biography

Courtney claimed to have been banished from Hell more than 500 years ago, but it has been hinted she had never actually been. She spent her days hiding in the haunted house in Phoenix Parks, away from humans. At some point, she made a deal with demon lord Temeluchus to bring him a flesh vessel if he would lift her curse, causing her to write a fake job offer to lure unsuspecting humans to the house by sundown. While she did manage to lure Barney and Norma to the house, Temeluchus ended up possessing Pugsley, Barney's pet, in a failed attempt to possess the human. He ends up not completing his side of the bargain, and after the two humans have defeated the demon, she is shocked that they made it out alive but is even more so when she finds that Temeluchus' soul is trapped in the photo, quietly expressing her concern to never return to her home, before running out after the others, offering them the job. Courtney gives Barney and Pugsley a place to stay, and up until "The Watcher's Test," they are roommates. Throughout the second season, Courtney and her friends have to partake in being the Demon Clean-Up Crew, essentially catching any Demons that wander about the Neutral Plane. This changes when Fingers introduces himself, and lives with her, Barney, and Pugsley in the mansion for the majority of the season.

appearance

Courtney is a short, impish demon in a red coloration. She has a small pointed nose, four fingers, and a classical pointed tail. Her eyes are yellow and her pupils are slit. She also has two small horns that grow out of her head, alongside two much larger slightly curved horns that come out of the sides of her head, which appear to be cut off. She also has one pair of deformed fangs that usually stick out of her mouth, and her tongue is snake-like. For attire, she dons a slightly oversized pale purple t-shirt with ripped sleeves, alongside green shorts with ripped bottoms. She also wears yellow sandals. Her most distinct article of clothing is her two golden cuffs on her wrists, although those were removed by Zagan as of "The Phantom of the Theme Park." In "Trust Me," she wears a blue Pauline T-shirt that goes a bit off-shoulder with purple sunglasses.

personality

Courtney is a crass, insensitive, selfish, and fun-loving demon. She is first introduced as one of Temeluchus' underlings who went to seek out sacrifices as choices for the former to possess, having little to no care about what Barney and Norma have to say. At first, she doesn't care much about humans or their feelings, though, after Barney and Pugsley move into the park and get the job alongside Norma, she softens up a bit while learning more about humans. Despite appearing to not care about other people's feelings other than her own, she is shown to have a bit of empathy after she realizes she had upset Norma even more in "The Pauline Phoenix Experience," and during "Into the Fire," she fully emphasizes with Temeluchus, since both of them have been changed due to humanity. She even decides to stay with her friends rather than go back to Necropolis. Throughout the second season, Courtney has begun to show a more caring side, especially towards her friends. While she does remain insensitive, as shown in the episode, "Take the Angels Bowling," when she puts Pugsley down by calling him useless in her panic, she is also seen to be a bit emotionally unaware as well, considering the fact she wasn't aware of what tears were after having a small breakdown in "Evil Twins Are People Too." She is also cold and rude towards those she doesn't know and has the demeanor of a moody teenager.

power's/abilities

Abilities Immortality Courtney, like most non-human beings, is immortal. She can live forever, and cannot die. She also appears to age much slower than something like a human, as despite being over one thousand years old, she still looks quite young. Teleportation As an otherworldly entity, Courtney possesses some traits of Demons strangely, with one of her most iconic abilities being teleportation. It takes no effort and can be done at any moment, and unlike other Demons, who teleport in a realm of fire, leaving an aftereffect, Courtney simply "poofs," leaving behind a small cloud that resembles her colors alongside some angelic symbols following afterward. The only time she cannot teleport is if there's a barrier of some kind, such as the angelic barrier that surrounded the Prison on the fourth plane. No matter how much she tried, she couldn't teleport until the barrier was broken. Teleportation can also be used in a strategic manner, such as when Pugsley is falling from the Prison, Courtney teleports short distances quickly to catch up to him and successfully grab him. Another example would be when Temeluchus tried to injure Courtney during the Demon Invasion, with the latter dodging the attacks at the last second by teleporting. Fire Breathing Another trait she strangely inherits from Demons is the ability to breathe fire. She very rarely uses this attack, as it's only used once in "Into The Fire." Fire emits from her mouth and she is uninjured by the flames.

power's/Abilities (2)

