Appearance

Megumin is a short teenager, with short hair and bangs leaving short front strands reaching her chin, and long back strands falling to her chest. Like all crimson demons, she has red eyes and has even been shown to glow in the dark in the anime (it is unknown if this is a racial characteristic that is present in crimson demons or her own). She wears a black cloak with yellow around the edges, like her clothes, and her witch's hat has a face similar to that of a scarecrow. She wears a red dress with yellow edges and a belt. She wears fingerless gloves on her hands and carries a wooden staff with which she uses the Blast spell. She wears a bandage along her right leg and a black stocking on her left, and she wears soft brown leather boots. She wears a black necklace on her neck. She wore a red patch with a white cross and yellow edges over her left eye (which she claimed was a seal that, if removed, would cause a catastrophe).

Personality

Megumin is a simple girl and speaks with an old Japanese dialect. She is usually very hyperactive and lively at times, and has chuunibyou tendencies like the other crimson demons. She is very intelligent, but lacks self-control, especially when it comes to using her explosive magic. She has no problem wasting her spell on empty plains or abandoned castles, as long as she can use one blast a day. Normally Megumin is calm and cheerful, but she can easily become aggressive when she feels slighted or challenged. Kazuma states that she is very noble and cares for her friends more than anyone else. She hates being treated like a girl just because of her young appearance and is put off by being called a loli.

Skills

Explosive Magic: Megumin is absolutely obsessed with Explosive Magic. All of his training was dedicated solely to improving his explosive power, shortening his chant, and being able to cast the spell without chanting it out loud. However, the severe mana drain, combined with no use of points to increase it, resulted in her always collapsing after activating the spell and leaving her completely immobile. Additionally, her refusal to learn other skills makes her rely entirely on her allies. Other mages capable of using Explosive Magic are known to be able to remain conscious after chanting it, know at least one other ability, and can fight alone if necessary.

Curiosities

In the character introductions of the anime's promotional video, Megumin was introduced as the actual hero, and Aqua as the main heroine. In the Light Novel you can see how she develops romantic feelings for Kazuma to the point of confessing in volume 9, currently (even after the end) their relationship is "More than friends but less than lovers" Satou Kazuma gives him a monthly allowance. Megumin parodies Lina Inverse from the Slayers series. Some of their similarities include: They both use the strongest spell, but for Megumin it is her only spell. They both hate being called loli or other unfavorable yet appropriate nicknames. They both have a self-proclaimed rival, with the difference that Naga is extremely arrogant and Yunyun is extremely shy. They both have an amazing sister. Luna, Lina's older sister, Aqua and Komekko, Megumin's younger sister. Megumin has a tattoo/birthmark, like all the Crimson Demons (barcodes), which is located (volume 3) on her butt. Although Darkness was the first to kiss Kazuma (volume 12). Megumin was the first to give Kazuma a French kiss (volume 16).
