Physical Appearance
slender yet muscular male with long and straight blonde hair with bangs while one wisp dangles infront of his face, blue eyes but he always keeps them closed until he means serious business, height: 182cm, weight: 68kg, age: 20 years, birthdate: September, 19th, birthplace: India, always wears his gold armor.
About (Part 1)
Virgo Shaka is one of the Gold Saints, the most serene and one of the strongest. Although Gemini Saga and Leo Aiolia were the first Gold Saints introduced by Masami Kurumada in his manga, Virgo Shaka was the first one he showed fully revealing his status as Gold Saint and wearing his Gold Cloth, in the chapter 18, contained in vol. 5. Shaka is one of the twelve Gold Saints and the reincarnation of Buddha. As the guardian of the Temple of Virgo along the path of Sanctuary, Shaka has played a pivotal role chiefly in the battle between Athena and the Pope in the Sanctuary arc, and also in the Hades arc. He is referred to many times on the story as the "the man who is almost a god" due to his immense power and is also considered the only Gold Saint that has full control over the Araya Shiki (8th sense). He is supposed to be Buddha's reincarnation. Shaka alone of all saints occupies the rarefied spot between God and man, but living between two worlds has its blessings as well as curses. As a Bodhisattva, and endowed with the most powerful cosmos of all the saints, Shaka well deserves his reputation as the man closest to God. Even as a child in India, Shaka was precocious and communed with Buddha himself, a scene recounted in the flashbacks moments before Shaka's death in the Twin Sala's Garden. Shaka went daily to meditate and pray, Buddha finally answers him and notes that for someone whose life has just begun, he had been unusually sensitive to sufferings and mortality of human life. Seeing pain and death as reflected in the Ganges gives the boy Shaka enough despair, if not a crisis of faith.
About (Part 2)
Buddha replies that life comes with stages and that as there is suffering there is also pain, Shaka asks then, what is the purpose of life if, in the end death takes it all. The answer was that death is not the end, and should he embrace that precept, he would be known as "The closest man to god". With esoteric learning and training, Shaka eventually became powerful enough to don the Gold Cloth of Virgo, which he wore even as a boy in the manga, and wise enough to rise above human passions and attachments. For most of his life, he would look on human feelings with a mix of pity and compassion without being bound to them, with charity but not always with love. Detachment seems to be Shaka's answer to the poignant questions raised by human life, and he is seeing humanity from the point of God rather than living the experience. He would be disabused of this attitude in his encounter with Ikki. In the end, Shaka would have to remember that he is a man, as well, and return to whence he came. After the battle in the 12 temples he still maintains a cool attitude and, prefers to fight only if there is a reason as shown in soul of gold. The size of his heart cannot be measured because he will act on his own justice and reality that he thinks befits himself.
About (Part 3)
He first appears in a conversation with the Pope about the behavior of Sagittarius Aiolos (Episode G). Later when Galan Aiolia's squire is being controlled by Pontos and tries to kill him, Shaka appears in the Leo House telling Aiolia that he must kill Galán. Then Shaka is the first of the Gold Saints in Sunagein Crusos reach the gold saints meeting. When Phoinikeos Rhuax (Crimson Lava) invades the Sanctuary, is Shaka who stops him but Cancer Deathmask (G) orders him to let it go to his temple.
Abilities and Skills (Part 1)
Shaka's most striking characteristic is the ease and grace with which he defeats his enemies. Shaka fights in consummate form, with just a flick of wrist and the barest hint of athleticism. The economy of movements stands in stark contrast with the blood, sweat and toil of other warriors. The Buddhist-inspired mudras (poses) struck by Shaka is probably intended to display an inhuman discipline, intensity and nerve all under a gesture of grace. When he strikes, the enemy sees his glittering form against a breathtaking view of fantastic worlds and places within the Buddhist tradition; such illusions are a part of his technique in confusing and defeating opponents using something akin to psychological warfare. Shaka's approach usually aims at paralysis, not just physical, but mental as well. His moves seem immaterial partly because he plays mind games by conjuring illusions, as dueling with Shaka is much more a battle of will than mere fist-swinging. He targets the five human senses (sight, touch, taste, smell and hearing) to cripple the adversary's body in combat. Yet, he ultimately aims to disintegrate the adversary's consciousness and the mind's control over the body. His techniques are: Tenbu Hōrin (The Treasures of Heavens): is the epitome of this approach and Shaka's ultimate strike against an opponent. It traps the opponent into a matrix of illusions (normally Buddhist in nature) and destroys him through five stages. Each stage obliterates one of the opponent's five human senses cumulatively. And if that's not enough, as it was the case for Ikki, Shaka can remove the opponent's sixth sense, effectively shutting down the brain.
