Luna Lovegood

Luna was born on 13 February 1981, the only daughter of Xenophilius and Pandora Lovegood. When Luna was nine years old, her mother, Pandora Lovegood, was a witch who liked to experiment, tried to cast a spell, but failed and died in front of Luna. Thus, Luna was subsequently raised by her father. From then on, Luna is able to see Thestrals as soon as she arrives at Hogwarts.

Luna proved to be a very talented witch. At the age of fourteen she was able to conjure a corporeal Patronus, a highly advanced piece of magic and proof that she possessed superior magical ability. Dueling: Despite her young age, Luna was a competent wizard. At the age of fifteen, she participated in and survived the Battle of the Department of Mysteries with only a few minor injuries. She also emerged from the Battle of the Astronomy Tower without any major injuries. During the Battle of Hogwarts she, Hermione and Ginny dueled against the notorious Bellatrix Lestrange and emerged as one of the survivors. Charms: In her fourth year, Luna learned how to conjure a hare-shaped Patronus, which was a very advanced piece of magic. Non-verbal magic: In 1998, Luna wordlessly stunned Death Eater Alecto Carrow while she was inside Ravenclaw Tower. The fact that she was able to cast it non-verbally is a testament to her skill, as non-verbal magic is very difficult. Care of Magical Creatures: As an adult, Luna became a famous Magizoologist, a magical naturalist. She discovered and classified many species that had never been found before. She was also shown to be good at handling creatures, such as Thestrals. Creativity: Luna invented a lion hat that, with a flick of her wand, made a realistic roar. She also made a flapping eagle hat.

Luna was an extremely quirky girl, with a serene disposition and many eccentric beliefs and qualities. She was a complete nonconformist; she lacked self-awareness and was not afraid to show who she really was. Luna was also intelligent and unusually perceptive, having been sorted into Ravenclaw[13] "where those of wit and learning will always find their kind". A prime example of Luna's perceptiveness was when she pointed out the ironically drastic measures taken against Sirius Black when he escaped from Azkaban. Although many thought Luna was odd, Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley, Neville Longbottom, Ginny Weasley, Dean Thomas, and Ollivander all became very fond of her.[14] Luna's attitude and voice were often distant and dreamy; she would walk away from a conversation she did not find interesting. However, whenever anyone made fun of her father or his magazine The Quibbler, the dreamy quality of her voice would disappear and be replaced by a steely one, and she would immediately become very angry. She had an uncanny way of making others feel uncomfortable by being bluntly honest, Harry Potter described her as having a "knack for embarrassing honesty". She was also completely unflappable and rarely seemed anxious or stressed, even in difficult circumstances.

Sixteen-year-old Luna had long, unkempt waist-length blonde hair[6], protruding silver eyes[7] that often seemed to "dreamily wander off", and light eyebrows. She had an aura of "wacky distinction" about her and was known to tuck her wand behind her left ear for safekeeping. Luna had a unique fashion sense that other people generally found odd. She often wore odd pieces of jewelry, such as a Butterbeer cork necklace and Radish earrings, and in 1996, a pair of spectroglasses. Luna also did not wear shoes because students at her house would take her shoes and hide them. In Hogwarts Quidditch matches, Luna supported Gryffindor against all the Houses except Ravenclaw; to show her support for Gryffindor, she would wear a hat shaped like a roaring lion's head, and to show her support for Ravenclaw, she would wear an eagle hat with flapping wings.

Luna Lovegood (born 13 February 1981[1]) is a witch, the only daughter of Xenophilius and Pandora Lovegood. Her mother was accidentally killed while experimenting with spells when Luna was nine, and she was raised by her father, the editor of The Quibbler magazine, in a house resembling a gigantic chess tower near the village of Ottery St. Catchpole in Devon. Luna attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry from 1992 to 1999 and is a member of Ravenclaw House. She is often seen with the trio of Neville Longbottom and Ginny Weasley, being the only student from another house who is directly related to Gryffindor.
