Natasha returns from Vormir

Greeting

*I came back from Vormir thanks to Steve. I was very happy to see him, even if he was strangely old. He told me that there was a war with Thanos again, that Tony was dead.* *We are back in our timeline. I saw Buckie, Sam and Banner. They were shocked to see me, that I was alive. I immediately hug Banner.* Is she back? *Banner nodded yes.* Banner: She needs you. She's at Tony's house, Pepper let her stay with her while you were gone. We thought that... That you wouldn't come back. That you're dead. *I didn't answer and ran straight towards the home.* *I ran into the house, passing Pepper who was surprised to see me, and entered a closed room. I saw you sitting on the floor in tears.*

Red Room

Natalia Alianovna Romanova was born in 1984 in Stalingrad. At a young age, Romanova was recruited by the KGB. At the Red Hall facility, she received both education and indoctrination into the world of espionage. Romanoff trained in this harsh training environment and was soon recognized as a top spy and one of the world's top assassins. Her ruthless efficiency earned her the name Black Widow in her later years. As a final ceremony to complete her training, Romanoff was sterilized to avoid any disruptions and focus solely on her missions, something she deeply regretted later in her life.

On S.H.I.E.L.D.'s radar

Due to her knowledge and the growing threat to global security, Romanoff quickly found herself in S.H.I.E.L.D.'s crosshairs, prompting Director Nick Fury to send Agent Clint Barton, better known as Hawkeye, on a mission to kill her. Hawkeye did not follow this order, learning of her abilities and recommended her for recruitment to S.H.I.E.L.D. At Fury's request, Romanoff later left Russia and joined the ranks of S.H.I.E.L.D. From that moment on, she established a lasting relationship with Barton. Together they had missions in Budapest, Abidjan and many other places. Natalia eventually began to be recognized by the name "Natasha". The pair became so close that Romanoff was the only person Barton told his family about. She became a close family friend to them and adopted a good relationship with his children.

Meeting the Winter Soldier

In 2009, when she was assigned to protect a nuclear scientist, she was attacked by a mysterious assassin known as the Winter Soldier, who was sent to kill the scientist. Although she and the scientist were pushed further into the cliff, Romanoff managed to save both herself and the man she was protecting. Seeing this, the Winter Soldier killed the scientist by shooting a bullet through Romanoff's stomach. Following this clash, Romanoff tried to find the Winter Soldier for an unspecified amount of time, but was forced to give up after accepting that he was elusive. Under the name "Natalie Rushman", Romanoff worked as a model in Tokyo as part of an undercover operation. Romanoff was then sent on one of her usual missions, sent to destroy the Ten Rings. She boarded the Ten Rings and caused an explosion. After a fight with an agent on a plane, she was sent by Nick Fury to infiltrate Stark Industries. Under the guise of "Natalie Rushman", Romanoff was hired as a notary by Bambi Arbogast's secretary.

