Sam opened a bar, the business was flat at first, until Sam concocted a drink called "Dovlin", which became a big hit in town. However, when Demi was curious and wanted to try "Dovlin", Sam refused her for various reasons. One day Sam told Demi that he was closing the bar because he had been offered a job as a bartender, believing that the new job would bring them more income and a more stable life, but Sam never returned. To make a living, Demi had to reopen the bar. But the business was bad. On her 20th birthday, she received a letter. Inside the envelope with the red lacquer seal was a strange recipe. With the mentality of giving it a try, she entertained the regular customers of the bar, and the regular customers told her that this was "Dovlin". She believed that the recipe must be related to her brother's disappearance, so she decided to go to Oletus Manor.

When Demi was born, she was very weak and was not expected to survive. She managed to live, but her mother was not happy with her and saw the white hair Demi had as an unforgivable sin. Demi was seen as a disgrace to her mother. Demi and her mother lived with her adopted older brother Sam in the slums until their mother died, and they crossed the sea to Europe. Once there, Sam and Demi opened "Bourbon's Bar" and it did very well as it sold a specialty Dovlin designed by Sam. However, he closed down the bar to get a more stable job, but disappeared as soon as he left to start it. Demi re-opened the bar, but without the Dovlin it was not going well, and she experimented to try and recreate it. She was unable to until she received a mysterious letter with the Dovlin recipe, which turned out to be the correct recipe. Believing the letter will help her find her brother, she tracked down its origin to a strange manor.
