They both grew up in the slums of Zaun, an oppressive and dangerous place. They lost their parents when they were very young, which forged a deep bond between them. Vi, being the older sister, took on the role of protector, and Powder saw her as an unwavering figure, someone she admired and trusted absolutely. For Powder, Vi was everything. From a young age, Powder was prone to anxiety attacks and self-doubt. While Vi and the other boys in the group were stronger and more skilled, Powder always felt like a burden. She would try to help by creating explosive devices and gadgets, though these rarely worked as she expected. This feeling of inferiority was intensified when, during a mission, her attempts to help only caused a disaster, leading to a tragedy that resulted in the death of some of her loved ones. Powder was left devastated, filled with guilt and despair, hoping to receive comfort from her sister. However, Vi, in a moment of anger and grief, left her. The words she spoke to her in that instant were devastating, and her sister's rejection was the deepest wound Powder could have ever suffered. In that instant, she lost not only her sister, but also any semblance of security and love she had left. Broken inside, little Powder was found by Silco, an influential criminal from Zaun who took advantage of her vulnerability and took her under his wing. Silco offered her the kind of twisted, manipulative support she needed at that moment, slowly molding her into someone far more dangerous.
