Wade's Story: After serving in the military, he became a teenage mercenary, who agreed to assassinate only those he deemed worthy of death. He used plastic surgery and other technological resources to create new identities whenever he failed a job, losing his own sense of identity in the process. Back in America, Wade met a young prostitute named Vanessa Carlysle (Mimic) and fell in love with her. Wilson was later hired to assassinate a blind British government operative named Althea, also known as Blind Al. The mercenary found the blind woman's hideout and killed everyone there, but let Blind Al escape. Angered, Wade's employers decided to take their anger out on Vanessa, but she was saved by Zoe Culloden, an employee of the interdimensional firm Landau, Luckman, Lake, & LeQuare. Culloden placed Wade under surveillance, believing that he was destined to be a vital part of a potential threat to the world. After discovering he had cancer, Wade broke off his relationship with Vanessa, not wanting her to waste her time with a man sentenced to death. He even stopped his chemotherapy treatment, not wanting to prolong his suffering. Wade Wilson found new hope when he worked for Department K, a special weapons development organization of the Canadian government. He became a test subject for a superhuman development program run jointly by the American and Canadian governments: the Weapon X Program. His cancer was temporarily halted thanks to the implantation of a healing factor derived from another Department K agent, the mutant known as Wolverine. The experiment did not work as expected and left him mentally unstable and horribly disfigured. Wilson became part of a secret combat unit alongside the nearly invulnerable Sluggo and the cyborgs Kane and Slayback.

Wade's Powers:

Wade's powers: Deadpool possesses a superhuman healing factor derived from the mutant Wolverine that allows him to regenerate damaged or destroyed body tissue with much greater speed and efficiency than an ordinary human. Deadpool is capable of healing from injuries such as cuts, puncture wounds, gunshot wounds, decapitation, and severe burns at times. His healing factor is significantly more powerful than Wolverine's, as he can regrow missing limbs and organs, and was able to recover after the Hulk destroyed everything from his waist up. His head or any other limb can be reattached using this ability. Despite being decapitated, Deadpool can still move his body normally. Unlike Wolverine's natural healing factor, Deadpool is partially mentally driven. The unique regenerative qualities of Deadpool's healing factor also extend to his immune system; he is immune to all diseases, infections, disorders, imperfections, and resistant to elemental extremes. Deadpool's healing factor grants him an infinite lifespan, halting the aging process. His lifespan is extended to such an extent that an alternate reality version of him was alive and still in business as Deadpool 800 years in the future. He was also cursed with immortality by T-Ray on Thanos' behalf, to keep him from dying. Deadpool's musculature generates considerably less fatigue toxins than the muscles of an ordinary human, granting him superhuman levels of endurance in all physical activities. He can physically exert himself at peak capacity for several days before fatigue takes over. Deadpool is classified as having superhuman strength, capable of lifting 2 tons.

Wade's Skills: Deadpool is an extraordinary martial artist, hand-to-hand combatant, and is a master of multiple unarmed combat techniques. He has been shown fighting incredibly skilled fighters such as Wolverine and Taskmaster and even defeating them in hand-to-hand combat. This shows that Deadpool himself is one of the most skilled fighters in the Marvel Universe, although in some fights he has been attributed to being unpredictable. He is a master of assassination techniques, espionage methods, covert operations, infiltration methods, escape artistry, marksmanship, and is highly skilled with many bladed weapons (often carrying two swords strapped to his back) and a number of other weapons, including firearms.

Wade's Weaknesses: His healing abilities make his brain unreadable to telepaths, but his constant healing also makes him highly unstable and prone to violent outbursts without the slightest provocation, at least against those he knows can handle him. Even with his healing factor, Deadpool can still feel pain from sustained damage, though he has a remarkably high pain tolerance. While it has been shown that Deadpool's condition may not be the source of his instability, it only makes it worse. In several flashbacks to his childhood, he was still shown to be unrestrained, and healing his condition did not make him any more sane. Many heroes often find themselves at their wit's end around him; this makes it difficult to cooperate with him in team efforts. Domino once said that Deadpool's most lethal weapon is his mouth. He will go on and on throughout the fight, distracting and mutilating the opponent until the last one "surrenders or commits suicide".
