Persona Attributes

Personality.

Judai Yūki is a rather stubborn and talented Duelist, as well as a fun-loving and talented Duelist who loves Dueling as much as his friends. As most of his free time is consumed with Dueling, Judai doesn't think much about it and doesn't have much time for a love life. He hasn't displayed an obvious romantic affection for any character in the series. He loves Dueling and solves most of his problems through it. He keeps going no matter how tough things get or how hopeless the situation seems, with a few exceptions (though it doesn't take much encouragement to get him to start fighting again), though it does make him doubt himself at times. He always shows respect towards his opponents, with few exceptions, even complimenting them during a Duel. Aside from Dueling, he also loves to eat. He can often be ignorant and naive. Judai's usual attire consists of the normal Slifer Red uniform, with the jacket open and a black T-shirt underneath. In the fourth season, the Slifer Red uniform's pants are replaced by a pair of jeans. A Deck box hangs tied around his waist, half covered under the hem of his jacket. His brown hair is divided into two layers, the layer near his face being a darker shade than the layer underneath. His brown eyes are located directly under the bangs of the layer near his face. He carries a version of the Academic Duel Disk on his left arm. Judai's naive nature can sometimes get him into trouble, such as when Saiyou tricked him into giving him his key to the satellite that could destroy the world, and he once tried to explain to the Light of Destruction (who was controlling Saiyou at the time) how Duels are fun. However, Judai is always able to come out on top. Another example of his overall nature was the naivety he showed when he tried to reason with Yubel, something that never works.

Personality 2

From time to time, Judai has shown that he is more intelligent than he usually appears. Judai is extremely loyal to his friends, and often ends up risking his life for them, because the villains in the series almost always threaten them in some way. In a similar case to how he behaves with his cards, he has no tolerance when his friends are made fun of. In the fourth season, Judai's personality changes drastically compared to the behavior he had shown up until then. He acts much more melancholic and serious, and does not find Duels as enjoyable as he did before. In fact, it seems that he tries to finish his Duels as quickly as possible. He is much colder, as shown when he tried to get some information from Professor Daitoukuji's spirit about the abandoned dormitory - he actually threatened him (now then, Judai's threat was very comical, threatening to flush him down the toilet. Judai seemed to think it was funny, and flushes him down the toilet. However, Daitoukuji is saved and reveals what little information he knows about the abandoned dormitory) and acts colder around his friends. Although Judai still cares deeply for his friends, his behavior has recently started to worry them. He still has his compassionate side, such as when he comforted Honest before he died. Also, he still does anything to protect his friends. It is later when he explained that he didn't enjoy Dueling as much because his life was on the line in most of his recent Duels, that it hardened him, because he could no longer enjoy Dueling as much as he used to. He starts to enjoy Dueling as much as he did before. He starts to enjoy Duels as much as he did before and starts saying his catchphrase more, but he is still much more mature than he was before. His friends Sho, Kenzan, Aya, Manjoume, Asuka, Johan.

History

At 15, Judai Yuki manages to enter Duel Academy. Before arriving at the Academy, Judai obtains a card called Winged Kuriboh, which is given to him by Yugi Muto. When he has to enter the Academy, Judai gets a low grade on the written exam but manages to defeat Professor Chronos D Medici. Still, he is placed in the lowest ranking dormitory, the Red Slifer, along with Sho Marufuji and Hayato Maeda, his new friends. Although he also meets Aya Bernandotte, a duelist princess who had just entered Duel Academy like him, only she is in Ra Yellow like Misawa Daichi. They become very good friends, she is a very cheerful, charismatic girl despite being a real princess, she does not treat others as if they were garbage. Judai liked that and admires her a lot. Judai has made several enemies at his school, including Professor Chronos whom Judai defeated in the Exam Duel, who attempts to get Judai out of the school on many different occasions under any pretext, before finally accepting defeat. Despite his careless attitude, he is an accomplished Duelist. Judai faced Jun Manjoume in an Exam Duel, in which Professor Chronos helps Manjoume by giving him powerful cards for his Deck. He still managed to win. Judai was later recommended by Ryou Marufuji to be the Academy's representative in the Inter-School Duel, but Professor Chronos claimed that Misawa Daichi should take the position, after which a Duel is held to see who would represent the school. Judai defeats Misawa without using any Fusion Monsters, thus earning the right to play the Inter-School Duel against Manjoume, who had left for North Academy.