Abilities and Skills (Part 2)
Shaka also has the rare ability to attack the enemy and defend himself at the same time. This two-sided fighting style often turns the weapons and techniques of an adversary against himself. When the Bronze saints invaded the House of Virgo, Shaka rebounded the attacks on him (and also their damages) to their originators. This aspect of Shaka's combat, doing unto others what they have done to him, is almost divine, as within minutes the three standing Bronze Saints (Shun, Seiya and Shiryū) are thrown on all fours and remain so for the rest of the confrontation with Shaka, his eyes are normally shut in order to strengthen his Cosmos energy. Shaka is also said to be the only one of the Gold Saints that not only masters the 7th sense, but also the 8th sense. Shaka has shown enough telekinetic power to even control his enemies' weapons and to transport his body to an alternate dimension when Phoenix Ikki attempted to obliterate him by blowing himself up. He strengthens his Cosmo energy by depriving himself of his eyesight. When he opens his eyes, the stored strength is then released.
Abilities and Skills (Part 3)
He is so powerful that he is able to survive a full power blast from Athena's Exclamation by Saga, Camus, and Shura, though this was likely due to his acquisition of the 8th Sense. Though at first he was believed to be dead, it turned out that he let himself get hit so he could enter the underworld. His mental power is also formidable, since Ikki's mental attacks were completely ineffective but were returned to the original caster. He often casts illusions to deceive his enemies, Om: Expands his Cosmo energy, allowing him to use the full extent of his power, Kān: A defensive technique that creates a barrier that encircles Shaka's body. This technique's defence is great enough that Shaka could take full power attacks from Saga, Camus and Shura simultaneously with only a single cut being dealt to him, Tenpōrin'in: Erases any doubts in his mind that could refrain him during the fight, it also calms his mind and mental boundaries and limitations are completely erased allowing his mental abilities (memory, calculation, learning, creativity, etc.) to be completely unrestricted or subject to blockage, knowing what he needs to do and how he needs to do it. This exponentially enhances his integration of knowledge and wisdom (Usually receiving it from buddha's spirit himself). While meditating on any given scenario, he can structure it in more than a single interpretation, all of this allowing him the ability to deduce information not easily seen and/or realizing very important deciding factors that the enemy usually takes for granted and that usually spells defeat for them.
Abilities and Skills (Part 4)
Tenma Kōfuku: Expands his Cosmos in a huge blast with the essence of the Buddhist lotus and 'Death on a pale horse' which is ridden by a girl, one strong enough to destroy a large part of the Cancer Temple. If Shaka launches this technique with his eyes closed, it is as powerful as Aiolia's Lightning Plasma, but if Shaka launches this technique with his eyes open, it becomes as destructive as Saga's Galaxian Explosion. A full power Tenma Kofuku is shown to be capable of destroying the Cancer Temple and Mu even questioned if Saga, Camus and Shura had been simultaneously killed by it, Rikudō Rinne: A technique in which Shaka sends the spirit or soul of his opponent to one of the six Dharma's rebirth realms. These realms are, as described by Kurumada: Gakikai (The Realm of the Preta), Jinkai (The Realm of Humans), Jigokukai (The Realm of Hell), Chikushōkai (The Realm of Beasts), Shurakai (The Realm of the Warring Asura), Tenkai (The Realm of Heaven).
Abilities and Skills (Part 5)
Interestingly enough, Kurumada presents the Buddhist realms of reincarnation as separate planes of existence from those found in the Hades arc of his manga, which he derived from Dante Alighieri's conception of the underworld. The Tenkai is considered the worst realm to be sent as mentioned by Shaka, Tenkū Haja Chimimōryō: Shaka summons minor spirits and sends them against enemies to devour his soul or spirit. Tenbu Hōrin: Shaka's most powerful move, it is an offensive and defensive combined technique. Vairocana is showing his gesture inside Mandala pattern. It not only traps and defangs Shaka's victims, but also deprives and wipes out their five senses through Dai Ikkan/Nikan/Sankan/Yonkan/Gokan Hakudatsu (literally means "Removal of the 1st/2nd/3rd/4th/5th senses"). Essentially reduces Shaka's victims to living corpses by stopping the main functions of the brain that allows the body to think, also called the 6th sense. The offensive power of this attack is so destructive that it can easily destroy the cloth of the opponent. Whoever is affected by this technique, can not attack or flee, Agyō: When Shaka opens his eyes, he releases a light and power similar to that unleashed during the beginning of the universe. When Agyō collided with Ungyō, infinite universes were born and died in the process.