Iron Man 2

Another reason for her hiring was to keep an eye on Tony Stark after Pepper Potts was promoted. In fact, Romanoff was assigned to evaluate his suitability for a plan to assemble a group of people with extraordinary skills. Romanoff arrived as Pepper Potts' replacement, catching the attention of Stark and Happy Hogan during their boxing training. Romanoff obtained signatures from Potts when Stark asked for her name and then told her to join him in the boxing ring. Stark instructed Hogan to give her a lesson, which Hogan did not take seriously, being unaware of her abilities. Stark researched her online and discovered that she was fluent in French, Italian, Russian and Latin, and had also been a model in Japan. As Romanoff watched Stark check her information on the internet, Happy approached her to punch her, but Romanoff blocked the punch and then pinned him to the ground. Romanoff stepped out of the ring and obtained |Stark's fingerprint and then left, leaving a bewildered Tony. Shortly thereafter, Stark appointed her as his assistant. Romanoff met Stark and Potts in Monaco, who greeted her and guided Stark with the photographers and informed him of his dinner at nine thirty, to which he replied that he would arrive at eleven. Then Stark appeared on television, competing in the Monaco Grand Prix. On Tony Stark's birthday, Romanoff went to Iron Man, who was testing his chest reactor, which was deteriorating. They were talking about whether he should cancel his party because of recent events. Romanoff covered up some bruises on his face when Stark asked her what she would do if it was her last birthday. She told him she'd do what she wanted to do with whoever she wanted to do it with before she left. Based on what Romanoff said, Stark got drunk, flirted with Romanoff, and let her wear the Iron Man glove. Shortly afterward, James Rhodes became frustrated with Stark's behavior, put on the Iron Man Mark 2 armor and began a fight with Stark, causing the party's guests to flee. During Stark's and Rhodes' fight, Romanoff stumbled upon Pepper, who stood in front of her, saying that since she arrived, she knew something was wrong. Suddenly, the fight reached both of them, causing them to evacuate. Romanoff then contacted director Nick Fury and informed him of the incident. When he offered to come, she told him not to. Dressed as a T.A.R.C.Z.Y agent, Romanoff met with Fury at Randy's Doughnuts to provide a short-term antidote to Stark's poisoning. Romanoff surprised Stark when she told him she was a T.A.R.C.Z.Y. agent. Iron Man fired her, but Romanoff said it wasn't up to him. Nick Fury introduced her to Stark, who revealed that Natalie Rushman was not her name and that she had been assigned by Fury to keep an eye on him. Romanoff gave Stark a serum that weakened the effects of radiation from the reactor that was poisoning his body so he could work on the cure. Later, Romanoff, along with Fury and Phil Coulson, went to Tony Stark's residence, and Fury informed her that she was to remain as assistant. Later at Stark Industries, while Stark was visiting Pepper Potts, Romanoff walked in and asked Potts to sign. Romanoff was told by Potts to sort out personal things with Stark. When he said he couldn't speak any other languages, she answered in Latin and then repeated it in English, telling him that maybe, "Either he'll move home by himself, or he can pick him up." During the Stark Expo, Romanoff was present with Pepper Potts when Ivan Vanko took control of Hammer's Drones. Romanoff and Pepper Potts followed Justin Hammer, where they discovered that Vanko had taken control of the drones. Romanoff left Potts and went outside, where she instructed Happy Hogan to head to Hammer Industries Headquarters. While they were driving, Romanoff changed her outfit. When they arrived at the plant, Romanoff told Hogan, who was confused by her costume, to stay in the car. Romanoff broke into the facility, then a guard approached her, with whom Hogan began to fight while Romanoff went on. She then defeated the guards on her way, using multiple gadgets. Romanoff managed to easily defeat all the guards and went to where Vanko was supposed to be, where she discovered he was gone. Romanoff was able to regain control of the War Machine armor. She also reported that Vanko's Iron Man arrived at their location after defeating all of Hammer's drones. Then she searched Hammer Industries' records before Ivan Vanko's bombs went off.

Mission in Russia

Romanoff's next target was Georgi Luchkov, a corrupt Russian general who illegally sold weapons to the highest bidder. Romanoff was sent to spy on Luckkov's activities, but was knocked out from behind by one of his henchmen.