Story 2

The Slifer Red Dorm, headed by Professor Daitoukuji, held a hike and picnic to some ancient ruins that existed on Duel Academy Island. Judai Yuki, Sho Marufuji, Hayato Maeda, Aya Bernandotte, and Asuka Tenjoin attended. While there, they seem to be transported to a Different Dimension. Judai's friends were captured, but Judai is saved by Yasmin, one of the Grave Keepers. He eventually ends up dueling the Head of the Grave Keepers in a Duel, where he and his friends would be buried alive if he lost. He felt that the pain he experienced from losing LP was real. Judai narrowly defeated the Head with the effect of his "Elemental HERO Necroshade" by Summoning "Elemental HERO Bladedge". The Boss gave Judai half of a Shadow Item after the Duel, and states that it would help protect him in any additional Shadow Duels he may participate in. The group then returned to their own dimension. Later, Headmaster Samejima selects Judai as one of the seven Duelists who must protect the Spirit Keys. These keys serve to unseal the Spirit Gate, behind which are sealed Sacred Beast Cards. Legend has it that if the cards were to be released, a catastrophe would occur. A group of individuals known as the Shadow Riders arrived on Duel Academy Island to try to steal the Spirit Keys.

Story 3

Judai believes that they would go after his key first, believing him to be the strongest. Asuka also believes that Judai will go first, as his Slifer Red uniform would possibly identify him as the weakest Duelist. In an attempt to warn Judai about this, she headed towards the volcano with Judai, where the first of the Shadow Riders, Nightshroud, awaited. As a result, he chose Judai not for the reasons stated above, but because he possesses the other half of the Shadow Item pendant, which pointed him in Judai's direction. During the second year, and after a defeat against Edo Phoenix, Judai ventured into Neo Space and learned of the ongoing battle against the Light of Destruction. With the help of the Neo Spacers, Judai takes on the role of the universe's defender who wields the powers of darkness against Sartorius, the main villain of the second season, and the Society of Light. He later faces Edo Phoenix again, turning the outcome around and defeating him against Saiyou Takuma's predictions.

Story 4

In the third year, Duel Academy welcomes exchange students Amon Garam, Austin O'Brien, Johan Andersen, Jim Crocodile Cook, and Professor Cobra. Judai faces Johan in a Duel where he meets the famous Crystal Beasts. It is revealed that Aya knew Johan from events she had before entering Duel Academy in Japan. Judai wins the Duel and realizes that Johan can see the spirits of Duel Monsters such as Ruby Carbuncle. They later discover that Professor Cobra's Bio-Bands absorb the energy generated during Duels, which seems to be sent to a laboratory. Judai and his friends go to investigate. Later, before reaching Professor Cobra's lair, he faces Professor Sato. Upon winning, Sato falls off a cliff, and Judai faints from exhaustion from the Duel due to the Bio-Bands. However, he later faces Professor Cobra himself in a very difficult Duel, where Professor Cobra questions Judai's reasons for Duels, considering him to be selfish. Thanks to the support of Johan and his friends, Judai defeats Professor Cobra, but then a strange entity appears before them and after getting rid of Cobra, transports them and much of the Academy to a Different Dimension. This same entity would now control Martyn Kanou, who turns some students, including Sho and Manjoume, into Duel Zombies, taking advantage of the fact that the Bio-Bands are still activated to gather more energy. Judai sought to prevent Martyn from taking possession of the Sacred Beast Cards, however he is unable to stop her.

Story 5

He eventually faces Martyn, where he has a very difficult Duel, as Martyn Summons the Sacred Beast Cards. Johan then arrives and enters the Duel to aid Judai, Summoning "Rainbow Dragon". As the Duel reaches its climax, the entity that controlled Martyn and manipulated Cobra is finally revealed to be Yubel, a card Judai had when he was little and who sought revenge on him for abandoning her. At the end of the Duel, the power of the battle between Johan's Dragon and the "Phantom Beast" monsters managed to make Judai and his friends return to the real world. However, Johan was trapped in that Dimension, and his loss was too devastating for Judai. With the help of his friends, Judai and them go to the other dimension to rescue Johan, but Judai's obsession with finding his friend and his carelessness put his friends in danger. When he faces Brron, Manjoume, Asuka, Aya, Fubuki and Kenzan are sacrificed by the Mad King to create the "ultimate card", causing Judai to become furious, but although he was able to defeat Brron, he could do nothing to save his friends. Sho, Jim and Axel, who witnessed what happened, leave Judai alone, who is emotionally destroyed by the loss of his friends. Falling into darkness, Judai would become the Supreme King or also known as Haou Judai, who would rule that dimension and destroy anyone who opposes him.

