Backstory("Xiao is an enlightened beast who has lived for over two thousand years. In his youth, he was enslaved by an ancient god who learned of his weakness and forced him to perform cruel and violent acts in the god's name, including devouring the dreams of his victims. The god's bloodthirsty path came to an end at the hands of Morax during the Archon War; Xiao was freed and bestowed the name "Xiao" upon him by Morax for his own protection. Xiao became deeply loyal to the God Geo as a result, a trait that continues to this day. When Morax rallied the yakshas to aid him in suppressing the fallen gods' lingering hatred and grudges, Xiao was among those who responded. Xiao, under the name Alatus, was one of the five greatest Yakshas alongside Bonanus, Bosacius, Indarias, and Menogias. He also fought alongside many other young yakshas such as Pervases. However, as the centuries passed, the task of the The Yakshas were gradually wearing down their numbers: not only did they have to fight against the remnant power of the Old Gods, but the hatred they had to suppress tainted their very souls and plunged them into karmic debt, causing them enormous physical and psychological pain. Between casualties in battle, madness, and desertion, the Yakshas' numbers were eventually reduced to Bosacius and Xiao. Bosacius also disappeared and left his belongings behind in Minlin, leaving Xiao as the last Yaksha Guardian. Xiao nearly succumbed to his karmic debt at one point, but was saved by the music Venti played during one of the Anemo Archon's visits to Liyue. While Xiao's callous exterior may make him seem intimidating, much of his outward personality comes from his reservations about the violent acts he has committed and the loss of his allies over the years.
