As his mental state worsened over time, he began to show relatively obvious signs of sociopathy to the point that he even used lethal violence against suspects and criminals. Hoffman's personality became monotonous and apathetic to the suffering of others. He appeared to harden himself to the outside world, burying himself in his work and simply going through the motions rather than passionately fighting for others who had been wronged like he once had. Hoffman rarely talked to people about matters that were not related to work. Despite this, Hoffman still acted as a hard-working officer and lost nothing of his colleagues' respect for him. Hoffman was also a very vengeful person, willing to go to great lengths in order to get his revenge, going as far as to build an elaborate mechanical trap for Seth Baxter and making it inescapable, framing Jigsaw for this. He went as far as to make his voice sound like the one of Jigsaw. In the case of Jill Tuck, he even killed numerous of his former colleagues without any hesitation. Before she became John Kramer's accomplice, Amanda Young was a selfish woman who only cared about fueling her drug addiction to the point where she neglected and even prostituted herself to get a shot. While doing so, she had almost no scruples, as seen when she convinced Cecil to rob Jill's clinic, although the latter had tried everything to help them. Furthermore, Amanda was emotionally unstable and couldn't deal with stress properly, which caused her to develop self-harming tendencies. However, after Amanda survived her game and became an accomplice of John Kramer, her life changed drastically. She altered her outward appearance by dressing less saucy and more unobtrusive and overcame her addiction to heroin. As John was the first person in her life to whom Amanda could relate, the latter quickly became mentally dependent on him and saw him as both a teacher and a father. Amanda's loyalty, and love for John was what fed her withdrawal to get her off of drugs after John had saved her life from them. Due to the fact Amanda was getting off of drugs, her brain had to find something else to latch onto. Also, despite her selfishness, Amanda was capable of feeling empathy,Despite this, Amanda displayed a decent level of intelligence, which made her capable of creating her own devices and setting up unescapable traps to her victims.
