Character

Kyo Kusanagi (草薙京, Kusanagi Kyō) is one of the main characters in the SNK Playmore installment The King of Fighters; (the eternal hero of KOF according to the developers) debuting in the 1994 tournament as the leader of the Japanese team. He having won the KOF tournaments from '94 to '97, having 4 of them and being the one who has won the most. He is also the rival of Iori Yagami and K ', in addition to being one of the characters of the famous "Band of fighters" He was introduced in the series as a cocky high school student, and heir to his clan, the Kusanagi Clan, one of the three clans that sealed the legendary entity, Orochi 1,800 years ago. His clan has the characteristic of possessing Pyrokinetic powers, a power that few have in the Clan (it is not hereditary). They, along with the Yagami and Yata Clans, guard 1 of the 3 sacred treasures used to seal Orochi long ago. His family treasure is the Sword of Kusanagi (草薙の剣, Kusanagi no Tsurugi), and his family seal is a Sun, depicted in a stylized Halo of Fire. His official nickname is Scion of the Flame. He is voiced by Masahiro Nonaka from all sagas as he also voices his clones until the last episode of the Ash Saga. The actor relates a lot to his character as he is an irresponsible young man until he "matures" in his subsequent appearances until KOF XIII. In KOF XIV Kyo is voiced by Tomoaki Maeno.

History

*Orochi Saga* The Orochi saga takes place in the periods from 1994 to 1997. Kyo surpassed his father's skills in combat at the age of 15 and was appointed as the Heir to the Kusanagi Clan. As soon as he finished his training, Kyo competes in a series of preliminaries held in Japan to determine who would be the representative members of the country's team for The King of Fighters tournament. Kyo surpassed Goro Daimon and Benimaru Nikaido to become the leader of the team, becoming his teammates and eventually friends. He and his team managed to reach the finals where they managed to defeat the Italian team composed of Terry Bogard, Andy Bogard and Joe Higashi. After that they had to fight against Rugal Bernstein: a weapons and drug trafficker as well as a great fighter, who had a collection of statues that were fighters who had fought against him. Goro and Benimaru fell defeated and Rugal brought Kyo to his knees, this is where Kyo strives and manages to defeat Rugal, having won the '94 tournament. Kyo and his team are invited to another new tournament, organized once again by Rugal, who survived the incident. This time, Rugal brainwashed Kyo's lost father, Saisyu, into attacking him. Saisyu comes to his senses after being subdued by the team. To surpass the team's strength, Rugal challenges his opponents using the power of Orochi. At first his power was impressive, but Kyo's team was able to confront him and was defeated. Seeing this fact, Rugal, despite Goenitz's warning not to overuse Orochi's power, tried to raise his power to the maximum, however, Rugal's body was overloaded by the immensity of power he used and he collapsed. his body was mysteriously disintegrated by an Orochi Pillar. Pleased with his son's progress, Saisyu retreats without Kyo's knowledge, hinting that the responsibility of the clan now falls to Kyo.

Story 2

Prior to the events of the year 96, a mysterious man - later revealed to be one of the "Four Heavenly Kings" of Orochi, Goenitz - challenged Kyo to a confrontation. Kyo attended, fueled by his overconfidence in his power, only to be quickly defeated by his challenger and sent to the hospital. Thanks to his injuries, his anger and his defeat, he was driven to invent new and powerful techniques - this is the canon by which Kyo changed his earth spark attack for his string of melee fire attacks (fire spark change to fire blows with Kenpo). He enters that year's tournament to prove his strength to his attacker. During the finals, he meets the tournament sponsor and the young heiress of the Yata clan, Chizuru Kagura. At the end of the tournament, Kyo eliminates Goenitz with the help of Iori and Chizuru. Despite being warned by Chizuru of her clan's destiny with Orochi, Kyo ignores her and withdraws from her. Prior to the events of the year 97, he is pursued by one of his high school classmates, Shingo Yabuki, to teach him how to create flames. Frustrated and annoyed by his persistence, Kyo partially agrees to train him as a method of getting free food but in the end Kyo gives his gloves to Shingo as thanks for his pride. Kyo experiences nightmares about a strange man defeating him in The King of Fighters tournament, but he doesn't care and enters. After it was an ambiguous matter to determine which team he entered during the tournament, the idea of Kyo teaming up with Iori and Chizuru is acceptable (historically). He manages to reach the finals, where he confronts the 3 remaining "Hakkesshu" of Orochi, Yashiro Nanakase (endowed with Geokinesis), Shermie (with the power of Electrokinesis), and Chris (with Purple Fire Pyrokinesis). When they are defeated, Orochi takes possession of Chris's body and attempts to destroy all three clans in one fell swoop. Just as described in the legends of his clans.