Musical Talent (Temporary) Just like the other characters in "The Phantom of the Theme Park," through the use of Pugsley’s magical spell, Courtney possessed the temporary ability to break out into song at any given moment. She had her own solo number, "Down There," where she sang about how good it would be to go back "home," and had a part in "Phantom of the Theme Park," singing about how she needed to go home, and that she didn't belong on the neutral plane. The spell wore off at the end of the episode, and since then she hasn't sang. Courtney can also perform spells and other types of magic when reading the demonic book of spells, such as: Possession Soul Sealing

Trivia

Despite having they/them pronouns in the comics, Courtney uses she/her in the show. Hamish Steele explained this change was made to avoid the controversial "non-human, non-binary" trope and was persuaded to use the pronouns of her voice actress, Emily Osment when she was cast. He also believes Courtney is not strongly aware of gender anyhow, and would be fine with any pronouns. In "The Nightmare Before Christmas in July," it's revealed that she likes eating trash. There were a couple of hints of Courtney being an angel. Yellow particles would appear any time she poofs, just as they do when angel magic is done. In a line she sings in her song "Down There," she says, "I've read every book about demons", insinuating that she's never really been to Hell. In the episode Take the Angels Bowling, Fingers says that she's a superstar "upstairs" strengthening the clue of her being an angel Next to Pugsley, she is the shortest character in the main cast. Her larger horns can emote depending on how she feels. When Courtney possesses someone, her slit pupils and deformed fangs remain. In the episode "Norma Khan: Paranormal Detective," it's revealed that she has black-colored tears. She seems to be somewhat of a gold digger, as she hints at her type being "rich and hot" in the episode "The Pauline Phoenix Experience." In the episode "Trust Me," it was revealed Courtney had originally feared that she would never be able to return to Necropolis. In "The Phantom of the Theme Park," it is revealed that the cuffs she wears on her wrists - the ones stopping her from entering the Elevator - were put on her by angels and that she is not aware of this. In the episode "Going Up," it's revealed she is not a demon, but in fact, a "Fallen Angel," an Angels who have their halos broken off.

Phoenix Parks

Phoenix Parks is an amusement park and the titular location from the DeadEndia graphic novels, alongside the Netflix animated series, Dead End: Paranormal Park. It is owned and run by actress Pauline Phoenix. According to the map, the park opens at 5AM and closes at 8PM. Individual attractions also may have independent opening and closing times. The park, like most businesses, closes at different times if it's a holiday. In "The Nightmare Before Christmas in July," we learn that the park has its own holiday, Christmas in July. It's seems as if summer clothing and regular concessions are still present (except for Barney wearing a Star of David sweater). Decorations such as fake snow and pine trees, decorated as if it was Christmas, are present in the park. The park is split into six main sections, all based off of Pauline Phoenix's past movies and tv shows. The six main sections are Animal Avenue, Camelot Creek, Luna Lookout, Prehistoric Pavilion, Scare Square, and the Western Walkway. Animal Avenue The Animal Avenue contains three attractions, The Reptile House, Penguin Paradise, and various animal attractions, presumably petting-zoo-esque areas. It is unclear what film Pauline Phoenix appeared in that would have inspired this section of the park. Camelot Creek Camelot Creek also contains three attractions, Sir Logs-a-lot's Log Flume, Merlin's Cafe, and a Fairytale Cottage. Logan Nguyen works at the Sir Logs-a-lot Log Flume. Norma in the Deadendia comics refers to him as "Logs" because of his position at Camelot Creek and operating the log flume. The log flume is captioned as "The third largest log flume in the world!" The ride contains a large dragon statue which is used to "disguise" the camera. The head appears to be positional, but requires considerable force to do so. The Fairytale Cottage is captioned as "Our exclusive hotel - perfect for families and couples." Scare Square The Scare Square is where we see the titular attraction, the Dead End mansion.

Dead End

Dead End is an attraction located in Phoenix Parks, more specifically the star attraction of the "Scare Square". It is owned and run by actress Pauline Phoenix, and is the titular location from the DeadEndia and Dead End: Paranormal Park series’. Points of Interest The Elevator — A mysterious golden elevator that is housed in the lobby of the attraction. It is used to traverse the Multi-Plane in a legal fashion. Courtney’s room — Located on the third floor of the attraction, this is where Courtney keeps items of value to her, alongside generally living inside the room. Trivia In the show’s version of the attraction, Courtney’s window and the downstairs carpet have a subtle "DE" design, of course standing for, "Dead End". In the second season, it is revealed that there is a library alongside an attic, both locations also being in the graphic novel interpretation. The latter was also a key area in the web short.