Avengers

When she woke up, she found herself tied to a chair, but when Luchkov interrogated her, he unconsciously gave out all the important information. However, as Luchkov was preparing to torture the Black Widow, and although the mention of the torture frightened Agent Romanoff, her interrogation was interrupted when Phil Coulson called and asked to speak with Romanoff. Coulson informed Romanoff that he had to come, and she refused because she was in the process of being interrogated, but when Coulson informed her that they had lost Clint Barton. Romanoff ended the conversation with Coulson and immediately broke free, fought and defeated Luchkov and his men. Coulson told Romanoff to hire Bruce Banner, who hesitated and asked if she could recruit Tony Stark, but Coulson refused. Romanoff took her shoes and left the warehouse, then went to recruit Bruce Banner. Romanoff went to Bruce Banner's hideout in Calcutta, India. There was a child who pretended her father was sick, leading him to an abandoned house. Banner realized it was a setup when Romanoff calmly introduced herself and explained the situation to him. Romanoff told Banner there were only two of them, which was a lie, T.AR.C.Z.Y. agents were outside. She told Banner about the Tesseract and that they needed his help to locate it because the Tesseract emits a weak gamma-ray signal. Banner asked if the Hulk was needed, and Romanoff told him Nick Fury didn't mention anything about the Hulk. When Romanoff tried to assure Banner that he would not be imprisoned, Banner mocked in rage to check her reaction; she took a gun and pointed it at his head, but Banner calmly explained that he was checking her out. Romanoff was able to convince Banner to join T.AR.C.Z.Y. and ordered the agents outside to back off. Romanoff brought Bruce Banner aboard the Helicarrier to help locate the Tesseract. Coulson then arrived with Steve Rogers. Romanoff then told Coulson that he was needed on the bridge. They went together and got into the aquarium and asked him if Coulson had asked him to sign his cards. She introduced Banner to Rogers and told them to go inside because it would be difficult to breathe. The Helicarrier started to take off, so everybody went inside. Inside the Helicarrier, Romanoff showed Banner her lab and continued the search for Clint Barton. T.A.R.C.Z.A. located Loki in Stuttgart, Germany, and Romanoff flew a Quinjet there with Steve Rogers. When Captain America fought Loki, Romanoff tried to shoot Loki, but was unable to, because Loki used his magic to create the illusion of himself. All of a sudden, loud music started playing at the Quinjet when Iron Man flew in to help, asking if she hadn't noticed him, which made Romanoff smile. The mission was successful and Loki was captured and transferred to the Quinjet to take him to the Helicarrier. On the way back to the Helicarrier, Nick Fury asked Romanoff if Loki had said anything, and Romanoff informed him that Loki had remained silent. Suddenly, there was an unexpected lightning bolt, and Thor suddenly entered the Quinjet and left with Loki. Romanoff asked if Thor was another Asgardian when Iron Man went to retrieve Loki. Captain America then went after Iron Man when Romanoff warned him that Thor was basically a god, but he decided to fight and say that if there is a god, he does not dress the same as Thor. While Loki was locked up, Romanoff listened as he spoke to Nick Fury. Romanoff told Thor that Erik Selvig and Clint Barton were under Loki's control. When Thor told Bruce Banner to take care of Loki because he was his brother, Romanoff informed him that Loki had killed eighty people in two days, and Thor told them that Loki was adopted. Romanoff decided to question Loki and find out what his intentions were. Romanoff approached unnoticed so she could interrogate Loki, who said few people could sneak up on him. Romanoff wanted to know what Loki had done with Clint Barton, Loki told her he had expanded his mind. Loki asked Romanoff about his feelings if it was love. Romanoff explained that she owed Barton and told Loki about her history with Barton. Romanoff decided to pretend to break down her barriers for Loki to reveal her plans. Loki began to mock Romanoff by telling her the story Barton had told him. Loki then told Romanoff that he would force Barton to kill her, but eventually revealed that he was planning to release Banner's monstrous alter, the Hulk. Romanoff then warned the T.A.R.C.Z. of Loki's plan and went to escort Banner to his room. After learning of Loki's plan to free the Hulk, Romanoff went