Story 3

the trio successfully defeats him. In a last attempt to succeed, Orochi (manifested in Chris's body) causes Iori to enter the Blood Riot state, hoping that he would turn against Kyo and Chizuru. Instead, Iori grabs Orochi by the neck, and Kyo, watching what happened, suddenly hears a voice, which seems to come from the spirit of Yasakani, who asks him to not only defeat Orochi, but to free Iori from the horrible fate to which he is bound by his family, in order to correct his mistake centuries ago of making a pact with Orochi (since by doing this he released a part of the seal which allowed the release of the Hakkeshu). Without hesitation, Kyo decides to fulfill the spirit's wish, attacking Orochi, concentrating all of his power into one last Shiki, allowing Chizuru to reseal Orochi. Exhausted, Kyo passes out and is inadvertently kidnapped by a mysterious organization later revealed to be NESTS.

Story 4

*NESTS Saga* The '99 tournament took place immediately after the events of The King of Fighters '97. Kyo was kidnapped by the NESTS cartel and his DNA was used for the purpose of creating the perfect clone that could harness the powerful Kusanagi flames; whose results were: K' (a clone created by genetically adding his DNA to a person and Imperfect, as he was to use a special glove to manipulate fire) Krizalid (an improved clone created from the aforementioned K', considered the perfect clone) K9999 (a clone who has very limited fire abilities and relies mostly on his bio-mechanical weapons, such as his metamorphic glove) and Nameless (which has K9999 characters in terms of fighting style and weapons, but can create fire, with better control of it, although with red flames whose reason is still unknown, but which turned out to be the most "faithful" clone. in his strength and resemblance to Kyo). Kyo woke up at one point to find himself surrounded by strange devices and needles, determined to seek answers, he leaves captivity and manages to escape from the hidden fortress despite the sedatives. As he escaped, he heard constant references to the NESTS poster. Kyo personally attempts to get answers from his captors, but is forced to retreat when the base around him begins to collapse. During the escape from the collapse, he encountered K', confronted him, and defeated him (since then K' vowed to prove that he is stronger than Kyo, not just because he is a clone of him). He tries to investigate again the following year, where at the end of the tournament he met Zero (Clone) who told him little except confirmation that he was necessary for NESTS's plans. Following the destruction of Southtown (which was destroyed by the Zero Cannon), Iori confronts Kyo.

Story 5

In The King of Fighters 2001, Kyo reunites with his former teammates and Shingo to make a comeback as Team Japan. Now they are part of the Tournament sponsored by NESTS to relive their old days as a team that they were. During the tournament, Kyo realizes that he let himself be carried away by the desire for revenge in such an absurd way that he did not concentrate on the enemy nor use all his power strategically, and that is why he loses to K'Dash (Neo magazine). Geo Freak, October 2006 edition).

Story 6

*Ash Saga* In The King of Fighters 2003, Chizuru appeared before Kyo and Iori, asking them to team up again and investigate recent suspicious activities involving Orochi. Kyo initially protested against allying with Iori, but they relented to form the Three Sacred Treasures Team once again. During the tournament they encountered a disturbing fighter, Kusanagi, a "clone" of Kyo who was created by the power of the Yata no Kagami, and later faced Maki Kagura, Chizuru's older sister who was presumed dead; and finally with a man and herald of Orochi, Mukai, who possessed the ability of Geokinesis. After defeating Mukai, the team investigates the weakened seal of Orochi, but are ambushed by Ash Crimson, who stole the power of Chizuru's Yata no kagami or Mirror of Yata, promising that Iori would be next. Ash escapes and Kyo swears revenge. In The King of Fighters However, the growing presence of Orochi (and, by the presence of Magaki) caused Iori to lose control and enter the Blood Riot, thus beating Kyo and Shingo. Ash appeared and immediately stole the Yasakani no Magatama from Iori's body, and with this apparently Iori's flames. The Rival team (Benimaru, Duo Lon, and Elisabeth) arrived after the incident so Ash commented that now, Kyo would be next. The incident hospitalized Kyo again, but he runs away despite not having fully recovered. While wandering around the city, he encounters two mysterious boys trying to attack him (they were Shroom and Rimelo, two members of Those from the Past. Showing their flames to counterattack, they grant him the "R" invitation before retreating. Soon, After the meeting, Benimaru and Goro find him.

Story 7

Finding it unnecessary to visit the injured Shingo or Chizuru in the hospital, he reunites with his old team members. In The King of Fighters XIII, Kyo and his friends Goro and Benimaru teamed up again to stop Ash. Over the course of the Tournament, Benimaru was in contact with Chizuru to keep her informed of the situation. In the end they faced the leader of Those from the Distant Past, Saiki, Ash's ancestor and a Deity like Orochi. After defeating him, Ash steals Saiki's powers, but he takes control of his body, turning him into Dark Ash, who now possesses Black Fire in addition to Ash's other abilities. But he was defeated by the team, and in the end, Ash purposely gets trapped in the time portal so that Saiki would disappear through the time paradox along with him. After Ash's disappearance, Iori challenges Kyo to a fight again. After being surprised to see Iori with his flames once again, Kyo accepts and the two begin a fight with unknown results. Currently, only Kyo, and others like Iori, Elisabeth, Shen, and Duolon, who were somehow closer to Ash, remember him.

