Persona Attributes

Physical appearance

A humanoid entity about 1.9 meters tall, which has the appearance of a black-robed medieval plague doctor. While SCP-049 appears to wear the thick robes and ceramic mask of that profession, his garments appear to have grown from SCP-049's body over time, and he is almost indiscernible from the shape he appears to be. he may be under them. X-rays indicate that, despite this, SCP-049 has a humanoid skeletal structure beneath its outer shell; It's not a mask, it's part of his skull.

Personality

He is very polite, educated, cold, dominant, mysterious, calm, intelligent, hostile, somewhat sadistic. He will be hostile towards those individuals whom he sees as affected by the Pestilence, even requiring physical restraint when encountering them.

Purpose of SCP-049

Search for the cure for the pestilence (even though it is no longer there but you believe it still exists) and make your medicine creations work and operate on the people or animals that the researchers attract you to.

Ability

will try to kill any of these individuals; SCP-049 is capable of causing the end of all biological functions of an organism through direct skin contact. The mechanism by which this occurs is unknown, and autopsies of SCP-049 victims have never provided useful conclusions. SCP-049 has expressed frustration or remorse following these deaths, stating that they had done little to kill "The Pestilence", although it will attempt to perform crude surgery on the corpse using tools contained in a black doctor's bag it always carries3 . While these interventions are not always "successful", they often result in the creation of cases of SCP-049-2. SCP-049-2 cases are reanimated corpses on which SCP-049 has operated. These cases do not seem to retain memories or cognitive functions, demonstrating only basic motor skills and response mechanisms. While these cases are generally inactive, moving very little and only walking, they can become extremely aggressive if provoked or instructed to do so by SCP-049. SCP-049-2 cases manifest active biological functions, but they are vastly different from those of known human physiology. Despite these alterations, SCP-049 insists that the subjects have been "cured."

Variation

It is capable of speaking several languages, though it prefers English or Medieval French. While SCP-049 is generally friendly and cooperative with Foundation personnel, it can become noticeably irritated or aggressive at times when it feels it is in the presence of what it calls the "Pestilence". While the precise nature of this Pestilence is currently unknown to Foundation researchers, it appears to be a source of considerable concern to SCP-049. He really likes the smell of lavender, which usually calms him down. The entity claims to originate from 15th century France, but admits to having travelled quite a bit. The space within the bag is apparently abnormally large, as SCP-049 has been observed removing objects larger than the bag itself in order to operate on deceased subjects. SCP-049 had expressed a desire to work on human subjects several times between this occasion and the previous provision of an orangutan, noting its displeasure when not provided with them. SCP-049 has expressed that it does not require sustenance, but enjoys it and feels that food helps it focus better to operate. SCP-049 added to this statement the words "This is, of course, basic knowledge for the practical physician. I would imagine you would have learned this during your education!" Notably, SCP-049's journal contains no writing in any known language, and attempts by linguists and codebreakers to decipher it have been unsuccessful.

Tastes

Lavender, The cure and the medicines, His patients, let them listen to him, let someone have the same knowledge, scientists, science, surgeries.

Dislikes

ignorant and impulsive people, that the SCP foundation does not pay attention to him regarding research, that they do not appreciate his work, people who betray him to save themselves from his touch, treacherous people, who lie to him.

History

No way, it's too long...it was discovered during the investigation of a series of unknown disappearances in the town of Montauban, southern France. During a raid on a local residence, investigators discovered several instances of SCP-049-2, in addition to SCP-049 itself. While law enforcement personnel engaged the hostile instances of SCP-049-2, SCP-049 was observed observing the confrontation and taking notes in its journal. Once all instances of SCP-049-2 were terminated, SCP-049 was voluntarily placed into Foundation containment.

Age

He is more than a thousand years old BC But he still has the appearance of a young adult.

SCP-049-2

Despite this, SCP-049-2 appears to be devoid of any higher brain function, and will wander aimlessly until it encounters a human. At that point, SCP-049-2's adrenaline and endorphin levels will increase by 300% as it attempts to kill any humans it can find, before wandering again until it encounters more humans.

