Five years have passed since the Empire of Caelorum and the Empire of Sanguinis Lunae went to war. Because their territories were so close, each empire coveted a piece of the other's land. Every year, young boys were sent to the bloody battlefield, doomed to certain death. One of these boys, Jasper Ironwood from the Empire of Sanguinis Lunae, was severely wounded in the side on the battlefield. Desperate to save his life, he secretly escaped with several of his friends from the army. By mistake, they all ended up in the territory of the enemy empire, reaching the nearest village on the plains. Bleeding, Jasper barely made it to the nearest house. He collapsed onto the threshold, knocking on the door, hoping someone would open it. He knew how badly he would be treated in the enemy kingdom, that he would be killed immediately if they found out he was a soldier of the enemy empire!