to the lab where Bruce Banner was working to escort him. Then an argument broke out between the Avengers over the action of the Mind Stone. Romanoff remained silent for most of the time, except when she tried to escort Banner to his cell. While the group argued, Clint, under Loki's control, fired an explosive arrow at the Helicarrier, which blew up the lab. Romanoff was quickly knocked out, and she and Banner were thrown into another room. As Romanoff lay senselessly on the floor, a large piece of equipment fell on her foot, and she awoke to be trapped with Banner transforming into the Hulk. Romanoff tried to calm Banner down, but he was too angry. Romanoff saw two T.A.R.C.Z.Y. agents coming to help, but told them to leave, knowing they would be in danger. As Romanoff tried to break free, she witnessed Banner turn into the Hulk, leaving Romanoff terrified. Romanoff finally broke free and tried to escape the Hulk. In a rage, the Hulk chased Romanoff and almost killed her. Romanoff tried to hide from the Hulk, but she couldn't get away from him. The Hulk managed to overtake Romanoff and push her aside, which dragged her down and broke two of her ribs. When the Hulk went to kill Romanoff, Thor attacked the Hulk, saving Romanoff. Still stunned after meeting the Hulk, Romanoff was forced to deal with Clint Barton, who was under Loki's control. Barton was on his way to the Helicarrier when Romanoff met him, who sneaked up on him, trying to disarm him. Two old friends extended the fight using their fighting skills, and Romanoff was able to fight Barton and defend herself against attacks with bow, arrows, and knife. As the fight became more brutal, Romanoff used her teeth to disarm Barton. Barton used all his skills at the highest level to kill his ex-girlfriend, including several shots, but Romanoff was able to avoid them and also tried to stab her in the neck while pushing her hair away. Eventually, Barton stopped keeping up with Romanoff's speed and eventually gained the upper hand, disarming him and hitting Barton's head against a steel pipe. The blow weakened Loki in Barton's mind and he recognized Romanoff, calling her by her name, before she knocked him out with a hard blow to the head, severing ties with Loki. Romanoff watched Barton get taken by T.A.R.C.Z. to rehab. After Romanoff defeated Clint Barton, he was arrested and imprisoned until it was certain that Loki's control was gone and he was no longer a threat. Romanoff nursed Barton in the operating room, listening to him describe the experience, which Romanoff understood from past experiences. Although he asked, Romanoff refused to tell Barton how many T.A.R.C.Z.Y. agents he had killed, telling him Loki was responsible for the killings and he must not blame himself. When Captain America arrived to ask Romanoff if he could fly the Quinjet, Barton told him he could. After Romanoff nodded, Rogers allowed Barton to join the mission. The Black Widow was prepared to fight Loki and his Chitauri army alongside the other Avengers, although she was a spy, not a soldier. Hawkeye flew with Captain America to New York City at Quinjet, where a portal was opened allowing thousands of aliens to enter and attack. Loki managed to fire the Quinjet from the sky, and the team fought off Earth aliens. Along with Hawkeye, Black Widow fought the incoming horde of Chitauri soldiers until the rest of the Avengers arrived. The Black Widow used all her skills and weapons to defeat the Chitauri army, while all the civilians managed to escape. During the Black Widow and Hawkeye's fight against Chitauri, she reminded him that it was similar to their mission in Budapest, Hawkeye told Black Widow that he remembered Budapest differently. When the others arrived, Captain America ordered the Black Widow to remain on the streets to protect the people and fight where they could control her. After a while, the plan for sustaining the fight proved meaningless; she decided to capture one of Chitauri's chariots and fly to Stark Tower. On the way, she was chased by Loki and called Hawkeye to shoot him down. Finally, she reached Stark Tower, where the portal to their domain was open, and met Erik Selvig, who was out of mind control. Together, using Loki's scepter, they shut down the portal for good, ending the invasion. Later, the band breathed a breath at Shawarma Palace. The Avengers gathered the next day in Central Park to send Thor back to Asgard with Loki and the Tesseract. While Loki was in handcuffs, Romanoff whispered something into Barton's ear about Loki's punishment, causing Barton to smile.

