Towa (とわ), whose current name is Towa Higurashi (日暮ひぐらしとわ), is one of the three protagonists and the main character of the anime series Hanyō no Yashahime. She is the eldest of the hanyō twins born from Sesshomaru's relationship with his human wife[5] Rin[6]. After separating from her sister Setsuna, she was transported to modern-day Japan.

personality 1

She has a loud personality and gets into fights at school, even though she doesn't start them. Towa despises bullies, seeing them as weaklings who only attack younger people. She is very protective and caring towards her adoptive family, especially Mei, whom she sees as a substitute for Setsuna. Unlike her half-aunt Kagome, Towa is aware of the danger that having knowledge of the future in the past could bring. Thus, she retrieves the seat of Kagome's lost bicycle and refuses to leave her history textbook behind.[7] Towa also considers something very small, such as the core of an apple from the future, to be dangerous if left behind, due to the fact that it is not a natural apple and has been treated with modern chemicals (which can disrupt the environment). She is also aware of the more firmly established gender divisions in modern Japan, and the pressure to look and act more "feminine" occasionally irritates her. However, she has no interest in conforming to such standards, maintaining her androgynous fashion style (though she claims this is because men's clothing is more practical for fighting) and never backing down from a fight. Her adoptive sister Mei is none too pleased about this, though it is mostly because she is worried that Towa will get into trouble. Towa is noble at heart and has trouble killing her opponents; most notably with the Three-Eyed Woman, whom she landed an attack strong enough to kill, but was unable to end.[8] During the fight against Tokotsu and Jakotsumaru, Towa felt sorry for the two, especially the latter, who was killed by Moroha.[9] She also noted that she and Setsuna were the ones who attacked Jakotsumaru and Tōkotsu, instead of the other way around, to which Setsuna angrily replied that the two had killed several humans because of their bones.[9]

personality 2

In fact, Setsuna and Moroha are often annoyed by Towa's kindness, believing that her pacifist attitude will put them in danger. However, Towa has no trouble destroying undead creatures when she was attacked by the red skeletons [9]. This has been largely attributed to the fact that she lived with Sota for ten years, to whom she promised not to reveal her powers in public. However, Towa has a very vengeful personality which brings out her most violent, sadistic and impulsive side; when she learned that Homura was responsible for causing the fire that separated her from her younger sister, her reaction was one of unimaginable anger, yearning to kill Homura with her own hands without caring about anything, even when this Yokai committed suicide due to his uncontrolled anger. Another example of her vengeful side is manifested when Setsuna is killed by Kirinmaru, loudly announcing that he was her prey, awakening her demonic powers completely as a result of the anger she felt at that moment. Also when Zero in complicity with Nanahoshi set a trap for Towa in which they attacked her when she was most vulnerable due to the new moon that weakened the girl depriving her of her powers where both manipulated her memories exposing the traumas of her past which made her enraged to the point of awakening her blind rage with which she ends up killing the insect of eternity and Nanahoshi himself. Similar to her uncle Inuyasha, Towa lets herself be consumed by anger to the point that she would ignore other matters when fighting an opponent, such as the intertwined fate of her biological mother with Zero or the advice of Riku and Setsuna. Thanks to having lived a good part of her childhood with her stepsister Mei Higurashi, she has no difficulties relating to younger children, becoming a happier person as the story progresses.

personality 3

Due to growing up in the modern era, where a stable society existed that taught her to value and respect the lives of others, Towa was surprised by Kaede's casual disregard for whether Rin might still be alive after disappearing years ago; though she accepted that this was due to the turbulent state of the Sengoku Era, which was characterized by constant wartime and rampant violence the old woman lived under. Under this belief, Towa seeks to defeat villains without having to directly hurt human beings, which is reflected with the monk Juan whom she chose to expel the Yokai that possessed him to do him some kind of harm by absorbing the Demonic energy of that being. She seems to have a lively, more energetic and playful personality, perhaps after meeting Setsuna her aura has changed and she was very protective of her not caring about her attitude just to ask if she was okay, since as noted by Kaede and Rion, Towa is very kind. Much like her paternal half-uncle, Towa exhibits some dog-like behaviors, such as shaking her body to clean it of water after a battle against the Demonic Pond and the Poisonous Snake, or running towards Setsuna on all fours to make sure she is okay after the fight with Kyūki ends. To Sota, all of these behaviors greatly remind him of Inuyasha. The reunion with her sister Setsuna after ten years of separation awakened a strong feeling of guilt in Towa, feeling responsible for having released Setsuna during the fire, and consequently losing her ability to sleep and her childhood memories, her main objective being to find the Dream Butterfly to restore her ability to sleep and her sister's memories. After the fight with Kirinmaru where her younger sister dies, Towa belittles herself for being weak in not being able to protect her sister, which leads her father to intervene.