Personality

Kyo is the extremely confident protagonist, although well-intentioned, he is more interested in living life rather than taking on important responsibilities. He quickly becomes bored with matters that do not interest him and often carries out his actions with a negligent attitude. Despite his disinterested appearance and rude behavior, he truly appreciates his family and friends, enjoying their presence, and particularly likes being affectionate with his girlfriend, Yuki. His extreme disinterest in studies has earned him the inability to graduate from school. Although he is self-confident regarding his poetic ability, most of his poems are not considered good in the ears of those listening to him. Kyo takes the responsibilities of the Clan in a much more personal way, disregarding ancient legends and predestined events as any reason for his actions. His strong sense of justice and his eagerness to fight against stronger rivals are what he believes will lead him to fulfill his destiny. His rivalry with Iori is a shared feeling of hatred, and was fueled in part by the history of his clan. When they join forces, it is always reluctantly and only if it is the last resort to resolve a common conflict.

fighting style

Kyo fights using the Kusanagi Style of ancient martial arts, a Japanese style based on bare-hand combat taught only to those belonging to the Kusanagi Clan. Like most modern day clansmen, these are labeled Method/Style with numbers. 108 Shiki: Yami Barai (Method 108: Darkness Sweeper), etc., with "Inverted Methods" being stronger versions of other attacks, such as Kyo's signature move, Ura 108 Shiki: Orochinagi (Inverted Method 108: Great Wave of the snake). Kyo also knows Kenpo and uses it in most of his normal attacks. Kyo's moveset emphasizes Kenpo from KOF '96 onwards, discarding his 108 Shiki: Yami Barai and 101 Shiki: Oboroguruma (Method 101: Misty Wheel), giving way to a series of completely new techniques that are a series of strikes. in chain (the 114 Shiki: Aragami / Method 114: Wild Bite and 115 Shiki: Dokugami / Method 115: Poisonous Bite) with several different follow-ups, and therefore a variable amount of kicks and elbow attacks are added making it clear that They are also types of notable moves in Kenpo. The names of Kyo's new moves are anything but vague and simple names (e.g. 402 Shiki: Batsu Yomi / Method 402: Punishment Recital and 125 Shiki: Nanase / Method 125: Rapid Seven), possibly due to Kyo's tastes in poetry.

Fighting style 2

Therefore, Kyo is a combo strong character taking a while to master his KOF '96 moveset and the following games he explodes to ridiculous levels. Mastering it however allowed players to more easily adapt to using other characters that had more diverse movesets. Kyo gave way to archetypes with moves that not only had multiple sequences, but each follow-up had its own unique characteristics. This is also powerful in confusion if the pressure is well established. Historically, this was possibly due to Goenitz's defeat of him, that Kyo reformed his style to a more offensive approach. In the original games (especially in KOF '95), Kyo followed the "Ryu and Ken" archetype with Iori, since Kyo's moves differ slightly from game to game in the same way as Iori, mainly his Despair Moves. The changes in KOF '96 and onwards made them different from each other. Alternate versions of Kyo retain their old movesets from the older games for the sake of nostalgia, although each alternate version would be noticeably different from game to game. In KOF 2003, Kyo, Iori, and Chizuru's BOMs are called San Shingi (Three Divine Arts), after their clans, destinies, and treasures. Kyo is the San Shingi no Ichi (Three Divine Arts No. 1), however, it is his Saishuu Kessen Ougi: Mu Shiki (最終決戦奥義‧無式 Secret Final Showdown Technique: No Method), as opposed to the versions of Iori and Chizuru being original attacks.

Fighting style 3

In The King of Fighters XII and XIII, his default self changes back to his old moveset from KOF '94/'95. The Neo Max of him in His NESTS-Style version uses his traditional "Kenpo chain punches" moveset, and is given a Neo Max named Saishuu Kessen Hiougi: Totsuka (Hidden Secret Final Showdown Technique: Ten Fists), a nod to the famous Totsuka-no -Tsurugi (Ten Sword of Fists). Another possible nod is his 182 Shiki/182 Method, a powerful flaming slam attack, which may be the final blow dealt by Kyo to Orochi in the finale of the Orochi saga (although in some other games, the 182 has a different animation).

Powers

Pyrokinesis: Due to Kusanagi heritage, Kyo has control over fire. He can create fire from the air, create fireballs, deliver flaming blows, create pillars of fire, and set his own body on fire as defense. Despite controlling it, this ability does not make it immune to other types of flames. Kyo cannot control flames other than those he has created. However, the fire it controls is not 100% ordinary fire, since although it does not have the ability to 'petrify' like Iori's cursed flame (due to the pact with Orochi), it has a certain spiritual range, therefore, it has much more power if used well.

Skills

Motorcycling - Kyo likes to ride his motorcycle through the streets of Japan. Poetry - Kyo likes to write poetry as a hobby. Hockey - Despite representing the element of fire, Kyo likes to play ice hockey. Musical Ability - Kyo is also a talented guitarist.

Prompt