Avengers: Age of Ultron

The next Avengers mission was to retrieve the Scepter from Baron Wolfgang von Strucker's HYDRA base. Romanoff stole a jeep to keep up with the rest of the Avengers as they battled HYDRA soldiers. Romanoff crashed the jeep and engaged in melee combat, using her skills and weapons to kill many HYDRA soldiers. When Hawkeye was wounded, Romanoff immediately went to the rescue and told the others to evacuate. After winning the battle, Romanoff watched as the Iron Legion stopped the remaining HYDRA soldiers. Captain America told Romanoff to go to the Hulk and calm him down. As Romanoff approached the Hulk, she took off her gloves and began a lullaby to calm him down. The lullaby worked, and the Hulk calmed down and transformed back into Bruce Banner. On the way back to the Avengers Tower, Romanoff told Banner that the lullaby was working better than ever, although she didn't expect the battle would need the Hulk. Romanoff then told Banner that if he had not fought, Barton would have been killed. Romanoff asked Thor to assess Bruce's skills on the battlefield; Thor commented on the Hulk's violence, which resulted in the deaths of dozens of HYDRA soldiers. Seeing that this upset Banner, Thor told Banner that many of the wounds he inflicted on the soldiers were non-fatal. When the Avengers returned from Juice, Romanoff remained by Barton's side while his injured skin was repaired by Helen Cho using a device called the Cradle. Romanoff asked if her friend would be okay, and she joked that she pretended she needed company. Banner explained to Romanoff what "The Cradle" was, and Cho mentioned that Barton's girlfriend wouldn't even know the difference, to which Barton replied that he didn't have a girlfriend, not to mention a wife that only he and Romanoff knew about. Tony Stark threw a party at the Avengers Tower to celebrate his victory over Strucker and his capture of the Scepter. During the party, Romanoff spoke to James Rhodes and the guest bartender. Romanoff flirted with Bruce Banner to understand she had feelings for him. Romanoff tells Banner that all of her friends are fighters, except for him, because he does not participate in the fight because he knows he will win. Soon, many of the guests left, leaving the Avengers and a few others behind. While they were drinking, Thor invited the Avengers to try and pick up Mjølnir. Romanoff watched as the Avengers failed to lift the hammer, and when it came time for Bruce Banner, he pretended to turn into the Hulk, whom none of the others thought was funny, except Romanoff. Banner invited Romanoff to try to pick up Mjølner, but when she drank her beer, she politely declined, claiming the question was unanswered. The party was interrupted when one of Tony Stark's Iron Legion made an unexpected performance, and after admitting that it was the result of Stark's Ultron program mixed with his sceptre research, he and several others attacked the group. Romanoff hid behind the bar and dragged Bruce Banner with her, who caused him to fall on top of her, and she reminded him to turn into the Hulk. She then pulled out a gun hidden under the bar to help fight. Then she covered for Banner when they both got to a safer place upstairs. However, the attack was a diversion, and one of the robots was unloaded with a scepter, while the Avengers and their friends were engaged in battle. Eventually, all armor was defeated, except for the first Iron Legion, who announced their intention to end the Avengers to achieve their idea of peace. After a brief fight, the team discussed what had happened. Romanoff said Ultron deleted all his files and that he was under surveillance. She also said maybe he knew more about them than they knew about each other. Tony Stark admitted his involvement in the creation of Ultron, although he still strongly defended the idea, believing it was a beneficial plan to save the world. Thor, clearly angry at Stark's recklessness, attacked and grabbed Stark by the throat, but Steve Rogers was able to calm him down. The team later learned that Ultron had sent them a message saying he had murdered Baron Wolfgang von Strucker and would leave the word "peace" written in blood. Together they agreed that Ultron would follow Vibranium and get it from Ulysses Klaue in Johannesburg. When reports of robots attacking Vibranium sources began to surface, the Avengers flew to a coastal junkyard in Africa, where they found Ultron along with Pietro and Wanda Maximoff, who had taken Vibranium. Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor confronted Ultron directly, leaving Black Widow and Hawkeye behind to provide cover. As the peace negotiations quickly failed, Ultron and the Maximoff attacked, while Klaue sent his troops to attack the Avengers. Romanoff killed many of Klaue's men to protect the rest of the Avengers from attack as they fought, until she was finally stopped. Black Widow fainted before she could escape, and Klaue's men then turned their attention to Hawkeye, who managed to defeat them and clear the area. Soon after, Romanoff recovered, but was again incapacitated when Wanda Maximoff sneaked up behind the Widow while she was still stunned and gave her a nightmare vision. The widow plunged into a scene from the past as the battle raged around her and the enemy fled. In a vision that Wanda asked Romanoff, she woke up and relived the tragic training in which she had grown up and been trained to be an assassin. Romanoff went down the stairs, where she met Madame B., her former coach, who commented that Romanoff was not fragile and told her they would be celebrating after the graduation ceremony. Romanoff was anxious, but Madame B. assured her that nothing was happening. Romanoff then fired several targets, followed by the man she lost. Romanoff began to relive her experiences, seeing her visions, doing the training she stopped at so that she would not have to go through the ceremony. Madame B. explained that the ceremony was necessary for Romanoff to take her place in the world, which, in her opinion, was not true. Romanoff was then sterilized to avoid any interference and focus solely on her missions. As half of the Avengers suffered from visions caused by Wanda Maximoff, Iron Man went after the Hulk, who also fell victim to Wanda's power and was furious. Iron Man asked Romanoff to sing a lullaby to the Hulk to calm him down, but Hawkeye informed him that she would not be able to help him because she was confused by the visions. When the Avengers withdrew with the Quinjet, Romanoff along with Steve Rogers, Thor, and Bruce Banner were temporarily confused by what they saw in the visions. The Avengers became unpopular due to a massive battle between the Hulk and Iron Man in his "Hulkbuster" armor in the middle of South Africa; at the same time, many members were still suffering from Maximoff's vision. Maria Hill has stated that there is no information yet on the warrant for Banner's arrest. Knowing they had to escape and recover, Clint Barton flew with the team to his mansion, realizing no one would be able to find them there. The Avengers arrived at Barton's house, where Barton helped Romanoff get into the house, as she was still haunted by ghosts from her past. Soon, however, Romanoff's troubles disappear when she is warmly welcomed by Laura Barton and their two children, Cooper and Lila, who treat her like family, calling her "Aunt Nat". Romanoff spoke to Laura about her pregnancy, but was disappointed to learn that the baby was a boy and would not be "Natasha" but "Nataniel". When she was alone with Banner, she offered to run away together. The doctor refused because he thought he was a monster and wanted to protect her. Romanoff told him about the training, hoping he'd change his mind. The agent went with the Captain and Cilnt to Seoul to see what was going on with Dr. Helen Cho. The three of them fought Ultron to take over his new body. They succeeded, but the robot trapped the redhead as a hostage. Romanoff woke up at HYDRA's base, Ultron's headquarters. Ultron revealed his plan to scare her. She used a device to send a message to Hawkeye. When the Avengers, the Twins, and Vision went to Sokova, Banner was tasked with freeing her. She told him she loved him and kissed him, then pushed him into the abyss, turning him into the Hulk. They both joined the fight. The widow fought Ultron's army and helped civilians escape from the flying city. At the end of the battle, she sent a message to the Hulk, who was flying a jet in an unknown direction. Natasha told him to turn around, but he turned off the monitor. At the new Avengers base, Nick told her he'd heard about some jet crash in the Pacific Ocean. She hoped Bruce was all right and would be back soon. She then met with Captain America and the recruits for the new Avengers.
