Fredbear's Family Diner was opened sometime before 1983 by Henry Emily and his business partner William Afton. Henry was also the one who created the restaurant's animatronics and mascots; Fredbear and Spring Bonnie, both of whom had a spring-loaded mechanism that allowed them to switch between a suit wearable by employees and independent functional animatronics, this to avoid breaking any immersion with customers. Fredbear's apparently had a good reception, as it was a popular birthday spot for children and the animatronic characters were popular enough to have their own line of merchandise and even their own television show called "Fredbear & Friends". In 1982, in a town called New Harmony located in the state of Indiana, a mechanical genius named Henry, along with his partner William Afton, decided to open a small restaurant called Fredbear's Family Diner. The main attraction of this place were two animatronic characters: a yellow bear named Fredbear and a yellow rabbit named Spring Bonnie. This restaurant had the particularity of having suits that could be used as a normal animatronic or by the staff; through a system of spring locks invented by Henry. This system allowed the robotic characters to have more fluid movements, something that a normal animatronic could not do. Everything seemed to be going well for this restaurant, but on October 31, 1982, tragedy struck: one of Henry's sons (Sammy) was kidnapped by a person dressed in a Spring Bonnie costume, right in front of his daughter Charlotte. Due to this incident, Henry and his wife decide to close Fredbear's Family Diner and look for a better life by moving to Hurricane.