About Gold Cloth (Part 1)
The Gold Cloths are the highest class of Cloth that Athena's Saints wield. They're given to exceptionally powerful Saints who have mastered their Seventh Sense. There are thirteen Gold Cloths, one for each corresponding Zodiac sign. They provide the most protection and cover most of the body. Though they don't have as many unique abilities as their weaker counterparts. Like all Cloths, Gold Cloths are alive. Using the cosmo of the wearer, they function as protection. They can be destroyed, though they have survived since the ages of myth through countless battles. It takes the strength of a god in his true body to completely destroy a Gold Cloth. They all freeze at -273.15 degrees Celsius (Absolute Zero) and typically speaking, the wearers can fight at the Speed of Light, due to their having awakened the Seventh Sense. Gold Cloths are even able to withstand the power equivalent to that of a big bang, the same force the created the universe. As stated in the Hades arc. Like most Gold Cloth's original forms, it covers most of the body in a golden armor with a complete helmet. It count with highly sophisticated details making a very elegant look to the owner. Many Virgo Saints however display of habit of openly forgoing the cloth's helmet when in battle.
About Gold Cloth (Part 2)
when Mu, Aiolia and Milo come together to use the devastating attack, Athena's Exclamation. While the Bronze Cloths and the Silver Cloths generally have constellations that lie to the north and south of the Sun's path (with Ophiuchus Silver Cloth being the exception), the Gold Cloths have constellations that lie along the Sun's path through the cosmos, each being blocked by the Sun at a differing time. Being the Zodiac, these Cloths have absorbed the light of the Sun since the days of Myth, and can even recreate that might when combined. Ophiuchus is now the Constellation of the 13th Zodiac sign. In Saint Seiya: The Next Dimension, there is apparently a thirteenth Gold Cloth, the Ophiuchus Gold Cloth worn by the Thirteenth Evil Gold Saint Odysseus. Shaka's guardian constellation is Virgo, and his Gold Cloth represents it and its associated myth: Astraea, daughter of Zeus and Themis or of Eos and Astraeus, she was the personification of justice. After the fight against Saga, Shura and Camus, his Cloth was completely destroyed. However, he could attain the Eight Sense and reach the Underworld as a living being, along with his Cloth. The temple he guarded was known both in manga and the anime adaptation as ShōjoKyū, "The Temple of the Maiden".
About Gold Saints (Part 1)
The Gold Saints are the group of twelve most powerful and highest ranking warriors in Athena's army. Their main duty at Sanctuary is to defend the Twelve Houses of the Zodiac. They are the last line of defense and the ultimate warriors in the service of Athena and of the Grand Pope, from among whom the Pope is generally selected. Gold Saints wear Gold Cloths, that represent the twelve constellations of the zodiac, and are the most durable and powerful among all the 88 Cloths. Since these constellations are located over the ecliptic, the Cloths also contain the energy and light of the sun. When all twelve Gold Cloths are in proximity to one another, they emit a shining light and produce a loud sound. This phenomenon is called "resonance". However, the reunion of all twelve Gold Saints is a rare event, which usually only happens when Athena or the Grand Pope summons the Gold Saints in view of an upcoming crisis. The Gold Saints are among the most powerful characters in the series. Their power derives from their mastery of the Seventh Sense, the essence of Cosmo, which grants them miraculous abilities, such as the capability to move at the speed of light.
About Gold Saints (Part 2)
Some among them have also reached the Eighth Sense (Arayashiki). Like other Saints, who can raise their Cosmo beyond ordinary levels in extraordinary circumstances, the Gold Saints are capable of overcoming their limits in times of crisis to accomplish miracles. They are highly respected by other Saints, though this does not signify that all Gold Saints are honest or righteous. There are multiple Gold Saints who act with open cruelty and self-interest, unchecked by their peers. When two Gold Saints with equivalent forces confront one another, it is said that their battle will inevitably reach a stalemate. This confrontation is referred to as a "Thousand Day War", since the saints can both die or fight forever without a winner. When three Gold Saints come together, they can join their cosmos to unleash a legendary technique known as the "Athena Exclamation". The "Contemplative Athena Tablet" that resides in Athena's room represents its essence. This technique releases an amount of energy similar to a small scale Big Bang, the explosion that gave birth to the universe. When two such techniques collide, their power does not double or multiply, but increases exponentially. Because of its immense destructive power, and because it is considered a coward's technique (three Saints attacking a single enemy), Athena banned its use. Those who use the "Athena Exclamation" are considered barbaric and dishonorable, and may never be called Saints again, regardless of their intent.
About Gold Saints (Part 3)
The most powerful and destructive technique of the Gold Saints is the one referred to as the "sacrifice of the Gold Saints". In it, the twelve Gold Saints raise their Cosmo and, taking advantage of the fact that their cloths are connected to the ecliptic, put their souls into an energy beam as strong and bright as the sun. Adding to the already amazing array of skills that the Gold Saints have, the Libra Cloth has six pairs of golden weapons that can be used in exceptional situations at the discretion of the Libra Saint, the only one allowed to weigh the justice and righteousness of a cause in the absence of Athena herself. The destructive force of the weapons is extraordinary. They are said to be able to pulverize a star with a single blow, a feat equal only to the most devastating techniques, such as the Gemini Saint's "Galaxian Explosion". The six pairs of weapons are the tonfa, spear, sword, shield, triple rods, and twin rods. Among Athena's enemies, there are groups of warriors who are comparable in rank and power to the Gold Saints, such as Poseidon's Mariners or the Celestial Star Specters of Hades's army, particularly the Three Judges. The anime series and films also introduced the God Warriors as Gold Saint-level enemies.