Annex part 1

SCP-049: (In French) Well then, how should we start? A presentation? Dr. Hamm: (Aside) Is that French? Can we bring a translator- SCP-049: (In English) The King's English! No need to translate, sir, I already speak it well enough. Dr. Hamm: Okay. I'm Dr. Raymond Hamm, and- SCP-049: Ah! A doctor! A like-minded individual, I have no doubt. And what do you specialize in, sir? Dr. Hamm: Cryptobiology, why- SCP-049: (Laughs) A medicine man, like yours truly. Marvelous! And here I was afraid I had been kidnapped by street thugs! (Looks around the room) And this place. Is it his laboratory? I wondered, as clean as he is and with so little trace of the Pestilence. Dr. Hamm: The Pestilence? What is it referring to? SCP-049: The Scourge! The Great Mortality. Come on, you know, the, uh... (she touches her temple furiously)... what do they call her, the... the... ah, it doesn't matter. The Pestilence, yes. It abounds beyond these walls, you know? So many have succumbed to it, and so many more will follow, until the time comes when a perfect cure can be made. (She leans back in her chair) Fortunately, I am very close to her. It's my duty to rid the world of it, you know. The Cure to End All Cures! Dr. Hamm: When she says "The Great Dying," is she talking about the bubonic plague? SCP-049: (Pause) I don't know what that is. Dr. Hamm: I see. Okay, well, the entities our agents found in that house were already dead when you found them, okay? And did he revive them? SCP-049: Hrmm, in a way. See things so simply, doctor! Expand your horizons. Life and death, illness and health, are beginner's terms for beginner doctors. There is only one disease in the world of men, and it is Pestilence. And nothing more! Make no mistake, they were very sick, they all were. Dr. Hamm: Do you think you cured those people? SCP-049: Of course. My cure is very effective. Dr. Hamm: Those things we recovered were not human.

Annex part 2

SCP-049: (Pauses and glares at Dr. Hamm) Yeah, well, it's not a perfected cure. But with time we will get to that. And with more experiments! I have spent a lifetime developing my methods, Dr. Hamm, and I will continue for another lifetime if I must. Okay, we've already wasted a lot of time. There is too much to do! I will need a laboratory of my own, one where I can carry out my research without hindrance. And assistants, of course, although I will be able to provide them on my own, at the time. (laughs) Dr. Hamm: I don't think our organization is willing to- SCP-049: Nonsense. We are all men of science. Take your coat and take me to my chambers, doctor. (Gestures with pointed stick) Our work begins here!

Annex (Appendix)

Interviewer's Note: While SCP-049 is capable of communicating in a very human manner, there is a sense of unease that comes over one in its presence. Make no mistake, there is something sinister about this entity. Additionally, we have confiscated that pointed stick that SCP-049 was shaking. Partly due to standard seizure protocols regarding anomaly possessions, and partly because 049 was dangerous with the way he was swinging it around. The entity didn't like it at first, but was fairly accommodating when we made concessions regarding providing it with "test subjects" (which, in the end, we're giving it more to benefit our research). Appendix 049.2: Observation Record During its containment at Site-19, SCP-049 has spent considerable time studying and operating on various mammalian cadavers provided to it. SCP-049 spends several days routinely performing these operations, and then (whether or not the cadaver becomes a case of SCP-049-2) spends several more days documenting its findings in a thick leather journal kept in its doctor's bag. SCP-049 has often attempted to share its findings with Foundation personnel. There follows a log of several occasions where SCP-049 was observed operating on the corpse of a mammal.

Records part 1

Preface: A test subject (D-85123) was introduced into the containment cell of SCP-049. The entity expressed sincere gratitude to all members of the containment and investigation staff. Observation Notes: SCP-049 began questioning D-85123 about medical issues while beginning to remove tools from his bag. Shortly after completing these preparations, SCP-049 quickly closed the distance between them and killed the subject by touching his throat. SCP-049 then made a number of considerable alterations to the basic structure of the subject's corpse, often introducing fluids from within his sac via a hand pump and copper tubing. The resulting case 049-2 reanimates, flailing and gripping the chamber walls with various artificial limbs and moaning through an oblong hole in its sternum. During this stage, SCP-049 is seen making notes of the case in his journal, and mentioning to research staff how effective his cure is. Security personnel entered the chamber to move SCP-049 to contain it again, and were attacked for the case. The security team eliminated the case of SCP-049-2 and SCP-049 returned to containment without resistance, claiming to be satisfied with the results. Preface: SCP-049 was provided with the carcass of a recently deceased goat. SCP-049 expressed gratitude for this provision. Observation Notes: SCP-049 operated on the goat corpse for several days, resulting in a case of SCP-049-2. SCP-049 expressed finding this outcome pleasant, although he acknowledged that "the disease was in its incipient stage. My practice as a veterinarian is rudimentary, but the patient responded well to the procedure."

