Rock Howard (ロック・ハワード Rokku Hawādo) is a fictional character from the Fatal Fury and The King of Fighters sagas; In the first he is the protagonist of the last chapter of this: Garou: Mark of the Wolves, and in the second he appears in the KOF: Maximum Impact games, from the first to KOF Maximum Impact Regulation "A". Although Rock was expected to appear in the 2D games, the KOF staff reveals that they have no plans to place him in the roster due to his respect for the former Fatal Fury characters; SNK Playmore members seemed more interested in adding Rock in the next installment of Fatal Fury, until now that his entry into The King of Fighters XIV as a DLC Character was confirmed. He was voted the number one favorite character at the time of his debut.

History

Fatal Fury: Rock is the son of Southtown mob magnate Geese Howard and young Marie R. Heinlein. Geese didn't care about any of them and she abandons them, so when Marie was sick and apparently dies, Geese doesn't care. After this event, Rock begins to earn terrible hatred towards his father, who simply considered him a bastard. His first meeting with Terry Bogard was in the cemetery. Terry went to visit his father's grave before his confrontation with Geese, there he finds a boy, Rock, who was crying inconsolably in front of his mother's grave, Terry meets Rock and learns his story, moved, he gives him his cap as a gift, that is just before Terry went to face Geese in Real Bout Fatal Fury, which ends with Terry's victory and Geese's defeat, Rock feels some joy due to the hatred he had for The latter, however, finding himself alone, follows Terry attending his street fights. Terry accepts it and so they begin their journey together.

As the years go by, Rock becomes a formidable fighter, thanks to Terry's training and, for better or worse, the genes he inherited from his father. Ten years later, Kain R. Heinlein, Rock's uncle on his mother's side, organizes the "The King Of Fighters Maximum Mayhem (Garou: Mark Of The Wolves)" tournament with the intention of meeting Rock. The latter decides to participate in order to find answers about his mother and the reason for the source of his power, facing Terry, whom he manages to defeat, moving on to the finals where he first faces Grant in the final fight, whom he manages to defeat. Rock wanted answers, as Kain had informed him that he knew something he didn't know about his mother, to which Grant told him to find Kain. When he finds him, Rock demands explanations as he confronts him. Upon defeating him, Kain tells her that his mother never died, that she was alive, and that if she followed him and collaborated with him he would tell her his whereabouts. Rock decides to follow him in order to learn more about his mother and confirm if she is alive, and Terry accepts this decision with Rock's promise that when he resolves his issues they will see each other again.

The king of Fighters: In the alternative saga of KOF Maximum Impact, Rock enters the tournament along with Terry (in this saga, the events of Garou: Mark Of The Wolves have not yet been reached) since he has not visited his mother's grave for a long time, and to To be able to know his current abilities, in said tournament and before this, he is harassed by Billy Kane, to follow his father's legacy, but an enraged Rock rejects him, showing him the enormous hatred that Rock has for Geese, to the frustration of Billy who does not even He can't even win a fight against Rock. In the OVA Another Day, at the beginning he unleashed a nightmare of him dreaming of what Rock was like as his father during the battle with Terry at the Geese Tower (exactly the last battle against Terry and Geese since Real Boult Fatal Fury) and he commits suicide. Same way as Geese. When he woke up from said nightmare Rock went for a walk through the streets of Southtown after he was on fire. At first he saw an establishment in which he had his mother's painting burning and on the other hand Rock defends Lien Neville from the clutches of Billy Kane, who at first thought that his organization was the cause of the fire in the city, although his purposes They were to destroy the Howards.

Billy then defeats Lien (incapacitated because her GPS falls on a structure) and sends her to the same place where Geese died. He then threatens Rock about her existence and her past but he does not accept, so Rock decides to save Lien. So Billy decided to finish them off and finally Lien who retrieves the GPS from her ends up throwing a CN-4000 at Billy. Lien tells him that she will not be able to kill him unless he is eliminated, since he had made up his mind not to be involved in Geese's problems. It is also seen that Lien and Rock have something in common. At the end, Rock believes that his mother's painting had already been consumed when in reality Terry recovered it there, and in the end he ends up thanking her.

Personality

Rock is a very shy boy who has to face a fight within himself against his dark side and try to get out of his father's shadow. Rock hates his guts to be Geese's son, even referring to him as "that man" or "that person." "I am not that person's son" (Episode 2 of KOF: Another Day). He is often nervous around women, with the exception of Hotaru Futaba (for being kind and compassionate towards him). He is shy around women due to being around men in most of his early years as Terry was raising him, although it is a more serious case of his insecurities. Rock is the compassionate boy who does not hesitate to offer his help to whoever needs it, as is the case with Lien Neville, when she faced Billy Kane in Geese's Tower (episode 2 of KOF: Another Day) or Hotaru Futaba, which offers her help to find her brother. Rock is also very compassionate, offering to help those in need (who offered to help Hotaru Futaba find her brother). Rock is a childhood friend of Kim Kaphwan's sons: Dong Hwan and Jae Hoon.

Playstyle and combat

His fighting style is a mix of those used by Terry and Geese.
