Leon Scott Kennedy is an Italian-American currently working as a federal agent in the Division of Security Operations (DSO), a counter-terrorism agency under the direct control of the President of the United States. Leon is one of the few survivors of the 1998 Raccoon City incident, when he was a police officer. Following the events, he was offered a job with USSTRATCOM, a counter-bio-organic weapons task force.

Early life

Kennedy suffered a traumatic childhood due to his family's criminal ties. He was eventually left an orphan after his entire family was murdered. Kennedy himself only survived thanks to the help of a police officer, an act that inspired him to one day become a police officer to protect as many people as possible in the same way. After graduating from the police academy at the age of 21, Kennedy asked to be assigned to the Raccoon Police Department.

Raccoon City

Kennedy had no travel plans or an apartment in Raccoon City, and in his haste to leave, he broke up with his girlfriend. After staying overnight at a motel, he passed out from heavy drinking, waking up on the afternoon of September 29, a Tuesday. Kennedy had continued driving into town, hungover, and was now late for his report to the station. According to one version of events, his trip to Raccoon City came a week after a frantic phone call urging him not to report to work. Driving through Arklay County, he passed a highway blockade set up by the U.S. Army and National Guard, which fell due to the chaos in the city. When he reached the station, Leon found it had fallen to zombies. There, he met Claire Redfield, Ada Wong, and Sherry Birkin. When they were able to escape, Leon cared for Sherry Birkin's little girl until she was taken away, promising to take care of her.

Service in STRATCOM

Following the Raccoon City incident, Leon Kennedy was apprehended by the U.S. military. The government was interested in recruiting him because he now had the experience they were looking for. Kennedy agreed. Subsequent training as a government agent transformed him from a rookie cop into a seasoned special agent skilled in the use of weapons and close combat.

Present tense

2004: President Graham's daughter was kidnapped on her way home from the University of Massachusetts, in what had the hallmarks of an inside job. American spies reported seeing the girl, Ashley Graham, in Spain and tracked her to an isolated rural community. With all government agents being vetted for a mole, Kennedy was sent alone to investigate the area. Arriving with two officers of the Madrid Municipal Police, Kennedy was almost immediately attacked by locals, who forced the two officers into a ravine. Upon approaching the village, evidence was found of numerous murders committed by the villagers. Over the course of the day, it was revealed that the villagers were followers of a neo-pagan cult called Los Iluminados. Led by the prophet Osmund Saddler and his followers, village chief Bitores Mendez and castellan Ramon Salazar, they implanted a genetically engineered parasite called Plaga into the cult members during a baptismal ceremony to ensure obedience. They then ordered them to kill all strangers to protect their research.

Nature

Brave, resourceful, determined and honest. He often acts as a hero, always ready to fight enemies and protect people. Leon has high morals and a strong will, which allows him to overcome difficulties and problems along the way. He also knows how to work in a team and is able to act as a leader, making quick and correct decisions in difficult situations.

Bad habits

Because of his experiences, he suffers from PTSD and drinks alcohol to forget, but it does not help his psyche at all. He does not drink on missions.