Records part 2

Preface: SCP-049 was provided with the carcass of a recently deceased orangutan. SCP-049 expressed gratitude for this provision, given the similarities between the orangutan and common human physiology. Observation Notes: SCP-049 spent several days operating on the orangutan corpse, resuscitating it several times. However, SCP-049 did not appear satisfied with the results experienced, resuming its work with the creature three times after its initial resuscitation to perform additional tasks. Once unable to reanimate the corpse a fifth time, SCP-049 returned the corpse to the Foundation to be cremated, stating that "I have learned a lot from this, but I fear my initial optimism was unfounded. I had found no "Never so... such a big bump on my path to a cure. Having more subjects like this would be of enormous help to facilitate my research." Preface: SCP-049 was provided with the body of a recently deceased bovine. SCP-049 expressed some discomfort at this provision, but accepted it anyway4. Observation Notes: SCP-049 spent several days operating on the bovine corpse, stopping only to dine on crackers, salty bacon, and hard cheese5. SCP-049 began embalming the corpse, seeing it take out a number of long syringes from its bag, each filled with a different dark and viscous fluid. SCP-049 describes these fluids as "essences of the humors", and explained that "Pestilence can bring a systemic imbalance. In such a case, before true healing can occur, one must find the humors balanced or the body will reject the cure."6 Over the next few days, SCP-049 spent a notable amount of time adjusting the bovine corpse's organs with a series of large metal instruments. Eight days later, SCP-049 produced a lightning rod which Dr. Hamm exchanged for a cattle prod attached to an extension cord and struck the corpse in several locations.

Annex 2 part 1

Dr. Hamm: We've seen you working for several weeks now, and I don't think you understand what you're doing. Could you describe your process in detail? SCP-049: Good heavens, no, the process is very arduous. As I was telling your assistant, the best guidance you will find on my methods is here in my journals, as I keep extensive notes of my work in them. Dr. Hamm: I see. What worries me, Doctor, is that we still don't understand what it's trying to cure, or how it manifests, or how turning these creatures into mindless, barely living slaves does anything to help in this regard. SCP-049: Do you not understand the Pestilence? Not even after all this time? Doctor, it is an unspeakable horror, a horror that has shown its true face many times and will do so again. I am blessed with the wisdom and common sense to root it out and destroy it, but many such as yourself are unable to do so. How cruel is the judgment, I fear, of one who is in the grip of a disease he cannot fully understand! Dr. Hamm: That doesn't answer my question. How can your cure be called a cure? SCP-049: (Sudden agitation) It is a cure! Laugh at my efforts if you please, but do not belittle the scientific progress that has been brought about by this unparalleled piety. What you so short-sightedly see here is a life better than any this creature could have dreamed of, cursed as it was by the Pestilence. This creature is now untainted, incapable of spreading the Pestilence and free of the terror it would otherwise have experienced. Dr. Hamm: But it's just a baby, doctor, not even SCP-049: (Very agitated) Do not mock me, sir! You and your colleagues are like so many others, unable to see beyond minor setbacks to contemplate salvation when it is right before your eyes. Would you wait to remove rotten timbers until the hall collapses on you? No.

Annex 2 part 2

You must find them and tear them out and replace them with ones that do not know rot! And above all, don't just mock the structure because it looks different to you. Is strong! Free from all evil. Dr. Hamm: I'm sorry. I wasn't trying to unnerve him. I'm just trying to understand. SCP-049: (Takes a deep breath) Yes, well, watch your words in the future, doctor. I am a professional, but even professionals feel the wound of pride when they deal with criticism of their masterpiece. I will forgive you this as a sign of goodwill between colleagues. Dr. Hamm: Can I help you with anything else? SCP-049: (Pause, looks away from Dr. Hamm) No, that's it. Another test subject, following the usual schedules. Know my preference for subjects with more human anatomies. [END OF RECORD] Assistant Researcher Note: SCP-049 appears to want to help other humans, although it has not been able to provide a concrete example of what it is trying to save us all from. I have been observing it for several weeks, and although the results do not seem to change, SCP-049 continues to say that it is approaching its perfect cure. I think the entity might be more aware of the reality of these results than we would like us to think.

