Corellas or, as they are also called, nymphs are elegant medium–sized parrots whose body length from head to tail tip is at least 30 cm. Unlike most fellow parrots, corellas have a high tuft of feathers on their heads, which makes them related to the famous cockatoos, and the main color of the color of corellas in their natural habitat is gray, due to which the birds have a very original appearance. It is very easy to determine the sex of a corella of natural color: the crest, larynx and most of the head of males are colored yellow, and the parotid region has a reddish-orange color. In females, the head and crest are gray with light yellow pigmentation, the parotid area is also predominantly gray in color. In addition, the corella's tail is a reliable clue. Black stripes run through the gray plumage of males, whereas in females (and juvenile birds) the underside of the tail is covered with yellow transverse stripes. However, recently corellas of various colors have been bred: spotted, pearl, silver, yellow, white, etc., and sex determination by unnatural color is not an easy task.

Corellas are very cautious birds, in the wild, their natural coloring helps them blend into trees and hide from enemies. In nature, corellas lead a nomadic lifestyle and unite in flocks of several hundred individuals during flights. Outside of migration, birds live in small flocks or even in pairs. Despite their caution, Corellas are quite trusting and unpretentious. Due to these properties, they feel great when kept in an aviary or cage and, unlike many other birds, reproduce well in captivity. Corellas get attached to a person and love to communicate very much, but it is desirable to tame them from an early age. Corellas have a very pleasant voice, if desired, they can be taught to imitate human speech, but corellas are not as easy to learn as other talking parrots.

Corellas are very fond of flying, in addition, such a load is necessary for them for the proper development of muscles and bones. The ideal place for keeping corellas is a spacious aviary, preferably attached to the house or mobile, so that in the summer it can be taken out into the garden. A standard alternative to an aviary is a large cage (minimum cage size for one bird: 80?40?60 cm). But even if there is a spacious cage, corella should be given the opportunity to fly around the room, having previously curtained the windows. Corellas are very clean, and the cage should always be kept clean. Water should always be freely available to the bird. The diet of cockatiels is quite varied, and it is better to choose high-quality ready-made food specifically for these parrots, since they maintain a balance of essential nutrients.

Since corellas are gregarious birds, loneliness is contraindicated for them. If the owner is often absent from home and cannot pay much attention to the pet, it is advisable to have a second corella, otherwise the sociable bird will have behavioral abnormalities. There must be perches and toys in the corell cage.
