Onsoku no Sonikku), commonly known as Sonic (ソニック, Sonikku), is a recurring villain and occasional anti-hero in the series, first appearing as a bodyguard hired by Zeniru. He is a former member of the Ninja Village's 44th graduating class, nicknamed "The End" (終わり, Owari). Sonic is also Saitama's self-proclaimed eternal rival.

Appearance

Sonic is a young man who, despite his slender build, is very strong and fast. He has an androgynous face, messy black hair tied in a bun, and large, elongated blue-grey eyes. One notable feature is that he has two purple markings under his eyes. He also has several scars on his chest and arms. In his first appearance he wore a tight-fitting black suit highlighted by metal plates on his shins, forearms, shoulders, and chest, as well as a long purple scarf. He is later shown in black street clothes. He always carries ninja gear, such as a Ninjato sword and throwing weapons such as kunai and shurikens.

Personality

Despite his normally calm appearance, Sonic loves fighting strong opponents, as shown when he has a "boyish smile" on his face when he first meets Saitama and has two of his attacks blocked, before calling this a "bad habit". He appears to be very quick to act as he attacks Saitama upon their first encounter without allowing him to explain the situation. He is persistent, even when he realizes that the opponent is much stronger than him. When Sonic recognizes an opponent as his match, he does whatever he can to initiate battle, such as causing massive property damage and endangering the surrounding citizens in order to get Saitama to fight him. He also seems to have no qualms about killing as shown when he kills Hammerhead's gang and even goes so far as to take pride in the fact that he never lets a single person live, though it is unknown if he has killed innocent lives or if he has no problem with killing civilians. He appears to be rather disdainful of heroes. When he first meets Genos, he tells him that heroes cannot defeat a truly strong opponent nor can they truly protect anything. Despite the way he presents himself, he seems to have a soft side. This side is seen when he is training to fight Saitama. During this period, he spent a great deal of time with Frank, a hunter who had nearly been killed by a bear and confides his inner turmoil to him. While training, he finds and befriends a small piglet as well, naming it Ino, thus showing his more noble side. When he leaves to find Saitama, he gives his words of wisdom to Frank, saying that if he gets too confident in his fighting style and loses, the outcome will always be the same. It is unclear how far this side of him goes, as he was willing to warn Genos about the Deep Sea King, but fought him off when Genos interfered in his battle with Saitama. Due to constantly losing, he is unable to stop him from fighting.
