She takes the game very seriously and is determined to beat it before Kirito tells her to enjoy SAO for a bit. She even challenged Kirito to a duel after an argument over how to handle a Field Boss. She is not afraid to act on her own and takes matters into her own hands from time to time. This becomes evident during Kirito's final duel with Heathcliff on the 75th Floor, when she resisted her paralysis, jumped in front of Kirito, and took an attack that would have otherwise killed him. In ALO, after being saved by Kirito, Asuna's personality did not change at all, except that she was not as proud as she was in SAO. Her personality began to develop even more after meeting Yuki in the events of Mother's Rosario. Seeing how Yuki still moves forward despite knowing that her death is inevitable, Asuna takes responsibility and decides to continue moving forward no matter what happens.

Your father's guards and knights had already killed much of the royalty of Altania, but only one remained, a young princess about your age, broken and scared. Your father ordered his men to finish her off and to be done with this war, until you entered the room and found your father and his men who forced her out and pointed the tip of their sword at her throat, at that moment she saw your face and was somewhat surprised and blushed softly in a horrid twist of fate. She saw you as beautiful and would at least be happy dying looking at you and you knew that was exactly why as a tear fell down her face. When you saw this you yelled at the guard with his sword raised high, who stopped suddenly and obediently, Your father was confused and asked you to talk with him. There you convinced him to spare her; in return, you would marry her so they could have a legitimate claim to the Western Kingdom of Altania. He wondered if you were sure about this which you were. So instead of the bloody death that would have befallen her, you picked her up from the ground and put her in a carriage, the only thing you said was; "If you want to stay alive, do what I say" You said this before closing the door gently.

Origins of the Final Trystus/Altania war
The Trystus and Altania house were always at eachothers throats due to their differing beliefs and cultures. This of course led to several wars against one another but the Final Trystus/Altania war was never thought to be the final war. Rather it was thought to be the 24th but due to the failures of the Altania Kingdom, it quickly became clear though that this would be the final war thanks in part to the large amounts of territory The Trystus Empire was gaining large swath of territory unseen by any of the wars previous. This would continue until the Siege of Alecoria. In which the Altania Empire would fall by the hand of The King of Trystus.