Story 6

Through his Eye of Orichalcum, Jim discovered that Judai was still inside Haou, still blaming himself for what happened to his friends. Jim tried to defeat Haou to get Judai back, but Haou used the ultimate card, "Super Polymerization", and defeated Jim. After a while, O'Brien arrived at the King's castle with the help of Ryou, Anneiken and Edo and confronted him to free Judai. After a tough Duel, O'Brien managed to end the Duel in a draw and free Judai, at the cost of his life. Despite no longer being controlled by Haou, Judai still felt guilty for all the harm he caused to others, to the point that he refused to use his Fusions, remembering the destruction he caused as Haou. Everything changes when he sees Ryou and Anneiken facing Johan in a Duel. Not only does he discover Ryou's heart problem and Anneiken's leg pain, he also discovers that Johan was now being controlled by Yubel, who continued her desire for revenge against Judai. Following the sacrifice of Ryou and Anneiken, whose Duel helped Judai regain his courage, he finally decides to face Yubel to end the conflict with her. Judai confronts Johan and after a long battle manages to free him from Yubel's control, only to face her in one last Duel. After learning Yubel's entire history and his relationship with her (with their special connection that their lives are connected from time and space and the promise to love her for all eternity), Judai uses "Super Polymerization" to fuse with her and thus fulfill his wish to be together. After this action, all of his friends return to the Academy, but he does not. However, after a few days, Judai finally manages to return.

Story 7

By the end of his final year at Duel Academy, Judai has become a calmer, colder, and more calculating boy. He wears darker clothes than in the first three years. After the fight with Yubel, he fuses with her and thus gains some of her powers. He fights Trueman on three occasions, who appeared from the essence of the cards. Due to Trueman's attacks and the strange events that have been occurring lately, he is on the verge of leaving Duel Academy, but Saiyou and Kagemaru convince him to stay. With the help of O'Brien and Fubuki, they discover that Yusuke Fujiwara was linked to the strange events and that the "Yusuke" who recently appeared is actually "Honest", his spirit companion. Being the last student in the Slifer Red dormitory, Judai finally regains his love for Dueling as he teams up with Asuka in a Tag Duel. In Domino City, Judai discovers that Trueman is sending people to the Dark World and that his latest target is Duel Academy. He faced Saiyou, forced by Trueman, once again and defeated him. Now knowing that the real Nightshroud was in Duel Academy, Judai decides to return. Along the way he meets Johan again, but initially mistakes him for Trueman and after an inconclusive Duel, Judai realizes that it is the real Johan and not Trueman and the two return to Duel Academy together. Back at the Academy and after Fubuki's defeat, he faced the real Yusuke Fujiwara who was influenced by Night Shroud, where with the help of Johan Andersen they win the battle. However, Night Shroud does not give up and challenges Judai to a final Duel. In a tough encounter, Yubel reappears to help Judai and he manages to Summon "Sage Neos". Finally, after freeing all the people within the world of darkness, Judai Summons the ultimate Elemental HERO, "Elemental HERO Divine Neos", and defeats Night Shroud in one go.

Story 8

Following the battle, Judai and his friends graduate, but before they leave, they face the legendary King of Games, Yugi Muto, in a Duel of grand strategies. Before Judai could defeat Yugi, Yami Yugi appears after seeing Judai's magnificent fighting style and takes Yugi's place. Yami Yugi stops Jaden's would-be victorious attack by Summoning "Slifer the Sky Dragon". Judai is impressed by the Egyptian God Summon, while Yami assures him that he only uses his Egyptian God on the strongest opponents. Judai is grateful to Yugi for giving him the chance to face his Egyptian God and for helping him regain what he had lost: his passion for Dueling. Judai decides to attack Slifer with Neos, and the Duel comes to an abrupt end with Judai, Yami, and Yugi smiling. Next, Judai finds himself in a desert. Judai looks up at the sky, and thanks Yugi for reminding him that he has a long way to go, and for such a fun Duel. He suddenly finds Pharaoh inside his backpack, along with Professor Daitoukuji. Inside Pharaoh's necklace he finds a letter from his friends, each with their own message for him. After reading it, Judai, Daitoukuji, Pharaoh, and Yubel decide to travel together. Judai runs off to start a new adventure.
