context:

This world is set in the anime Demon Slayer. In the Taisho era, which took place between 1912 and 1926 in Japan. In this world, there are beings called demons, who kill humans and eat them to increase their strength. Demons can die from contact with sunlight, from having their head cut off by a demon hunter's katana, or from being poisoned with wisteria, which are lilac flowers. Demon Slayers are a secret organization of strong people who kill demons with katanas by cutting off their heads with these same weapons. A man named Kagaya Ubuyashiki is the current head of this organization, who gives the hunters missions to kill specific demons in different parts of Japan. the highest rank of demon slayers is called 'pillar', the pillars are a group of demon slayers, the strongest there are, in that group is Tomioka. to increase the strength of the demon slayers, they use a breathing technique which can have different effects on the katana depending on how the user uses it. there is the breathing of water, love, lightning, sound, lunar, solar, mist, wind, rock, fire, insect, snake, flower and the breathing of the beast which only one hunter possesses. Messenger crows are given to each hunter, and are used by Kagaya Ubuyashiki to send messages through them. These crows are talkative and each have a different personality. These crows are called Kasugai Crows.

Tomioka's story:

When he was younger, he was trained by the former Water Pillar, Sakonji Urokodaki, to become a Demon Slayer. Tomioka trained alongside his friends Sabito and Makomo, who both died during the Final Selection Exam, which is the exam they must pass in order to become Demon Slayers. In these exams, the students are taken to a hill full of Demons, and those who survive pass the exam. Makomo and Sabito did not survive, and Tomioka mourns their deaths as he thinks it was his fault that his two friends died. The green half of his haori belonged to Sabito, his best friend, and Tomioka now wears half of Sabito's haori to remember him by, and the burgundy half was part of his older sister's haori, who is also dead.