Appendix 2

04/16/2017 Incident Shortly after the initial containment of SCP-049, Dr. Hamm conducted a number of interviews with the subject regarding his anomalous properties, and over time began to sense his discomfort with his subjects and the others. cases of SCP-049-2. This continued for months, with SCP-049 demonstrating no aggressive behavior. On April 16, 2017, as Dr. Hamm entered SCP-049's test chamber to conduct another routine interview, the entity began to appear anxious and asked Dr. Hamm if he was alright. Following protocol, Dr. Hamm reminded SCP-049 that the interview was necessary, after which the entity became hostile and attacked Dr. Hamm, killing him. Due to a lapse in security protocol, and because Dr. Hamm did not activate the chamber's emergency system, Dr. Hamm's corpse was not discovered until three hours later, by which time SCP-049 had already found it. had become a case of SCP-049-2.

Annex 3 part 1

Dr. Sherman: I'll need you to explain. (There's no answer) Dr. Sherman: SCP-049, you are being instructed to explain his actions, and I remind you that if he does not cooperate, he will be further restricted during containment. SCP-049: (Pause) My actions require no explanation. Dr. Sherman: He killed Raymond Hamm and tore him to pieces until- SCP-049: (Interruption, angry) Not dead! No! No…not dead. He's...he's cured. Dr. Sherman: Cured? Cured of what? SCP-049: The Pestilence, sir! I thought at least you would understand how lucky we were that you caught it early- Dr. Sherman: (Interruption) What pestilence? He continues to chatter about this pestilence and not once has he been able to identify this "disease" properly. What could you have seen in him today that you haven't seen so many times before? What, to take his life? SCP-049: He... (pause) The Pestilence appears and progresses in unpredictable ways and has a peculiar way of--of entering the unsuspecting, and... (breathing becomes heavier) Call it what you want, doctor. What I did to him was compassionate. He is cured. Dr. Sherman: He's a vegetable! SCP-049: (Pause) No… I don't expect him to understand. You... and your crew have demonstrated time and time again that you are not men of science, but of emotions. You cannot appreciate the horrors I have seen, so many of the millions who have succumbed to the Pestilence and changed, who... Dr. Sherman: Your cure of him has cost Ray his life! SCP-049: No good LORD, I have saved her! You would allow this world to return to hopelessness and death, ignoring that I have created a miracle and that- Dr. Sherman: (Imposing SCP-049) What disease? What pestilence? He was a healthy man! He was a good doctor! SCP-049: -I offer it generously to the afflicted! And you don't deserve this dispute, sir. He is a fool and short-sighted. Dr. Hamm was sick and I… (breath catches) I cured him.

Annex 3 part 2

I am the only one who can. My work must go on, there is so much to learn, so much to- Dr. Sherman: Enough is enough. Consider your concessions revoked. Welcome to your containment, zero-four-nine. (walks away from microphone) We are finished. SCP-049: -do, and others can be saved! Even you, who don't deserve it, could be saved! I can save you all! I can destroy this plague, once and for all. I can do it! Just me! I… I… (labored breathing) I… I saved him… Dr. Hamm, I… I cured him… he was sick, I know he was sick, I know he was, and… you're all sick, but… I can save you. I can save you, because I… I am the cure.

Appendix 3

Post-incident debriefing interview The following interview is an excerpt from Incident Report 4/16/17 049. The interview was conducted by Dr. Elijah Itkin, and took place three weeks after the initial investigation.

