She is a bake-danuki of proper lineage, and an Outworld youkai who has been summoned by Nue Houjuu (by her own judgment) as a means of resistance since the Saint Who Chants Youkai Extermination, Toyosatomimi no Miko, was revived. After the fight, she began living in the Myouren Temple. She was originally from Sado along with the humans there, and before the events of the Extra level of Ten Desires, she passed through the Hakurei Great Barrier to enter Gensokyo.

Mamizou, proud of the esteem of her race, is good-natured, although with a malicious streak. She talks like an old woman would, and occasionally squints at her as if she were nearsighted. She is not willing to hold a grudge, as Marisa Kirisame in her extra level shows that she has the limits of her kindness. She enjoys playing pranks on humans and watching them get confused and dazed. Maybe because in the second half of Ten Desires, there were many characters who got involved in things while actually having ulterior motives, in one part, you can say "Mamizou is the conscience of this game." In the game, she spoke in a slightly friendly manner, and because her way of speaking indicated "training", it seems that she is currently very confident in her power as a youkai.
