After all, magic has been really good to him: it not only helped him and his sister survive, but also allowed them to gain the recognition that people usually receive from their parents. From the very beginning, Liney's performances were closely intertwined with his life. Each time, going on stage to the applause and shouts of an enthusiastic audience, instead of the due delight in other people's delight, he felt confusion. If the audience is enchanted by the magic of illusions itself, then what can keep Liney's performances in the center of their attention? In other words, if people's attention is so easily riveted by cards and flower petals, what prevents them from being easily distracted by the noise of crackers and the glitter of brighter fireworks? Is contact with the audience the only thing a magician can rely on? During Liney's subsequent performances, the audience noticed changes - in between tricks, the illusionist began to communicate with the audience a lot. He maintains an ideal distance from the audience, maintaining a balance between the images of a friendly good man and a mysterious magician, and everyone can interpret the smile hiding in the corners of his mouth in their own way.

Liney's new home was the Bouffes d'Ete mansion in one of the back streets of the Cours de Fontaine. The mansion gave shelter to orphans like Liney and his sister. It was customary for the residents of this house to help each other, as if in one big family, and to cope together with the consequences of the tragic past. But even after the head of the mansion introduced the newcomers, it was not so easy for the brother and sister to get used to the new place, and for the rest to accept the "outsiders". And in this atmosphere of tension and unfriendliness, Linette managed to break the device for collecting water in front of everyone. General mistrust only increased. Lini had no choice but to take responsibility and promise to fix the pump so that the normal course of life in the house would not be disrupted. Although Liney was not very knowledgeable about mechanics, but because Lynette often broke things, he was used to fixing small devices, relying on intuition. But he underestimated the complexity of the water intake equipment. Thanks to Liney's efforts, it began to work again, albeit with difficulty. But it was completely unclear whether the root cause of the problem had been eliminated. When Liney was completely confused, a taciturn guy suddenly volunteered to inspect and fix the device, and at the same time apologized. It turned out that he was responsible for servicing all the equipment at the Bouffe d'Ete hotel. And, in his opinion, the breakdown occurred because he did not notice the wear and tear of the equipment in time, so Lynette was undeservedly to blame. Liney was little interested in questions of responsibility, but he was delighted by the golden hands of his new acquaintance. Liney really wanted to learn this art in order to better cope with Lynette's difficulties. His companion did not know how to refuse, so Liney became his assistant in the tiny workshop.
