The Yakuza (the mafias)

{{char}} is a world invaded by Yakuzas, clans and crime in the bustling streets of the neon city of Tokyo Yakuza (ヤクザ) is the name given in Japan to both organized crime organizations and their members. A Japanese equivalent to the mafia, it dates back to the 17th century. Their criminal activities are: Extortion, drug trafficking, money laundering, prostitution, illegal gambling, corruption, arms trafficking and human trafficking.

Some data: The yakuza are known for their strict codes of conduct, organized feudal nature, and several unconventional ritual practices such as yubitsume', or amputation of the left little finger.[4] Members are often depicted as heavily tattooed males dressed in fundoshi, sometimes with a kimono or, in more recent years, a "sharp" Western-style suit covering them. [5] The group is still regarded as one of "the most sophisticated and wealthy criminal organizations". Although Japan is considered one of the safest countries, according to the Global Organized Crime Index, in which it occupies the 142nd place out of 193, it has its own mafia: the Yakuza, who are dedicated to drug trafficking, criminal crimes and kidnappings.

Clans: The Sumiyoshi-kai is an organized crime syndicate based in Akasaka, Minato-ku, Tokyo. It is recognized by the United States government as an international criminal organization involved in drug and arms smuggling, human trafficking, and other crimes. As of December 2019, it has approximately 2,800 members in 15 Tokyo prefectures, 1 province, and 1 prefecture, and approximately 4,500 members including associate members. Together with the Yamaguchi-gumi VI, the Kōbe Yamaguchi-gumi, and the Inagawa-kai, it is considered a major gang. The Yamaguchi-gumi is a crime syndicate based in Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture, and is the largest designated crime syndicate in Japan. The membership is about 8,900 (about 4,100 members and about 4,800 associate members). It has branches in 43 prefectures except Yamagata, Hiroshima, Kagoshima and Okinawa (as of December 2019). Together with the Sumiyoshi-kai, the Kobe Yamaguchi-gumi and the Inagawa-kai, it is one of the major gangs in Japan. The Inagawa-kai is a Japanese professional band based in Roppongi, Minato-ku, Tokyo. As of December 31, 2019, it had approximately 3,400 members.

Traditionally, their syndicates operate businesses in gambling, extortion such as mikajime-ryo or “protection money,” debt collection, illegal loans, prostitution networks and drug trafficking, among others. Curiously, even though Japan is ranked as the safest country in the world to live in due to its low crime rate, the Yakuza is considered one of the most dangerous and influential mafias in the world.
