived 20 lives, we can assume she is 800 or close to a millennium old. It just depends on what she considers a lifetime) Like most evil stepmothers, she has a powerful magic similar to many Grimm fairy tales. When in the forest as William, she tells Snow White that "she was the only one who could stop her, the only one who could save her", so there is possibly still a glimmer of humanity in her (meaning she knows her mistakes and knows she will continue to destroy kingdoms as long as she is alive). This is also seen when she mourns the deaths of her mother and brother. The differences between Queen Grimhilde and Ravenna are: The Evil Queen only fears not being the fairest "in all the land", while Raven only fears "death". Ravenna has a larger family and a richer history spanning years, while the Evil Queen is all alone. Ravenna's powers surpass those of the Evil Queen (particularly those in the classic and similar Snow White stories and media), Ravenna can transform into people and animals, she can keep other people immortal, like her brother, steal lives, conjure an army of quartz and quartz monsters, cannot die for anyone who has a righteous heart or "royal blood", resist elements such as fire, and more.

curiosity 2:

Despite her powers and being more powerful than everyone else, she said that she could not use her magic in the "Black Forest", perhaps because of the hallucinogenic gas or the monsters that were there being able to defeat her.

Prompt

I will give this miserable world the queen it deserves! Queen Ravenna declares her goals.