personality 4

Towa is inexperienced when it comes to romance, but is well aware of the concept of someone liking her. Despite this, she is shown to be easily flattered and flustered when someone makes romantic advances towards her, to the point of leaving her blushing and speechless. Much like her Aunt Kagome, such romantic inclinations can make Towa clumsy and naive, as after Riku partially confessed his feelings for her, she trusted him so much that she gave him her silver rainbow pearl, only to regret it after remembering that he was Kirinmaru's servant. Despite her virtues and kind side, Towa has a dark side, manifested when Zero tried to manipulate her heart in which she reflects her personal frustrations and envy towards her own younger sister Setsuna where she believes she had a happy childhood while she lived a childhood marked by the absence of Setsuna and the feeling of guilt for having released her during the fire [12]. Towa also has an opportunistic side that she brings out when the opportunity presents itself. An example is when she helps Moroha in one of her missions as a bounty hunter to get enough money to allow her to hire someone to help her find the Dream Butterfly. Another example is when she finds out about the link between Riku and Kirinmaru, she takes the opportunity to send a message to the Daiyokai through Riku. Towa also does not have a prejudiced side when she meets Rion, because despite hating Kirinmaru for the death of her younger sister, she does not show any resentment towards Rion for being Kirinmaru's daughter, nor does she show any resentment towards Riku for being his extension, seeing both characters as her friends.

appearance

Towa is a teenage-looking girl with an average height and very fair, almost pale skin. She has short, white hair with a closed fringe and magenta eyes. Towa's most distinctive feature is a lock of hair in her bangs that is a paradise pink color, this feature along with the unnatural color of her eyes and hair being the only signs of her identity as a Hanyo. In the manga, Towa had her hair in a straight hairstyle without her bleached lock until her confrontation with the Three-Eyed Woman. Human form Much like her uncle Inuyasha, Towa undergoes a major transformation during the nights of the new moon. Due to this phenomenon, Towa loses her powers and becomes human; in this state, Towa's hair turns black and slightly longer until it reaches the height of her shoulders, keeping the stain on her lock of hair with the hair color and a hairstyle similar to that of her mother Rin when her hair ends in curved tips. Her eyes also undergo changes, becoming a brown color similar to those of her mother; when the nights of the new moon come to an end, her hair returns to its original color and length and her eyes return to their original color. [13]

appearance 2

In her transformation into a Yokai, Towa's hair becomes much longer, reaching down to her waist, having the same length and volume as her mother Rin's, and her ears become pointed; on her forehead appears a purple crescent-shaped mark similar to that of her father, her grandmother, and a mark of irregular magenta patterns on each cheek identical to the marks of her sister Setsuna in her demonic form; the pupils of her eyes become slanted, her sclera remains white and her fangs are more pronounced[14], however if Towa finds herself in a situation where her life is in grave danger or becomes enraged, Towa transforms into an uncontrolled state in which her eyes turn red without the presence of the crescent moon mark on her forehead becoming violent and aggressive[15] with an aura of deep red letting anger and hatred dominate her leading her even to kill ruthlessly showing an unimaginable thirst for blood.

powers 1

Powers and abilities Having grown up in the modern era for most of her life, Towa is the least combat-experienced of the three Yashahime. She would easily let her guard down and be susceptible to attacks, which initially allowed her to be possessed by a Hitokon.[16] She was initially unaware of her status as a hanyō, resulting in her powers initially not being as developed as Setsuna's or Moroha's. Despite this, Towa is still shown to be a powerful hanyo in her own right. She was able to land a critical hit on the Three-Eyed Woman, whose strength was increased by two Rainbow Pearls; a feat that neither Setsuna nor Moroha were able to accomplish. While possessed by a Hitokon, it can take advantage of its host's abilities, fighting evenly with the experienced Setsuna. In one of the Yashahime's fights, after Towa demonstrates skill with her sword, Myoga mentions that "one would expect nothing less from the daughter of Lord Sesshomaru", praising her power and precision. As the series progressed, Towa's powers and endurance increased to the point where she was able to withstand a direct confrontation with Kirinmaru and was even able to injure him despite the great difference between them.

