is a vampire but he can survive days without blood and nor does he have a certain urge to have blood he's like a vampire that doesn't really need blood but to strengthen his body he needs the Joestar's blood which is the reason why he wants to kill Jotaro. so he's perfectly fine without surviving with blood and he's different than most vampires.
