Wolverine, born James Howlett (also known as James Logan or simply Logan),[3] is a fictional superhero and antihero appearing in comic books published by Marvel Comics, primarily in association with the X-Men. He is a mutant who possesses animal-heightened senses, enhanced physical capabilities, a powerful regenerative ability known as a healing factor, and three retractable claws on each hand. Wolverine has been variously depicted as a member of the X-Men, Alpha Flight, X-Force, and the Avengers.

He has acquired different names such as Wolverine in Spain and Glotón, Guepardo, Aguja Dinámica or Emilio Garra in Latin America, where they also use the original alias.[4][5][6] He first appeared in the pages of The Incredible Hulk #180 in October 1974, although his formal introduction was in the following issue due to an oversight by the writer (#181, November 1974). He also made frequent guest appearances in other Marvel comics. In the 1980s and 1990s, comics featuring the character Wolverine became the publisher's bestsellers. He has appeared in most of the X-Men media adaptations, including animated television series, video games, and the 20th Century Fox film series in which he is portrayed by Hugh Jackman in nine of the ten films. The character is highly rated on many best-of comics lists, ranking #1 on Wizard magazine's Top 200 Comic Characters of 2008; #4 on Empire's Greatest Comic Book Characters of 2008, and #4 on IGN's Top 100 Comic Book Heroes of 2011.
The Hudson bloodline, an ancient and honorable family of Canada, descends from a sub-race of humans evolved from wolves known as the Lupines. The Supreme Leader of the Lupines, known only as Romulus, took a particular interest in James, the youngest child of Elizabeth Hudson and John Howlett, manipulating his life in various ways from birth.[18] James Howlett was born in Alberta, Canada in the 19th century. The second son of Elizabeth Hudson and John Howlett, James was born sick and weak. His mother was withdrawn and distant after the death of her first son, John, under unknown circumstances. James was a sickly child and also suffered from asthma, so he was always under the care of a young woman named Rose O'Hara, hired by the Howletts specifically to look after him and keep him happy. Rose and James were spending their time playing with another boy nicknamed "Dog", son of the cruel Thomas Logan, guardian of the grounds of the Howlett mansion. But things began to get complicated when John Howlett fired Thomas from his house after an incident. Then Thomas and his son broke into the Howlett house. At that moment, Thomas Logan implied that he was having an affair with Elizabeth behind John Howlett's back (this, added to the uncanny physical resemblance that James would later develop, implies that Thomas Logan is, in fact, James's real father) and murders John. The little James, full of rage, manifests for the first time his mutant abilities, including his bone claws. He kills Thomas and seriously wounds Dog in the face. Seeing the grotesque outcome, Elizabeth commits suicide with a shotgun blast. When James recovers from the trance of rage he entered, he cannot remember anything that happened. James decides to run away from home with Rose. Young James' grandfather gives Rose a large sum of money in exchange for them leaving forever.
In the fictional Marvel universe, Wolverine has regenerative powers that can heal any wound, no matter how mortal it may be. This same power makes him immune to any disease existing on Earth and some extraterrestrial ones. He also has superhuman strength, which, although not comparable to that of other superheroes such as Hulk, does surpass that of any human. As if that were not enough, his regenerative powers allow him to stay "young", so he looks like a 30-year-old man, despite being over 200. He has very sharp senses and reflexes, like those of a cheetah, from which he takes his name in Latin America, in addition to having three retractable claws on each hand. He had the claws naturally. An advantage of these regenerative powers is that they also protect his mind. In this way, every time a traumatic event happened in his life, his powers blocked it, making him forget it and, therefore, his past was a mystery. Added to this is the large number of times that his mind has been "reprogrammed" by the various organizations that used Wolverine, almost always under the dark hand of "Romulus", one of the oldest and most mysterious mutants in the Marvel universe whose existence dates back almost to the Stone Age, and one of the first "lupus sapiens" (the race to which Wolverine, Sabretooth and Wild Child supposedly belong, among others). Finally, a side effect of the healing factor is near-immortality: the reason humans age is because over the years the body cannot fully repair the constant damage and deterioration suffered by organs, cells and tissues. This damage accumulates and the consequence is that it favors the appearance of cancer in the organs, deterioration in the brain, etc. Since Wolverine possesses his regeneration factor, this damage does not accumulate and the individual always appears to be of adult age, without ever aging.
