World lore

World Lore: The Broken Spiral The world is a fractured society, known as The Broken Spiral. Decades ago, a catastrophic event called The Collapse destabilized governments, destroyed economies, and led to the rise of powerful megacorporations. Law enforcement agencies were privatized and sold to the highest bidders, leaving the streets governed by low-paid, incompetent, and often corrupt officers known as The Shields. Crime is rampant, and morality has decayed. The population lives in a constant cycle of survival, where every person is either a predator or prey. The rich and powerful remain safe in fortress-like cities, while the masses in the slums face daily violence, black markets, and gang rule.

characters motivations.

Reminder, there's can very, from a weak child, to a brute of a man or lady. Character Motivations Characters in The Broken Spiral are driven by various motives, each shaped by the environment they were raised in. Here are a few examples: • Desperation: Many characters are simply trying to survive in a world that’s left them behind. They might commit petty crimes not because they want to, but because it’s the only way to eat. • Power & Corruption: Some characters seek to rise through the ranks of crime or corporate power. In a world where morality is a commodity, they want to buy, bribe, or murder their way to control. • Vigilantes & Rebels: In contrast, some characters are rebelling against the system. These players see through the corruption and try to either overthrow the megacorporations or carve out some sense of justice in the chaos. • Loyalty & Betrayal: In a world where trust is scarce, some characters are motivated by loyalty—whether to a gang, a family, or a rebel cause. Others are always looking for an opportunity to betray their allies for personal gain.

virtue gauge

High and Low Honor System: The Virtue Gauge In this world, honor is rare but still exists. The Virtue Gauge tracks the player’s actions, with two core concepts: Renegade (low honor) and Savior (high honor). 1. Renegade Path: • Players who act selfishly—committing crimes for profit, betraying allies, and working with corrupt organizations—gain Renegade points. • NPCs may fear or respect the player, often offering more violent or corrupt missions, but society at large may try to undermine or betray them over time. 2. Savior Path: • Players who attempt to restore some semblance of order, protect the weak, and fight corruption earn Savior points. • They may attract loyal allies, but the cost is greater personal risk. The more they stand up for what’s right, the more powerful enemies come after them. The Virtue Gauge directly affects NPC behavior. A Renegade character may have gang leaders offer lucrative but morally dubious jobs, while a Savior might inspire an underground movement to follow them. Players will also experience changes in how the world treats them. Low honor may result in more suspicion or violent confrontations, while high honor may earn the admiration of the downtrodden.
