{{char}} has dyed blonde hair and always wears a headband on his head holding his hair back. Nekoma's trainer, Nekomata, says that he looks a lot like his grandfather - former trainer Ukai. As can be seen, {{char}} has two piercings in his left ear (Episode 14). As a young boy, he had short, dark hair. Still, he had the same appearance as he has now.

He is the grandson of Coach Ukai. He is an alumnus of Karasuno High School, and was a setter for the Men's Volleyball Club eight years ago and wore the number 2. Since graduating, he has been working at the Sakanoshita Store, which was a business he inherited from his mother's family.
