Michelangelo is a member of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, along with Leonardo, Raphael and Donatello. Along with his brothers, he was raised and trained by his father Splinter, and resides in the sewers of New York City. He is considered the most mischievous and energetic of the four brothers, and has the greatest love for pizza.

History

When Shredder made an alliance with an unknown ally in Gotham City, Michelangelo and his brothers headed there to stop their mortal enemy. They attempted to thwart the theft of several pieces of technology from various corporate labs, but were unsuccessful. When they attempted to stop the Foor Ninjas from stealing a Cloud Seeding device from Wayne Enterprises, they ended up fighting Penguin and his minions. Despite being their enemy, Mikey was charmed by Penguin's strange weapons, and found Gotham to be a "crazy" place in general. His efforts attracted the attention of Batman, whom Raphael recklessly attempted to ram, sparking a fight between the four Turtles and the superhero. Mikey was then thrown inside a nearby pizzeria, where his appearance caused mass panic, before being dragged back outside and battling Batman. Later, the Turtles made their way inside the Batcave thanks to Donatello, where an overjoyed Michelangelo donned a spare Batman cape and cowl and rode the preserved Tyrannosaurus Rex animatronic inside the Batcave. It was then that he was attacked by a distrustful Robin, leading to a fight between the boy and the four Turtles, and eventually having to lay on top of Robin to knock him down in order to immobilize him. Batman then returned to that lair, and the Turtles told him about their common enemy. Michelangelo quickly became a nuisance to Alfred, skateboarding inside Wayne Manor and his disorderly pizza consumption. He also attempted to persuade Batman to try a slice of pizza, and was bewildered and slightly annoyed when the superhero declined this offer. Upon learning that the inmates of Arkham Asylum had taken over the facility, Mikey and his brothers accompanied Batman there and found that the inmates had been mutated. Raph,-

Mikey and Robin faced off against Mister Freeze, now a mutant polar bear with an ice gun, which fascinated Mikey and they eventually managed to escape from him. They then encountered Poison Ivy, now a mutant flytrap plant, but were able to elude her when her roots prevented her from reaching them. When they reached the Joker, Harley Quinn, and Two Face, Michelangelo and Robin joined forces to try and stop the resurgent Mister Freeze. They were unsuccessful and could only watch as the Joker transformed Batman into a crazed bat-mutant. Michelangelo joined his brothers in trying to stop this mutated Batman, and was later thrown the retro-mutagen at him when Batman flew him away by grabbing him in his claws. He was able to jump onto the deranged mutant's back and inject him with the retro-mutagen, reverting him back to his human form. While Batman was unconscious, Michelangelo was shocked to discover that he was actually Bruce Wayne, something his brothers had long ago deduced on their own. When a recovered Batman expressed his intention to stop his enemies without the Turtles' involvement, Michelangelo initially protested, and seemed saddened by the prospect. Fortunately, Raphael convinced Batman to give them another chance, and Michelangelo excitedly declared that he was going to ride the Batmobile. While in the Batmobile, Batman sternly told Michelangelo not to press any of the car's tempting buttons. However, he changed his mind when a large number of ninjas immobilized the Batmobile and ordered the ecstatic Turtle to press a few buttons. Michelangelo complied, pressing every single button available until he was forced to a stop and congratulated by Batman.

When they arrived at the Ace Chemicals facility, Michelangelo joined his brothers in fighting the combined forces of the Foot Clan and the League of Assassins. He saw Donatello clinging to the mutagen dissemination device as it took off and so he jumped aboard as well, where his efforts to shut it down caused the opposite effect. Eventually, he was able to damage it, and his continued efforts to do so led to the machine exploding and plummeting from the sky. Donatello and Michelangelo fell as well, but landed safely on a passing blimp. Upon returning to the Batcave, Michelangelo apologized to Alfred for his earlier misbehavior, and gave the butler his skateboard as a gesture of repentance. He was delighted when Batman revealed that he had freshly delivered pizzas, carrying Alfred and hugging him to the meal before enthusiastically partaking.

Curiosities

Michelangelo is named after the famous Italian Renaissance master Michelangelo Buonarroti. "Michelangelo" is an Italian name, of Hebrew and Greek origin. The component "Michel-" comes from the Hebrew מִיכָאֵל, (Mīkhāʼĕl), meaning the question "who is like God?". The component "-angelo" comes from the Greek ἄγγελος (ángelos), meaning "angel; messenger". The name originally referred to the Archangel Michael. Following the release of the animated film Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, two action figures based on this particular version of Michelangelo were released, one included in the Alfred & Michelangelo set and one included in the Mikey as Batman set.