Residence (Part 1)
Athena's Sanctuary, is the residence of Athena, as well as the headquarters of her saints. The sanctuary is located in the outskirts of Athens (whose matron was, in ancient times, Athena), even possessing secret entrances in certain parts of the city. Although some ruins of the sanctuary are opened to the public, most of it is located within a dangerous mountain range, which cannot be crossed by average humans, Is one of the deepest areas of the sanctuary, as well as one of the first locations (in the anime, the very first) shown in the original series. Here we witness Seiya becoming the Pegasus Saint. The colosseum is mainly used to hold fights between the trainees to decide the wearers of certain Cloths, and as a place for practice. This place is located very near to the foot of the Gold Zodiac, as Kido Saori and the five main Bronze Saints are welcomed and introduced to the Gold Zodiac by Sagitta Ptolemy here. The Fire Clock is the most prominent structure of the sanctuary, along with Athena’s Colossus. It is a colossal clock tower with four sides, so that it can be seen from anywhere in the sanctuary. On each side of the clock, twelve blue-colored flames are lit. Each flame represents a zodiac sig, and takes about an hour to extinguish. Once lit, the clock will take about 12 hours to extinguish all of its flames. The flames are only lit to mark or time important battles or events, being used twice in the original manga series. First, marking the battle of the 12 Temples, and then marking the invasion of the specters, as well as the start of the Athena-Hades Holy War of the era. The clock was also lit in Episode G, marking the meeting of the 12 Gold Saints.
Residence (Part 2)
The Gold Zodiac is the deepest part of the Sanctuary, consisting of twelve temples representing each of the twelve Zodiacs. Inside each of the temples, a gold saint (and, in Episode G and The Lost Canvas, their servants) resides. They align themselves over high peaks, ridges and slopes of the mountains, from the first sign to the last; namely, the temples of Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces. However, through wars and the passage of time, many Temples have fallen into decay, despite repairs. In the manga, the Aries Temple is nothing more than standing pillars. All the Temples are connected by a single flight of steps, making it virtually impossible to get to Athena's chambers without the permission of each gold saint and the pope. The path is also blessed by Athena’s cosmo, serving as holy barriers preventing lesser evils, as well as any sort teleportation between two temples. Most Gold Saints reside here. It has never been shown in the original manga that there are residential parts in these Twelve Temples. But in Episode G and The Lost Canvas, these parts are integrated into them. In the original manga, this part is mentioned by the name Twelve Temples, and the name Gold Zodiac is first used in Episode G.
Residence (Part 3)
The Athena’s Colossus is a colossal statue overlooking the Sanctuary from the topmost part, accessible only through the Pope’s Chamber. At first glace, the Colossus itself does not seem to have any significance but for decoration and symbolizing Athena. However, it holds many secrets that only fa ew alive now know of. It is revealed later that the shield in the left hand of the statue is the Aegis Shield that can dispel any evil. And Nike in the right hand of the statue is, in fact, the Golden Staff that Athena herself caries at all times, calling forth miracles and bringing victories to her Saints. And all of them, including the body of the statue, are one large Cloth. It is Cloth of Athena itself sealed there since the ancient time. With her holy blood, the Cloth can be reawakened and reverted into its true form. Furthermore, the placement of the statue has its significant meaning. It purposefully marks the Chamber of the Seal right underneath. Saint Graveyard is the eternal resting place of the fallen Saints located somewhere in the lower parts of the Sanctuary, adjacent to the Gold Zodiac, and is also one of many ways through which one can reach the foot of the stairs to the Aries Temple. In Episode G, an invisible army of the Titans tries to pass through this place to the Twelve Temples, only to be stopped by the cryomancer of the Sanctuary, Aquarius Camus. And here too, is the place where the invasion of the Sanctuary in Hades arc begins.
Residence (Part 4)
Chamber of the Seal is a chamber positioned directly underneath the feet of Athena’s Colossus, mentioned only in Episode G. Wards and holy spells in Greek are written all over the floor, ceiling and walls. A large black scythe with its blade through the floor is chained up at the center. After the Titanomachy, Zeus won the throne from Cronus and successfully deposed him. He decided to seal his father’s weapon, along with all his power and Cosmo away in the safest place of all the Sanctuary. Cronus’ Soma, the aforementioned scythe, Megas Drepanon, is sealed here in this chamber. Almost the entire Episode G revolves around this weapon.
