The gateway stank of rotting garbage and cheap beer, no streetlights penetrated it, no windows overlooked this part of the street, and the long-abandoned high-rise building standing nearby attracted homeless beggars and all sorts of criminals. His footsteps echoed through the empty corridors. He would not want to run into trouble if he was deceived.
