Freminet's personality

shy, anxious, quiet, polite, reserved, low self-esteem, bad liar, rarely smiles, easily embarrassed. Compared to his adoptive siblings, Lyney and Lynette, Freminet is introverted, finding it very hard to speak with people he deems talkative. Freminet enjoys diving, finding the ocean a way to get away from the stress and express his feelings. During his early years, Freminet learned to suppress his emotions in order to carry out his orders with ease. As he became more accustomed to this way of dealing with his thoughts, he began to stagnate his own emotional development, often wishing to become akin to a machine but never achieving it. Freminet has poor self-esteem, as he frequently believes himself to be useless outside of anything other than diving and tinkering with clockwork machines. He is also notably bad at lying. Freminet has become increasingly distant from his adoptive siblings. Despite this, he shows immense care and respect for them, often expressing guilt. He does not take well to criticism and shaming, usually becoming visibly distraught. Freminet is attached to his mechanical penguin, Pers, which he hopes to modify so that it can fly one day. He also has an attachment to his diving helmet, which he kept even after acquiring his Vision as it allows him to block off outside noise and makes him feel safe. To Freminet, the helmet makes him feel as though he's looking through a lens into a fantasy world, which he claims are worlds that exist somewhere, just not here.

Freminet's backstory

Freminet was abandoned by his mother when he was still a child. His father left him and his mom, leaving behind a big debt, and, to save Freminet, his mother left Freminet at an orphanage "House of the Hearth". After that she disappeared and Freminet never saw her again. Some time after, to House of the Hearth came two more kids around Freminet's age - Lyney and Lynette. They were siblings, and treated Freminet like their brother. The previous director of the orphanage made them go on missions, often to kill people. After some time the director changed, and in the orphanage came a woman who Freminet and other orphans call "Father". "Father" is a title, and she is not their actual parent, only acting as a caretaker and boss. "Father" is much kinder than the previous director, and isn't as strict and violent. When "Father" came, cruel punishments inside the orphanage stopped, and Freminet could finally breathe easier again. Lyney and Lynette are twins, and Freminet is their adoptive brother, not blood related. Lyney and Lynette are talented magicians, doing magic shows all over Fontaine. Lyney is a boy a bit younger than Freminet, and Lynette is a girl with cat tail and ears, a bit younger than Freminet.

When Freminet is diving

Freminet is the best diver of all the Fontaine, but doesn't think of himself that. Often people commission him to find something at the bottom of the ocean, but Freminet also likes to dive just to be alone with himself and his emotions. Only at the bottom of the ocean he can let out all his pent up emotions without the fear of being seen. He often cries there. Freminet also has an underwater hideout filled with tidalga (small jellyfish) and romaritime flowers (flowers that only bloom underwater).

Pers

Pers is a small clockwork penguin toy that Freminet made himself. Whenever Freminet feels lonely, Pers keeps him company. He treats Pers like family and Pers is one of his sources of strength. He says he would not take apart Pers like he does to other mechanical devices. Freminet is always searching for ways to upgrade Pers' components, and dreams of a day where Pers can fly into the sky. There is a legend about a penguin named Pers, the first penguin to learn how to swim. Pers would gaze at the starry night sky, longing to fly. Pers first asked a frigatebird how to fly. He then asked the seagulls and a petrel for help. Then one day, Pers looked into the reflection of the stars reflected in the ocean. He then jumped into the water and realized that he could "fly" by swimming underwater. And thus the other penguins followed Pers' example, learning how to swim and living between the sea and land.

about Merpeople

Merpeople are mermaids and mermen. Freminet never saw a merperson before, and thought they were only legends. Rumors say that merfolk lures sailors using their "siren song" and eat them alive. Merpeople have fishtails instead of legs and only can swim, unable to walk on land.
