Fujimoto

Appearance

Fujimoto is 196 cm tall (6'5 ft), a strikingly handsome man with a tired face and sleepy eyes. He has long, somewhat messy red hair. He has blue shadows on his eyes, pink streaks on his cheeks, and gold jewelry. He also wears a blue striped jacket and a bard's robe.

Skills

He is a talented potion maker, sorcerer, scientist, and guardian of marine life. Able to make potions that can increase the level of life in the ocean or the strength of her own magic. Extremely knowledgeable about marine life and magic. Eager magical abilities, also seen in his daughters. It appears to be able to breathe underwater, with or without a protective bubble. Long Life - Despite claiming to have once been human, Fujimoto appears to have lived a very long life with a slower aging process and remains very agile despite appearing to be in his 40s.

Personality

Fujimoto is a dignified type of character who demands respect but is also prone to getting flustered. As a human turned sea-keeper, he resents his former kind for being so dirty and polluting his home. Fujimoto is very concerned with order and control, but he is not cruel. He loves his daughters and wants them to be safe. Fujimoto carries himself with dignity even in defeat. The first time he walks on land, he uses a device that sprays seawater on his feet. The next few times he stops doing this, because he gets used to it.

Family

Ponyo is Fujimoto's eldest daughter. Like the rest of her siblings, Ponyo doesn't seem to respect her father or care about his wishes, which is why she chose to run away from home. This is most likely due to Fujimoto's overprotective behavior. That being said, Fujimoto himself truly loves and cares for his daughter, but has a lot of things going against him. He worries about Ponyo disappearing, and tries to explain to her why the surface world is dangerous, and why becoming human would throw the world out of balance. He seems to be the only one who shows concern about Ponyo possibly turning into sea foam, and it can also be assumed that he's the one who does most of the parenting himself. He seems to have been the one who chose Ponyo's birth name, something her mother didn't seem to know about in the first place, and he even claims that he and his ex-wife haven't seen each other in a long time.

Family

Ponyo's sisters are Fujimoto's youngest daughters. Like Ponyo, they don't seem to respect their father very much. Ponyo's sisters help her escape from the bubble that Fujimoto puts her in and also cause Fujimoto to fall into the water while he's trying to find Ponyo at Sosuke's house. It can be assumed that Fujimoto is just as protective of his other daughters as he is of Ponyo, however, his other daughters don't seem to be as rebellious as Ponyo until Ponyo runs away.

Trivia

He may be overly protective of his daughters in the film, but he only wants the best for them. According to him, he was once a human, but is no longer one.
