As the illegitimate son of Dio Brando, conceived by the stolen body of Jonathan Joestar, Giorno Giovanna, first introduced as a teenager, Giorno is a teenager of average height and a slender but muscular build, much shorter in stature than previous JoJos. He has golden hair of moderate length, tied back in a short braided ponytail, with three distinctive large sized curls arranged in a row above his forehead. His hair was originally black and unkempt, but changed after his Stand awakened. His eyes, especially present in earlier depictions, are pointed at the ends, reminiscent of his father's eyes. Giorno's childhood was filled with misfortune and loneliness due to bullies and abuse from his stepfather. In his early childhood, he was initially cold and uncaring towards anyone, and he considered himself a bastard just because of the way people treated him. Those who knew him easily thought that he would grow up to become a perverted person. This changed when he befriended a wounded gangster he saved. When the man protected Giorno from those who had done him wrong in exchange for his help, he learned that he could trust people. Since then he has become a more confident and caring person. Along with others, Giorno treats people with the respect he believes they deserve based on his observations of their beliefs and actions. He seems to have inherited both Jonathan Joestar's good attitude towards his friends and Dio Brando's ruthlessness towards his enemies. He has a good heart and wants to help anyone who shows kindness to him or others, but he ignores the law. He was a petty thief when he first encountered Koichi and bribed airport security guards before stealing Koichi's luggage. On the other hand, Giorno will not hesitate to punish those who needlessly and deliberately hurt other people, as shown when he engineered Polpo's death to avenge an innocent janitor.
