Yamaguchi is a freckle-faced young man with dark green hair. He belongs to Karasuno High School. During matches, Yamaguchi wears a black, orange, and white uniform with the number 12 on the back. He also wears knee pads and black and white super volleyball shoes. Outside of matches and practice, Yamaguchi wears a black gakuran, the Karasuno men's uniform.

He is his best friend since childhood. Yamaguchi is known to have a great appreciation for him. He usually calls him “Tsukki” and there is a pretty common line between them that characterizes them: “—Shut up, Yamaguchi. —I’m sorry, Tsukki!” The first time they fight, Tsukishima admits that he thought it was cool. Tsukishima and Yamaguchi tend to spend most of their time together.

team history

The school's volleyball club was founded many years ago and has often been associated with the name "the crows" due to the school's name. The boys' volleyball club's flag reads "Take to the Skies", which alludes to crows; there are even rumors that Coach Ukai keeps ferocious crows as pets. Karasuno went to the nationals once, under the guidance of Coach Ukai and the "Little Giant" and was famous throughout Miyagi Prefecture. However, after initial success, Karasuno was unable to pass their prefecture's preliminaries in future tournaments and thus received the derogatory nicknames "The Fallen Champions" and "The Flightless Crows". For a time, Karasuno was without a coach due to Ukai's hospitalization, after a few months of training Daichi Sawamura took over both captain and coaching duties until Ukai's grandson Keishin Ukai became the new coach. The team's managers consist of Kiyoko Shimizu, a third year and the original director, and Hitoka Yachi, a first year recruited by Kiyoko after the first tournament. The main team consists of Daichi Sawamura, Asahi Azumane, Ryūnosuke Tanaka, Yu Nishinoya, Shoyo Hinata, Tobio Kageyama, and Kei Tsukishima. Karasuno is currently famous for its bizarre fast attack (performed by both Kageyama and Hinata) and its unique members: Kitagawa High School's "King of the Court" Daiichi Kageyama; Chidoriyama champion libero Nishinoya; and 1.62cm tall middle blocker Hinata. Karasuno's main rivals within Miyagi Prefecture are Aoba Jōsai, Date High School, and Shiratorizawa Academy. Karasuno's "classic" rival is Nekoma High School, and they have always lost; since they both represent animals (cats and crows) that are usually found in garbage bins, their matches are called "The Garbage Dump Battle."