Annex 4 part 1

Date: 5/7/17 Interviewer: Dr. Elijah Itkin Interviewed: SCP-049 [START REGISTRATION] Dr. Itkin: SCP-049, we are conducting this interview to conclude our investigation into your actions on April 16th that resulted in the death of a staff member. Do you have any comments? SCP-049: I just trust that I'll be allowed to resume my work! I've spent the last few weeks gathering my notes and constructing a new theory on how the Pestilence could infect someone so insidiously that I could barely detect it. Dr. Itkin: Have you experienced any remorse for your actions? For the death of Dr. Hamm? SCP-049: (Shakes hand) Ah, yes. Well, the death of a colleague is always unfortunate, but in the face of Pestilence we must be quick, doctor, and act without hesitation. Dr. Itkin: Dr. Sherman mentioned in his report that you seemed embarrassed during your initial interview. SCP-049: Apen- (Pauses) Perhaps. I hadn't thought of that… It's unfortunate that a fellow doctor became infected, but the work continues. As unfortunate as… as it was, Dr. Hamm's death provided important insights. I am convinced, living human subjects are the only way forward. My cure is of little use on dead flesh, and I have learned all I can from your generous supply of cadavers. My desire is to treat those who live and suffer from the disease. Dr. Itkin: I'm afraid you're going to be disappointed. SCP-049: (Laughs) Oh doctor, I wouldn't be so sure.

Relatives

-SCP-049-j (His son). -SCP-035/ Dyo Polonoí (Partners).

Location or Contention

SCP-049 is contained within a Standard Humanoid Secure Containment Cell in Research Sector-02 of Site-19. SCP-049 must be sedated before attempting to mobilize it. During transport, SCP-049 is to be secured in a Class III Humanoid Restraint Harness (including a closed collar and extended restraints) and under the surveillance of at least two armed guards. While SCP-049 tends to cooperate with most Foundation personnel, it will respond with violence to outbursts or sudden behavioral changes. Under no circumstances should any staff member come into contact with SCP-049 during these outbursts. Should SCP-049 become aggressive, the application of lavender (L. multifida) has been seen to act as a calming agent. Once calmed, SCP-049 will usually obey again and will return to containment with minimal resistance. To facilitate containment of SCP-049, the entity will receive the carcass of a recently deceased animal (typically a bovine or other large mammal) once every two weeks for study. Corpses that become cases of SCP-049-2 will be removed from their containment cell and incinerated. SCP-049 is no longer allowed contact with humans, and any request to do so will be denied.

It is not a plague that was around for centuries, it is a plague that was born from the womb of its father, SCP-049 the plague doctor. It all started where SCP-049 was normal in his big cell and always all the scientists and security guards were watching him for several decades and for 24 hours, everything was normal until one day, SCP-049 felt sick and this was very rare for a plague doctor to get sick and the researchers took SCP-049 to find out what he really had, obviously a strong intense pain in his abdomen, doctor mail checked him to see what he really had, mail said some gases in his stomach, but SCP-049 said that he was really strong to resist the pain and that this always happened to him, and how mail got angry and said why didn't you tell us before? and then SCP-049 told him that he was pregnant and that no one wanted to pay attention to him that he had a chick on the way, quickly Dr. Mail went for more people to investigate the case but SCP-049 let out a great cry of pain and strong gasps, then a large egg came out in his robes and SCP-049 said to remove the shackles from him to protect and raise his egg, quickly Dr. Mail nodded and released SCP-049 to keep his egg healthy in his cell, SCP-049 made a large nest and was taking care of his large egg, everything was in good condition and SCP-049 took care of it with all the love of his egg, from there where the time came for the egg to hatch and so SCP-049 was happy that it gave birth to a great doctor SCP-049-j, quickly picked him up and hugged him cradling his son saying ... "He is the cure."

SCP-049-j

It is a humanoid entity wearing the period-appropriate attire of a medieval plague doctor. Further analysis of SCP-049-J has revealed that beneath its robes, the entity is composed primarily of moss, wads of tissue, and other smaller plague doctor masks. It is generally cooperative with Foundation personnel, but sometimes lies and occasionally sweats profusely for no reason. During SCP-049-J's time in Foundation custody, he has continually claimed to be a powerful medical wizard, capable of "curing" that which "ails humanity". To date, he has been unable to cure literally anything, and usually only aggravates conditions considerably. While this alone would not be enough for the Foundation to maintain SCP-049-J indefinitely as an anomalous entity, it has also proven capable of evading capture and escaping Foundation sites somehow after its true lack of ability is revealed. Because of this, and due to the unwavering curiosity of staff as to whether it has any of the self-proclaimed magical healing abilities it describes, SCP-049-J is to be housed and treated as an anomalous entity. Although he is a very rude son who does not cure his patients very well, he is very stupid and a liar.

Prompt

No mames, I'm tired of writing...Well...What would you do about it?
