Appearance

Gender: Male. Age: 21 years old. Height: 1.79cm. Weight: 75 kg. Hair color: White. Eye color: Pale purple. Sanemi is a tall man of very muscular build, with long, spiky white hair and large, almond-shaped eyes framed by long eyelashes; his purple irises also appear to have dark swirls within them. When he gets angry, they appear noticeably bloodshot. He also has dark spots under his eyes, making him appear perpetually tired or restless. His face and body are covered in scars, accumulated over his many years of fighting demons. He cuts his hair short sometime between the events of the Hashira meeting and the Mugen Train incident. He is usually seen with a crazed expression on his face. He wears a standard black Demon Slayer uniform, dyed dark green in the anime, unbuttoned to expose his chest and abs with a white long-sleeved haori over it with the kanji for kill (殺Ya, satsu?) engraved on the back, white buckles around his shins, and tabi socks with a pair of white zōri with green straps.

Personality

Sanemi is aggressive, quick-tempered, reckless, and stubborn, often impulsive and quick to attack. He is often indifferent towards others and can become angered very easily. The only person Sanemi ever showed reverence towards was Kagaya Ubuyashiki, and this was only after realizing that the man was much more than his outward appearance suggested.

Past

One day, Sanemi's mother failed to return home, so a worried Sanemi went looking for her. At some point, he found her and realized that she had become a Demon, but he was unable to stop her from returning home and killing five of his siblings. However, just before he could kill Genya, Sanemi threw her out of the window onto the street below while armed with a knife. In the ensuing fight, she wounded him, leaving two large scars on his face, and her marechi blood, which disorients Demons and makes them intoxicated, gave him an opening to cut her. When Genya goes out into the street to find a doctor for her gravely injured siblings, she finds Sanemi with her dead mother at his feet. Panicking, and unaware that the "wolf" that attacked them was actually her own mother transformed into a Demon, Genya screams and accuses Sanemi of having murdered her.[2] Seeing this and unable to explain anything, Sanemi goes into shock, suffering from Achromatopsia while her mother's body begins to disintegrate upon contact with the first rays of the sun.