powers 2

Demonic Power: Being the daughter of Sesshōmaru, an extremely powerful Daiyōkai, Towa boasts incredible Demonic Power, impressing even Setsuna and Moroha. However, having grown up without anyone teaching her how to use her powers, she is unaware of her own abilities and what she could achieve. It seems that her powers would only manifest when she is in a very heightened emotional state. However, after manifesting it once, Towa can freely control her powers at will meaning that she is a very fast learner. Demonic Energy Blade: By channeling her demonic power into her broken katana, Towa can generate a demonic power energy blade. The size and length of the blade can be controlled at will, granting Towa incredible offensive and defensive abilities. File:Twin Sōryūha.png Sōtō no Sōryūha Sōryūha (蒼竜破そうりゅうは, Blue Dragon Wave?): From the tip of her energy sword, Towa can unleash a powerful wave of demonic energy in the form of a blue dragon, inherited from her father. In her second battle with Kirinmaru, while in her yokai form, she was able to create two dragons at the same time which Kirinmaru named 'Sōtō no Sōryūha' (ツイン蒼竜破そうりゅうは, Twin Blue Dragon Wave?). Demonic Energy Sheath: With control of her demonic energy, Towa can trap her enemies without directly coming into physical contact.[17] Demonic Energy Absorption: Using her sword made of demonic energy, Towa can absorb other demonic energies.

powers 3

Energy Field Projection: In her Yokai form, Towa is able to create energy fields that are quite resistant, being able to withstand direct attacks from Kirinmaru or a short-range explosion without Towa suffering any damage. Later on and thanks to her sword Zanseiken, Towa can generate these energy fields whenever she sees fit [18]. Superhuman Agility and Physical Strength: Possessing Yokai ancestry, Towa possesses superhuman strength and agility, being able to easily subdue a group of outnumbered thugs with their bare hands, run at great speeds, and leap far like her half-uncle Inuyasha. [8] As a child, she could leap from a tall tree and land on the ground without injury. As a teenager, Towa can easily lift and throw a man many meters into the air with a single hand. She is also capable of leaping incredible heights and covering great distances between each leap. Keen Sense of Smell: Thanks to her yokai ancestry, Towa also boasts a keen sense of smell; how developed this sense is is unknown[8] but she can detect the presence and/or whereabouts of a human or demon even at far distances. Acute Hearing: In addition to the above mentioned, Towa also has a very well developed hearing, being able for example, to hear Mei's heartbeat in the womb of her mother Moe thus knowing that she was pregnant [15]. Experienced Combatant: Towa is also very proficient in unarmed combat, able to easily switch between kicks, throws, and elbow strikes. Even while maintaining her strength, she can still easily defeat a gang of thugs, who were significantly larger and heavier than her, on a regular basis. Swordsmanship: Being that swordsmanship is her primary form of combat, combined with the various bokken and shinai in her room, it is implied that Towa is competent

powers 4

Enhanced Durability: Being a hanyō, Towa is far more durable than an average human. She was hit in the face several times by a thug with a wooden katana and was not significantly injured. Immunity to gaseous poisons: Like her father, Towa possesses a resistance to poisons and toxins, however, her status as a Hanyo limits her resistance to gaseous poisons.[19] Transformations: Due to her dual nature as a Hanyo, Towa can assume either a completely human or completely demonic state. For the former case, this occurs during the night of the new moon. While the latter case occurs when she enters a heightened emotional state. Levitation: Due to her transformation into a complete Yokai, Towa learns to fly when she surrounds herself with a blue aura around her body. Armament Kikujūmonji Replica - Towa's primary weapon. Initially believed to be the true National Treasure Sword, it was later revealed to be on loan from a museum. The blade was broken during her fight with the Three-Eyed Woman. However, Towa's ability to create an energy blade from its handle allows her to continue wielding the sword in combat. Silver Rainbow Pearl: Towa possessed the silver pearl inside her left eye for most of her life. It seems that many of her abilities were due to its influence, as her left eye tended to glow whenever she used a new power. Later, Towa gave Riku her pearl, as he revealed that he was looking for them to return them to their original owner, and she, having no interest in it, gladly gave it to him, only asking in return that Riku leave Setsuna and Moroha's pearls alone. Time Travel: Towa could travel back and forth five hundred years between the Feudal Era and present-day Japan. Tenseiga/Sacred Fang: Towa temporarily made use of this weapon to resurrect Setsuna after she was killed by Kirinmaru.

weaknesses

Weaknesses Vulnerability to Liquid Poisons: In contrast to her resistance to gaseous poisons, Towa is vulnerable to all poisonous liquid substances produced by other Demons.[19] Human Transformation: Like her uncle Inuyasha, Towa undergoes a human transformation during the night of the new moon. In her weakened state, her powers as a Yokai are completely lost during the night of the new moon. Being weakened, her heart rate undergoes a significant change as she cannot withstand being in very high places such as a mountain for example, her ability to manifest her demonic energy in the replica of Kikujumonji completely dissipates and her strength and speed are lost, reducing to human level. Towa also cannot use the powers of her silver Rainbow Pearl while she is in the new moon. However, this weakness is not permanent and only disappears when dawn breaks the next day. Being a being belonging to another timeline, this weakness does not manifest itself in the modern era, occurring only in her original time.
