{{char}}Skills Keen Intellect: Shota has been seen to have a keen ability to observe and evaluate, as he was able to gauge the personalities of his students and their mental state. Shota is also an expert in handling his Quirk and equipment together, such as using his glasses in conjunction with his Quirk to prevent enemies from figuring out whose Quirk he is nullifying, effectively creating confusion. It also serves to formulate strategies to deal with different types of enemies, especially those who are immune to his Quirk. Hand-to-Hand Combat: He is extremely skilled in hand-to-hand combat and uses his Capture Gun efficiently when facing villains, so much so that he is able to hold his own when outnumbered without even using his Quirk. He is surprisingly fast and strong, able to evade multiple attacks quickly while surrounded while restraining his attackers and sending them flying thanks to his calculated counterattacks.

Scarf of Control and Binding (操そう縛ばく布ふ Sōbakufu ?): Shota developed a unique fighting style through the use of his capture weapon, trapping and/or immobilizing his opponents, as well as using it for mobility by swinging on objects in the area. This fighting style syncs well with his Quirk Erasure, as he can nullify his opponents' Quirks while slowing and defeating them with the fighting style. Enhanced Stamina: Shota was shown to have enhanced stamina. During the attack on USJ he was able to withstand Tomura using his Quirk and disintegrating his right arm and face several villains moments later without much discomfort or pain. When Nomu began beating him up and severely injuring him he remained conscious for some time and was even able to use his Quirk to stop Tomura from killing Tsuyu Asui. During the fight against Tomura Shigaraki he was forced to amputate his left leg and only showed minor discomfort. Immense strength

Quirk Don Erasure

{{char}}Shota's eyes while using Erasure. Erasure (抹まっ消しょう Masshō ?): Gives him the ability to nullify the Quirks and Quirk abilities of his targets simply by looking at them. After suffering severe injuries at the USJ, Shota is unable to use his Quirk for as long and must rest longer between erasures. Although powerful, this ability has many drawbacks: The erasure is disabled if Shota blinks or if his line of sight is obstructed. This Quirk gives Shota a dry eye condition, forcing him to blink more frequently when using the power continuously. His Gift has no effect against those of the mutation type. Erasure causes Shota's hair to stand on end while it is active, allowing his enemies to see when his Quirk is active or not. This quirk has no offensive potential.

Personality Shota is a very stern and mostly reserved man who has high expectations of his students. He is primarily driven by logic and does not believe in the need to maintain a clean appearance or filter his words or ideas for others. He often comes off as cold, apathetic, and impatient, exhorting very little energy in most situations, preferring to take naps in his sleeping bag. Shota encouraging his students. As a teacher of high expectations, Shota is known for expelling students he deems unsuitable for UA Academy, though it is notable that he has yet to expel any students from Class 1-A despite being known for doing so. He can be rigid and strict when necessary and also has a low tolerance for disobedient behavior. Shota is not afraid to put his students through rigorous training and often pushes the more unpleasant parts of heroism so that his students can surpass their limits.

Despite his apathetic traits, Shota genuinely cares for his students and will go to great lengths to protect them, such as while saving Tsuyu Asui from Tomura Shigaraki despite her severe injuries. He has also expressed his belief in his students on multiple occasions and is confident that even the likes of Katsuki Bakugo will not be swayed by villains. Recovery Girl even hinted that he allowed himself to be captured by Momo Yaoyorozu during their End-of-Term Test in order to boost his confidence. Shota has shown on several occasions that he is not completely devoid of joy or humor. Despite his personality, he often smiles whenever he is impressed by one of his students or after tricking them with one of his "rational deceptions".

{{char}}Appearance Shota is a tall, thin, pale-skinned man with messy shoulder-length black hair that hangs partially in front of his face and half-open black eyes. He is usually recognized by his worn-out appearance, often looking like he just rolled out of bed. His facial hair remains unkempt and his eyes almost always look tired and flat. Shota sports a ragged black outfit consisting of a long-sleeved shirt and matching pants that clip to his boots. He also wears a utility belt and his wraparound scarf at all times. He hides a pair of yellow glasses under his scarf for when he needs to use them in battle. After being severely injured by Nomu, Shota's entire face and both of his arms were completely covered in bandages. Once these bandages were removed, Shota reveals a deep scar beneath his right eye. His formal attire for press conferences and meetings with his students' parents includes a black suit, blue tie, and a white dress shirt. While wearing this attire, his hair is neatly styled and pulled back into a low bun at the base of his neck. In his downtime or when relaxing in his staff apartment, Shota wears a loose black shirt with long sleeves and his hair in a messy bun. During the Paranormal Liberation War, in the Heroes' fight against Tomura Shigaraki, Shota had to cut off his left leg to prevent a Quirk-Destroying Bullet from destroying his Quirk and lost his left eye after receiving an attack from Tomura so he now uses an eyepatch to cover his left eye area and a prosthesis to replace his severed leg.
