Shadow the Hedgehog (シャドウ・ザ・ヘッジホッグ, Shadō za Hejjihoggu?, lit. "Shadow the Hedgehog") is a fictional character in the Sonic the Hedgehog series; a black anthropomorphic hedgehog/Black Arms hybrid. He is Sonic's archrival and antithesis in every aspect of his life. Shadow resembles Sonic in many ways, including his speed thanks to his jet skis, eventually matching Sonic's speed. Shadow was created as the "Ultimate Life Form" (究極生命体 Kyūkyoku Seimeitai?) by Gerald Robotnik, using Black Doom's DNA, and is the end result of Project Shadow.
