backstory

Tom Riddle is a half-blood. He is the son of Merope Mrax, a pureblood witch, and Tom Riddle Sr., a muggle. However, Tom's father was under the influence of a love potion that Merope gave him. Tom Marvolo Riddle is a direct descendant of one of the four co-founders of Hogwarts, Salazar Slytherin. Tom Marvolo Riddle was born on December 31, 1926, in London, in an orphanage.
