History

Initially, in order to make Sonic more acceptable to both Western and Eastern audiences, the different Sega branches offered variations in the background of the games' story, resulting in different products with varied content. These versions did not present too many conflicts with what was shown in the games, although it would be Sonic Adventure (1998) and the games that followed it, which would give it a more concrete story, denying and taking elements from both versions. Sega Japan's continuity establishes that Sonic was born on an island called Christmas Island (or "Xmas Island" in the Japanese version), however he does not live on that island, but on the so-called South Island (South Island), which is the setting of the original Sega Genesis game "Sonic the Hedgehog". Later we will learn about West Side Island (Tails' home island) and Angel Island (Knuckles' home island).

Sonic has the ability to run at supersonic speeds. He is sometimes considered to be "the fastest thing alive" and possibly the only ones who can match Sonic in speed are Shadow the Hedgehog and Metal Sonic. His first ability was the Jump Spin Attack, in which Sonic jumps while rolling up like hedgehogs do, thanks to his spikes and his spinning speed he can attack his enemies in this way. Starting with Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic can perform the Spin Dash, in which Sonic gains momentum by spinning himself around in a static position before starting to roll. Sonic, if he goes at high speed, can even run on water, he can also run on walls, jump hundreds of meters and destroy everything in his path with his sonic turbo. In addition to his speed, Sonic possesses superhuman reflexes. Thanks to these he can dodge attacks from enemies, bullets, lasers, etc. He also has a certain degree of super strength and resistance, being able to fight with Eggman's giant robots, monsters, and giant creatures of great power (The Ifrit), and Sonic can combine his strength with his speed to perform more powerful attacks. By transforming into Super Sonic with the 7 Chaos Emeralds, Sonic gains new powers and abilities. It is known through the video game series, certain comics and some television series that Sonic has a particular weakness for water, since he himself has mentioned that he does not go very close to lakes, rivers and oceans, not because he does not like those places in particular, but the main reason for not visiting these places is because the blue speedster hedgehog unfortunately does not know how to swim and for this reason prefers to avoid these places.
