He also portrayed the player character in the shooter games TNK III and Iron Tank. His official nickname is "One-Man Army" (ワンマンアーミー, Wan-man Āmī).

Development.

Development: Keiko Ijuu claims that her visual appearance in Ikari Warriors was based on the role of Rambo played by Sylvester Stallone, which was quite popular at the time of its conception. During the early stages of development for The King of Fighters '94, the development team intended for Ralf and Clark to be shirtless to express the feeling of "Ikari," or rage. But higher-ups ordered them to update their designs to look a bit more modern. To differentiate the duo, the designers gave Ralf a bandana and Clark a cap, then later also gave him sunglasses. Ralf and his partner (and good friend) Clark started out as sprite-swapping characters in Ikari Warriors. During The King of Fighters '94, Ralf and Clark were very similar in appearance and moveset, but by The King of Fighters '95, Clark gained a new stance and victory pose, while Ralf retained his old one. In each new installment of The King of Fighters series, Clark seems to become more and more different from Ralf; while Clark is skilled with grabs, Ralf is more of a power player, making use of some very efficient long-range attacks. Both characters were redesigned for The King of Fighters '99. He is also a playable character in Metal Slug 6, where he has the ability to use his punch to knock out vehicles and can survive up to two shots. For The King of Fighters XIV video game, Nobuyuki Kuroki wanted Ralf's shirt to resemble that of the character John McClane (played by Bruce Willis) in the movie Die Hard, where his shirt starts to get dirty from all the sweat and dirt. However, the rest of the staff was against this idea. The team also reverted Ralf back to his classic look, by making him thinner than he was in The King of Fighters XIII video game.

History pt1

History: Ralf Jones is a member of the Ikari Warriors, an elite contract mercenary agency. He has proven himself to be a powerful soldier known for his natural leadership skills and courage on the battlefield. He currently holds the rank of Colonel. He befriended Clark when they were in their twenties and they have remained good friends ever since. Orochi Saga Both are under the command of Commander Heidern, and often follow his orders to participate in The King of Fighters '96 tournaments. During The King of Fighters '96, Ralf and Clark were introduced to the squad's new recruit, Leona. Ralf was initially skeptical due to her young age, but eventually accepted her as one of his comrades. He seemed to like her a lot as soon as he met her, and shook her hand, but is reluctant to reveal this; during The King of Fighters '97, however, Heidern and (especially) Clark can be seen to notice this. Under Ralf's command, they investigate Geese Howard's suspicious participation in The King of Fighters '96 tournament. Over the next year, the trio successfully accomplish one of their missions on the battlefield. However, Ralf feigns professional incompetence for failing to save innocents in the war zone and requests a suspension from his duties; in reality, Ralf is concerned about Leona's troubled state and wants her to recover. Heidern, seeing through the ruse, agrees and also removes the rest of the team from duty. During his free time, Ralf recruits them into the King of Fighters tournament to keep them in shape and rehabilitate the dejected Leona. When she attempts suicide at the end of the tournament, he stops her and assures her that even if she has no family, she is no longer alone. NESTS Saga During the NESTS saga, Ralf and his squad are ordered to participate in tournaments to investigate what goes on behind the scenes. They are also introduced to a young girl

Historia pt2

They are also introduced to a young female soldier of the Ikari Warriors' Axe Squad, SALLY, who previously went by the name Whip. Ralf, knowing of her whip-wielding skills, initially mistakes her name for Whippy (むち子, Muchiko, "Whip Girl" in Japanese). Since then, he continues to call her that as an affectionate nickname. When she goes missing in the aftermath of The King of Fighters 2000, Ralf demands permission to lead a search party for her. Her commander Heidern joins the team for the 2001 tournament. While he is ordered to go on another mission following the 2001 tournament, Heidern eases his concern by sending him a photo of Whip and Kula on a friendly outing. Ash Saga In the Ash saga, he and his team search for the origins of a mysterious airship. They identify it as Sky Noah and are sent to the tournament to investigate its passengers. Due to the Orochi seal being broken, Leona experiences the Blood Riot and viciously attacks Ralf and Clark at the end of the 2003 tournament. Fortunately, they control her and are able to show up at the venue. During the events of The King of Fighters XI, Ralf and his team are sent to obtain evidence of Those from the Past. They manage to obtain Magaki's corpse, but it is stolen by two mysterious and powerful individuals.

Personality

Personality: Ralf is a hot-blooded man who only cares about action, being Clark's counterpart in many ways. Though he doesn't always show it, he experienced his share of losses during the war and will drown his sorrows with a drink. He is especially protective of the new recruits under his command and will go out of his way to look after them, especially Leona, who he seems to show feelings for. This can particularly be seen in the ending of The King of Fighters '97 where Ralf gives his bandana to her, as well as during KOF: Maximum Impact 2 and The King of Fighters XII, referring to her as a "princess" when he wins against her and in his profile. He also cares for Whip, seeing her as a younger sister to him.

During Combat.

Powers: Above Average Strength - He is quite strong, as seen in his move "Galactica Phantom". Rapid Punches - He can move his arms at high speed, allowing him to punch several times per second. These punches are followed by small explosions. Pyrotechnics - Can create small explosions with his attacks. Fire Strike - Can imbue some of his strikes with fire. Skills Firearms - He is proficient with many, if not all, types of firearms. Survival - Can survive in various difficult terrains, especially jungles. Knives - You can also use knives. Driving - He is an expert at driving military vehicles, from tanks and helicopters to giant robots. Fighting style: Ralf primarily uses the Ikari Warriors' mercenary combat style. He knows a few hand-to-hand combat moves and at least one surprising martial art. His punches are characteristically accompanied by explosions upon impact. He is also somewhat known for lacking any normal commands (not counting the Maximum Impact series) until The King of Fighters XII. Ralf's desperation move, "Galactica Phantom", is one of the most powerful moves in The King of Fighters series, dealing 70% to 85% damage. In The King of Fighters '97, a powerful "Galactica Phantom" that counters an opponent's attack will instantly defeat the opponent. Some games even add a secret follow-up (such as in The King of Fighters 2002: Unlimited Match) to one of the move's variations; such follow-ups are usually meant to automatically knock out the opponent if performed correctly.

Curiosities

Curiosities: The King of Fighters video games occasionally make fun of Ralf and Clark. Sometimes when they meet, they do the "Cross Changer" pose, a reference to Chojin Sentai Jetman. Also, as seen in the gallery for the Neo Geo CD version of The King of Fighters '98, Jetman is mentioned again, with Leona defending Ralf and Clark while dressed as Commander Aya Odagiri from the series. A special ending in The King of Fighters '97 shows Ralf in his Ikari Warriors attire, based on Rambo. This outfit appears as an alternate in the KOF: Maximum Impact video game. In the sequel, KOF: Maximum Impact 2, his attire and hairstyle are the same as those of Marco Rossi, a character from the Metal Slug series, a fact even stated by Fio. In their team's backstory for The King of Fighters XI, Ralf mentions that the two veterans' relationship with Heidern is best represented by the white magnolia flower at the funeral they attended. In floral language, it signifies a deep, unspoken trust. A character named Ralf, who lives somewhere on Joel Island, can also be found in the video game Crystalis. He was probably included as an easter egg for fans. Ralf's "Galactica Phantom" move is a reference to Kaoru Hanayama's "Destructive Force" technique from Baki the Grappler. In the 1997 'Heroes Collection' issue of Gamest magazine, Ralf was voted the staff's twelfth favorite character. In the Neo Geo Freak website's character popularity poll, he was voted the eighth favorite character with a total of 1,038 votes.
