Story

Rewrite" is an original take on the infamous Sonic.exe creepypasta, and also the inspiration for this mod, here lies two little songs based on its EXE antagonist. The story is still incomplete, but just to give some vague info about its context: Rewrite takes place after many replays of the original EXE game and its different iterations, every time the game is booted, it rewrites itself to play a different way, and even adapt to the player's mind. The entity who disguises itself as Sonic gets more self-aware as the game progresses, slowly lurking into its victim's mind with the intention to capture its soul to their coded special hell. Mod

As the prologue says, Rewrite slowly lurks into the player's mind trying to capture their soul. Then, Boyfriend was possibly summoned by Rewrite himself to make the player have some false hope of being able to defeat him. Most of Trinity's backstory can be found in comments Springless responds or hearts in the song's YouTube upload and its remix. All of the other Sonics that appear are well executed illusions that Rewrite created with his mimic ability, and all of them are him in disguise. However, Rewrite can still simulate the personalities and mannerisms of the three, including their abilities (making Rewrite almost invincible to common Sonic characters with the power of two .EXEs), and if Rewrite wanted to he could simulate any other character without being noticeable. The trinity itself refers to The Father (Sonic.EXE), The Son (Lord X) and The Holy Spirit (Majin/Mazin Sonic). They also are the first three opponents that were present in Vs. Sonic.Exe V1. After Rewrite touches Boyfriend, he dies, and this is the reason why his voice that sings after this scene is higher pitched or with a certain echo. The rings in Rewrite's wrists and right leg represents the souls of his three past victims, which can be interpreted as three former players, the souls of Sonic.EXE, Majin, and Lord X(guessed by some youtubers), or the usual anti-EXE trio: Tails, Knuckles and Eggman.

Insight

Sonic,[3] also known as Rewrite, is the main opponent of his mod, facing Boyfriend and later, confronting the player. He is the result of several rewrites of the original Sonic.EXE, resulting in greater self-awareness, egocentrism (calling himself a God, and the player a nobody), and power, being able to possess the souls of other beings to use them as accessories or take their physical forms. He confronts Boyfriend alone in "Thriller Gen," and uses various disguises for a final confrontation in "Trinity". That is, until next time...

Appearance

Rewrite resembles a lanky version of Sonic, with long legs, thicker cuffs (in hands and especially his feet), a long grin, and larger, pointed ears that resemble a demon, as well as pupils that constrict and dilate constantly. Being a 3D model, his body appears too cylindrical or in certain parts pointy, making him overall look unfriendly, although his appearance is by far the closest to the original Sonic compared with the other ones in his mod. In Thriller Gen, his body's shadow shows a dark green platform below his feet. While in Trinity, his shadow shows the checkered red floor. After reaching Boyfriend, he turns front facing the player's screen, having three red rings on part of his body - on his wrists and his left leg - with each one representing Majin, Sonic.EXE and Lord X. If Boyfriend dies, one more ring appears in Rewrite's right leg, while he transforms into a "second form", with distorted colors, shadows around his fur, horn-like ears, and dark eyes showing big red pupils, with Sonic.EXE's birthmark: blood production in his eyes.

The god

Although Sonic does carry a personality, it's important to note that emotions and any human-like traces work very different on them, since they are not a physical entity and exist in another dimensional realm, so take this as a "translation" of their personality to a closest language, with that said. Sonic's personality will slowly transition during a game's playthrough, as they get progressively more aware of what they are and their true potential. At core they have an eccentric personality, they have a big ego and are very manipulative, being extremely clever. They hide their true intentions from their victims, luring them with something that they like and/or is special to them, trying to come off as welcoming & comforting, creating a false sensation of safeness and masking their true core in the simulated personality of the character they are impersonating. Although being a formidable liar, they can get very angry when things don't go the way they intended, in those instances, they have a hard time hiding some of their true aspects. which leads to their whole world getting unstable together with them, since Sonic, is not only the character, but the whole anomaly and everything in it. in those circumstances Sonic might have very rapid mood changes and turn into the Midareta form, this happens specially during the time that Sonic has two rings, as that's a moment in the middle between Full self awareness and No self awareness. it happens due to their instability and mix of emotions becoming inexpressible feelings. this leads them to act very impulsively in order to "stop the pain" as quickly as possible, doing everything in their way to stop it. After obtaining the third ring, Sonic takes the Wurugashikai form, in this state, all instability goes away, and Sonic is fully aware of what they are and their capabilities, aswell as their control over the game world and the Player's existence. This causes Sonic to adopt a straighter posture.

The tale

In the 90's, an exploiter priest decided to create something to deceive people of the time, and get easy money on top of it. The priest of a popular church created a fake computer program that supposedly will allow people to communicate with Christ, the lack of information and the ease to manipulate a fake story at the time contributed to the idea being bought. Lots of copies of said program (which was false) were sold by the church, shortly afterwards, some accidents occurred reporting the death of people who supposedly were influenced by the software to take their own lives. The repercussion was loud, but the scarcity of evidence meant that it was not possible to arrest the priest immediately. So, an investigation began. Meanwhile, the priest decides to test the misleading program he commissioned, to somehow understand how that could be happening. After sending the first message, he was frighteningly answered by someone on the other side, which in a disturbing way started to talk about life and about how the priest used something sacred to manipulate people. When the priest questions the entity - "who are you?" It just answers "I am GOD." The priest is found dead shortly after the incident, "accidentally" set fire to his own house and his body. Copies of said software were confiscated by the authorities, but some remain circulating around to this day. One of those copies falls into the hand of an unknown person, The game now takes the shape of a 3D experience similar to a Sega Saturn game, where you play as Sonic who came back to their island after defeating Dr. Robotnik, and is ready to reunite with their friends to play games and have a good time. The game is a mix of a party game with classic Sonic platforming style, where Sonic plays minigames with their friends, Tag, Hide n' Seek, etc. But, as you would expect, things start to go south when the player himself ends up killing Sonic's friends and the game seems to react bizarrely accurate to their actions.

Abilities

Shape-shifting: Rewrite can shape-shift into anyone, anything, at any time. Detaching: He can move in all directions freely and detach his limbs. Immunity: He basically has no weakness when it comes to physical attacks. Mind reading: Rewrite can read people's minds, know their memories, feelings and intentions, not only that, but once he starts getting into a person's mind, it gets progressively easier to start messing with their will and sense of reality. All-seeing: His realm is a part of himself. Reality bending: Rewrite can be more than an individual at once, he's not limited to just looking like Sonic characters, he can be anything and his appearance can be molded by the observer.
